It was a tough bite out there! This was my best day out of a couple trips to this spot, the previous one I had a few muskie follows but ended up getting skunked.
Any day catching is a good day, regardless of the size of fish caught IMO. Even if you don't catch anything, being on the water and in nature is good for the soul.
Braving the chill in search of some river beasts...why not??? You caught a few, finished with a nice pike up by the dam and probably learned something. Success. Thanks for taking us along Matt. We'll see you next time. Blessings
Thanks Matt, I really enjoyed this river trek that resulted in some nice pike! Looking very much forward to those river monsters later in the fall! Take care and be safe!
Thanks for another episode, Matt. Looking forward to your ice fishing drops. My daughter is at UND, and there's snow on the ground. I figure safe ice isn't too far off. I know it's difficult to put out weekly episodes when you're going through other issues, so thank you! Life ain't fair, I've been in your shoes. My only comment is, keep doing what's right, good things will come.
Great video as usual! I really like the Throwback baits too. I've picked up, well probably more than I should ha! The cheat code is a great little bait and the smallies here in Washington just hammer it.
Matt, Ty for a great Saturday morning watching. I get excited when I see your on thanks. Sounded like you got the lure as a perk from a company , They gave it to the right person.
I've been living in Vegas Nevada for 30 years now, and I'm getting ready to move back home to Illinois... Northern Illinois right near the Wisconsin border.. I'm so freaking stoked.. Grew up fishing in Illinois,Wisconsin, and Tennessee.. And moving to the desert which was all my parents choice the fishing ground to a halt...yea yea there's lake Mead. But it's an hour away and you really need a boat.. In Illinois i was about to throw my pole across the handle bars of my bike and ride to a countless number of ponds... I freaking miss it and In the spring when my sons finish school...ILLINOIS HERE WE COME.. Just closed on a beautiful house in woodstock illinois... And will be arriving in May right in the spring.. I can't express how excited I am to get those lures back on the water for REAL FISHING.... Matt you're vids have kept my drive for fishing going and soon I'll be able to actually dangle a line again...thank you for all you do and the amazing vids you share with us 🤘🏻
Hey heyyyyyy Matt 👋🥸... This was awesome, I'm so glad that I get to tag along on some of your expeditions since my injury I haven't been able to fish.. and I absolutely love fishing sooooo.. Ty for allowing me to tag along.. See you on the next one an stay safe out there.. Buh Bye from Central Canada 👋🤓
I thought you were going to get a giant. They even released sort of funny. Maybe the water is that cold already. Always entertaining, the one by the bridge and dam was really good, the small mouth vid. Where the smallie was trying to steal the bait from the northern, just cool.
@@michaelsicowitz362 Yeah I saw a couple nice fish swimming around but couldn’t get them to bite. I’ve had really limited time on the water lately so I have to choose between uploading an average trip or no video at all. I went ice fishing this week and only caught a couple little pike, and just hit delete on my GoPro when I got home. I do have a bunch of awesome trips filmed over the summer to upload still but I’m going to hold off on them for a month or two to jump start my channel when we get closer to spring.
Would love to catch some of those pike and muskie but they don't have them in California.love your show Rob from California.good luck and be safe out there.
Love the fact that you are still using your Tarpon 120 after this many years. I just recently acquired a Pelican Catch 120 from my uncle and I love it. It’s understandable how you mainly stick with one kayak if it really fits you
I’ll fish from my Tarpon until I put a hole through the hull! Maybe longer I guess lol, I had a crack at one of the scrupper hole bottoms that would let several gallons of water in per trip toward the end of summer, had to plastic weld that one.
Smashing video like it alot love the pike perch an muckey videos tho carnt beat them plus on a kayak for play bud keep up the good work still watching afder 3 years ❤
Nice pike video, Matt. Sounds like your weather changed this week. Friends in the Fargo-Moorehead area posted pictures of their first snow storm moving through. Stay warm. Tight Lines!
I feel like the baits you pick for your videos are having a direct effect on Tackle Warehouse's stock 😄 I'm definitely guilty of contributing to that - I took advantage of their black friday sales and got: -Spro BBZ1 Rat - 40 size grey ghost -Bucca Baby Bull Rat - field mouse -Savage Gear Hard 4Play V2 - 200mm perch & 135mm golden shiner -Storm 360GT Searchbait - 4.5" smelt Would've gotten Daiwa J-Fluoro but the heaviest they had was 30lb at the time of my order 😑 Anyway I'm sure they thank you lol. Can't wait for spring to try them out!
