@@redjack2629 That's a horrible way to look at things. That's the BEST part of this all. story behind this song: "The Veldt" was inspired by the 1950 short sci fi story of the same name by Ray Bradbury. While streaming, Deadmau5 gets a random message from a 17 year old Chris James. The message included vocals and lyrics to an unreleased song. Deadmau5 reacted to the message on stream and was so impressed by James' vocals he decided to sign James and confirmed that the official release of the song would include James' vocals. Deadmau5 was particularly impressed with the lyrical references to the Ray Bradbury story. The song's production was captured on a live streaming session via Deadmau5's official website. The song was eventually released and has become one Deadmau5's most popular songs.

In the short story "veldt" by ray Bradbury, the parents discuss about a specific room in the house (the nursery) a holographic room that projects images of the imagination (like the holodeck from startreck), when the childrens parents discuss the issues of the room being a problem to their behavior. Threatening to shut the nursery off permentaly, the kids throw a fit. After their tantrum, the children ask their dad to go back into the room. Moments later they scream for their parents, the parents come rushing in, with the kids nowhere to be found, they look to the door, the kids shut and lock the parents in the nursery, surrounded by lions the mother and father get mauled, (the white glasses) "The world that the children made" comes from the African setting the children imagined for the room to generate.
This is one of the few songs that makes me cry. I first heard it when I was 25 and living on my own in Florida (moved from Virginia) to be a Flight instructor at a small airport. I have a pair of HDJ-2000s (the same ones Joel uses) and its got a mono-stereo switch on it, its literally like listening to two different versions of the song. The verb gets isolated for the stereo and all you can here on the mono is the bass, vocals, some warm chords and the drums. Its amazing.

ikr ... interesting story btw
Few people realise the musical intuition this masterpiece requires. These coords are astounding; as is deadmou5
i encourage all of you to stop listening right now and go read the short story “The Veldt”, then watch the livestream clip of vocals being discovered, then come back and appreciate this song for what it truly is.
LIMBO!!
lol what is limbo?! I keep seeing it in the comments
Isabella Lipuma Haha it’s this amazing Indie game with gorgeous art style and this is 100% copying Limbo but with colorful backgrounds. Limbo is a black and white game. But google image “Limbo game” and you’ll see what I mean lol. Limbo came out in 2010. If you like playing games I highly recommend it, it’s such an awesome and beautiful game
Insanity On A Bun I thought the world of limbo xd
TrynnaHitTenMill I remember playing limbo and the ending shook me
FBI Slave i dont know what limbo is. I know its a world between death and life.
Imagine if Joel didn’t click on the twitter link. This song wouldn’t be a thing!
This is so good, somebody must've shown him, if he didn't find it himself
This song would still have been a thing. It's just that the vocals would be wildly different.
It would have still been a thing just different.
the video where joel finds vocals for this is priceless you guys need to check it out
This music is always nostalgia. Good memories.

Sounded way better live. Glad I got to experience this . The whole set was 🔥🔥
2:22 idk but this was my favorite part 😂 when the smile spreads across his face then he shoves her down the slope
Love the track. Love the story
Incredible how this song drive me to tears. Especially knowing the backing story
Anyone here appreciating the choice of lyrics and animation to fit this magical beat and absolutely legendary short story?
Animation is based off a game called limbo
The feeling this song gives is incredible. How do people make such amazing melodies?
By discovering them randomly from a stream. That's how Chris was discovered, by sending a sample to Deadmau5...live on a stream
@@MrWhangdoodles 1. Chris' part is not the melody....? 2. Chris was already a well known musician before this.
Great song, excellent video. My kids each make me play it for them at bedtime. Love it
Also here from Twitter. I love seeing how projects come together.
It’s amazing how people and computer generated sound can make all of this sound so damn good.
happy technology :)
This song reminds of when my son was growing up. He’s all grown up now, in his career. I really miss those days.
Did your son tried to kill you? Do you know the story this song is based on?
@@conatcha I know. He read the book as a child. That’s why I remember it. No, he never tried to kill me.
Epic. I just loved the reaction to hearing the vocals for the first time. Amazing.
Beautiful song.
The style is like limbo... Awesome!
Little too much like Limbo eh?
spot on!! i was looking for this comment. i even looked if it was the same animators but nope.
The story behind how this tune got made is infinitely more beautiful than this track could ever be.
Time does fly 🙏 memories last
this song is just a legend
So crazy how Chris James got vocals on this. Twitter is fuckin powerful.
Then you could do better than dropping f bombs for emphasis.
Just heard this on the radio 3/1/22. It's a Tuesday night.
Yea Chris James! 🎉
The lyrics so perfectly go with the title of this song
I have a pair of HDJ-2000s (the same ones Joel uses) and its got a mono-stereo switch on it, its literally like listening to two different versions of the song. The verb gets isolated for the stereo and all you can here on the mono is the bass, vocals, some warm chords and the drums. Its amazing.
+MrSpencerMcIntosh Cool story bro.
that sounds sweet
Wait, there is bass in this song?
+Division Yes. Bass frequncies. Not midrange 'basses'
+Division if you throw your beats in the trash and buy some proper equipment, yes this song has bass
It's incredible to know the story behind the vocals on this track!! That's why you should always at least try sending your work to your idols and you might get included like this!
Happy 10 years for the album while 1
Ya casi 11 años de este himno, como desearía volver a esa época, cuando era feliz y no lo sabia..
Can't help but get a haunting feeling with this tune after learning what the lyrics mean.
It's been 15 years and it's still a very good song. I can't stop listening to it. 2024
I'm so in love with the way we are, here ❤🌟💃🌟❤
Anyone here enjoying this jan 2025
Yeah, 2022 and I’m still in love with this song. Definitely a classic.
Favorite Deadnau5 song. With a lot of meaning for me.
I haven’t been to an EDM concert in ages, until this song came out. I went to see Deadmau5 (hadn’t seen him since 2010 or so) and luckily he played this song in South Padre Island TX. It was such a memorable experience. Such a profound yet melancholic reality of our younger generations.
I LOVE this song. Me and my family always listened to it in the car. I was in LOVE with this song literally. I sang it all the time, i knew it by HEART, i dreamed about this song, me with this beautiful masterpiece on the background. LOVE IT! I adore DeadMou5. This song has also a BEAUTIFUL message (e.g. the world that the children made, in love with the way we are)
I wish this song will have the fame it deserves.
you know this song is based on a short story called "the veldt" by Ray Bradbury which is all about kids who use the "world that the children made" in order to murder their parents.
right?
@@skylar5790 I'm super confused why people find that a good story, like this kids baited their parents to get eaten by lions... what's so nice about that?-
I’m so glad that I listened to this so many years ago, this is made of vibes from the surface to core, this song is just perfect in every good way
I am here tp that's real
11 years ago today I stumbled again upon this lovely beat
Wow! This is awesome! Right into the Playlist it goes
Exactly how many people know this is about a short story by Ray Bradbury?
Not very many
I remember reading this for English class back in Grade 9. Part of the reason I love this song so much.
That's how I got here
Me
FR3ZBY that’s how I found the song😂
5 years ago, and still being my favorite song
Am I the only one who came here just to see if he took out the stuttering?
Senor Studly no lmao
Senor Studly same bro
I came here to see if he actually put the vocals in
Me to