Pike don't GaS about getting caught. I had the same fish twice on more than one occasion one had the lure clamped in his mouth not hooked and eventually tossed it at the boat. Then seeing it splash down he hit it again and was hooked for sure. Another one put back in the water hit the lure dangling beside him. I think they get mad and go into attack mode. I use Perch Rapala and strangely a 5 Mepps with a rubber worm on one hook. It seems to work I don't know why. Mepps are awesome.
FWIW, this is a $140 swim bait. 😳 It really moves and I do love that white stripe on top for visual orientation. Metro Glide is no longer offered in this perch color, however, just Night Shiner, RG Shad, Golden Shad, and Crappie. Just as a very long shot, the Crappie version might just catch the biggest smallmouth in your river. Really big smallmouth love to eat crappies. I caught a 6-1 smallmouth on the New River in Virginia that puked up a crappie as I fought it, and had another half-way down its crushers when I landed it. Frankly until then I didn’t even know there were crappie in there! FWIW. 😮
Yeah that’s why I played it safe with a steel leader on this one! I’ve tried a smaller crappie glide bait for smallies and caught several nice ones, but I might have to try one of these bigger ones some time! I know I saw a really nice looking crappie one quite a bit cheaper, maybe the Bass Pro brand one. I’ll be doing some lure shopping the next month or so to get some new stuff for next year!
I fished the bunny lure earlier this summer, didn’t have the greatest day with it but I caught a few bass. I’m holding onto the footage still I might upload it closer to spring time.
Hey! I’m very new to your channel and LOVE what you do and want to do this. Do you have a video that goes over all your gear? Kayak? Rods? And so on? Love your vids !!!
When you first caught a long and big fish, why did you release it again? Why didn't you take it home to enjoy? I'm curious about the taste of the fish you caught.
Pike are good to eat they just have some extra bones to deal with. I’ll keep some once we get into ice fishing season, I just don’t like dragging a stringer of fish when I’m kayaking because I like to cover a lot of water.
Man I watch you all the time I would love to have a few lures from you signed I love you content I lure hut slot at lakes I bet there's some nice ones lost at the lakes you go to
I enjoy watching these videos. But there are so many ppl against fishing at all if ur just gonna hurt the fish to release it. But keep on doing what u do there are many who enjoy the vids
Awesome video man! You gained another subscriber. Mind if I ask how you rigged the gopro in front of you -- did that mount come with the kayak or did you make it yourself?
I built that entire camera rig myself several years ago. I used ABS and HDPE plastic and a piece of carbon fiber tube and when I have a battery in my front hatch it will supply the GoPro with 5v to keep it constantly charged up.
@ Thank you so much for your reply! Did you make the gopro charging rig yourself too? I’m really interested in specifically how the gopro stays charged!
I either tie a 50lb fluoro leader or use a 30lb steel Berkley leader. Expensive lures like this I like to play it safe with steel, although it would probably have a little better action running a fluoro leader.
Do you attach a split ring at the end of your leader? I recently got into glidebaits and realized attaching the bait directly to the snap kills the action due to the "gap".
I'm 66 and I fish to fish, I don't care to much about size, I just like to catch and release, I did keep a few trout for my Mom when she was alive, But I wonder do you keep any or are you just fishing for the fun? Maybe catch the State record of whatever species that got on your hook?
Usually I fish for fun, I’m more looking to get footage than fill my freezer. I might keep a few pike though once I start getting them through the ice. My three year old daughter loves fish but she always picks the breading off so I’d like to try baking some pike fillets one of these days.
Yeah they aren’t cheap. I get a little nervous tossing those expensive lures. I kind of prefer cheaper stuff, that way I can bring a spare. There’s nothing worse than only having one and losing it to a tree snag or something then my day of filming is pretty much done.
For a not biting kind of day you still got one really nice pike. Any day you don't get skunked is a good day! Thank you for sharing!!
It was a tough bite out there! This was my best day out of a couple trips to this spot, the previous one I had a few muskie follows but ended up getting skunked.
Love the Pike and Muskie videos!!
Pike and musky videos are the best !!
Any day catching is a good day, regardless of the size of fish caught IMO. Even if you don't catch anything, being on the water and in nature is good for the soul.
Thanks for another serenity glide into nature. A very welcome break from the madness of "the world." Keep on fishin'.
Great.
More of this please.
Best regards from Germany.
Cold weather pike fishing is great. Love doing it here in Michigan. I've been watching for some time now. Fantastic channel!
Loved the way you made sure the large pike was ok while releasing him. Great stuff, thanks for your videos.

As always thank you for your video and your time, I appreciate you
Thanks Matt, I really enjoyed this river trek that resulted in some nice pike! Looking very much forward to those river monsters later in the fall! Take care and be safe!
I really like that lure! I think it looks real when you used it! If I were a big pike or musky I’d hit it! Thanks for taking me along.
This is definitely the best fishing channel, I always am super excited when I see you posts!! Thank you!!!
Another peaceful day. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Thank for taking us along ND Yak! Saturday mornings just weren't the same a few weeks back! 🙂

Beautiful pike 👏🎣 Maestro
Enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing your fishing experience.
I appreciate how you showed your method of jigging the lure during retrieve.
Matt may your family stay safe and warm this winter. Thanks for your great videos. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Another relaxing fishing session, cheers up a gloomy day in the uk..
Nice day anyway right up to the end
Awesome footage! Can't wait to see your ice fishing videos.
We’ve got ice making weather now! I’m guessing in the next week I’ll probably be on the ice.
Glad to see you posting again Matt. Hope all is well.
Every weekend i'm waiting for some fishing videos of yours and when i see that there is new video...oh man,im sooo happy :) Greetings from Canada

I already know the throwback bunny lure is gonna catch some huge smallies and largies for you. I can’t wait til summer
Looking forward to cruising the river with you and hooking into some pike!
Hurry back. Appreciate you braving the elements..
Couldn't agree more re: the action-in fact that's exactly what I said when you first tested it. 👍
Hi,

Such a beautiful area.
Nothin better than that feeling of catching a big one right at the end of filming a video for 6 hours
Love throwback baits good crew amazing baits
Wow those lures are expensive. Glad you caught a few 👍
The man the myth the legend...
Nice pike man definitely a good way to end the day
Glide baits are so good for fall pike lol. Caught so many big ones the last few times I’ve been out
Nice pike video, Matt. Sounds like your weather changed this week. Friends in the Fargo-Moorehead area posted pictures of their first snow storm moving through. Stay warm. Tight Lines!
I’ll be digging out the ice fishing gear this weekend!
Throwback baits, one of my favorite Insta channels finds my favorite You tube channel. Has to be good!!!
Looks like metroglide would use a layer of epoxy, or some polish, to protect it from the teeth.
Matt, you rock! Love the channel and content. Peace
One of the hardest baits to get your hands on right now.
A beautiful pike for sure. And one so cold it's mouth turned blue 😅
He’s fishing a Throwback!!
He says it right in the beginning of the video they sent him a package
Saw you on Kayak Angler
Good job as always
Hopefully, this year, it will be good for ice fishing. Love those videos. I live in Florida, so it’s like you’re fishing on mars 😂😂
11:18 with the metro glide's tail sticking out of it's gill is a crazy shot
Pike get the blue tint when they eat a lot of craws and such if I'm not mistaken. Quite interesting.
I feel like the baits you pick for your videos are having a direct effect on Tackle Warehouse's stock 😄
I'm definitely guilty of contributing to that - I took advantage of their black friday sales and got:
-Spro BBZ1 Rat - 40 size grey ghost
-Bucca Baby Bull Rat - field mouse
-Savage Gear Hard 4Play V2 - 200mm perch & 135mm golden shiner
-Storm 360GT Searchbait - 4.5" smelt
Would've gotten Daiwa J-Fluoro but the heaviest they had was 30lb at the time of my order 😑 Anyway I'm sure they thank you lol. Can't wait for spring to try them out!
Very nice river pike, great video.👍
Oh it's comin but not a bad day at all on the river!!!
I've picked up couple swimbaits that caught my attention got the baby bullshad couple s wavet 120s and the dargon minnow by matzu
throwback baits are my favorite. the walker walker and chickadee would get demolished

"Howdy everyone." 😀
Es geht aufwärts, sprach der Fisch als er an der Angel hing .😂
Cool here in Brazil we fish a lot of peacokbass
Man that pike with blueish mouth also had some blue tint in it's fins by the looks of it. Fella got hooked on gatorade!

It’s a Frabill conservation series, 25 or 26x30 if I remember right.
