I 100% get what you're saying about the phone, I put it on do not disturb and only allow people close to me to call. It's like muscle memory to automatically open certain apps when on the phone
I just bought one after seeing your video since they are $30 now! I was just wondering how you mounted it to your desk as I would like a similar set up. Great vid btw!
You have to play around with some of the attachments. The one I found to work best is the air vent attachment. You can then prop up the spotify car thing with it.
@@ChrisXia That's actually clever. I used to have mine mounted to the bottom corner of my 34" ultrawide monitor but have since moved it to sit on top of my Megalodon 3 knob macro pad using a Scosche magnet mount.
I just got mine yesterday and the only reason why I'm also using it at my desktop right now is purely due to laziness. I didn't feel like setting it up in my car. But honestly it's been amazing for the same reasons you mentioned in this video and if it wasn't so expensive at $80, I'd probably buy another one just so I could keep one in my car and the other here at my PC.
Hi Chris, this was just pot on sale by Spotify for $29 and I just snapped it up. The product page mentions having to use a 12V power source (I guess a cigarette lighter) but in your video you mention you can just connect it to USB? Is that the only wired connector you needed? Thanks and great video!
It was giving me that warning too even when plugged into the car. Just hold the power button again after the warning comes up and it should start like normal
You may be able to skip past that. Or, need to plug into a USB port that has more power. I had same issue till plugged into a USB-C port. Luckily I had the adapter to do handy. If no, try a wall charger that has more power...
You have to make sure that the Car Thing is getting enough power. It's possible the power block you're using isn't supplying enough power. You don't need the adapter it came with.
does anyone know what the technical limitation is that prevents it from connecting to a MacBook instead of a phone? Is there some bluetooth profile issue or something? seems like a ridiculous thing to leave out.
Can I plug this device into a portable charger and old speakers that only have an Aux cord as a solution to the old speakers not being Bluetooth compatible?
I got it to connect directly by mistake of having it set up like this gentleman said but then connecting the phone that was paired with it to a separate BT speaker. After connecting the device was just connected directly to the pc. Not really sure what happened but I'm happy never the less. Also wondered if you could pair it through the pc web cam and the qr code. Long shot but maybe..
did you try to connect to ur pc instead of ur phone off rip ? or did you have it connected to ur phone first and then accidentally connect it to ur pc? im sick of having to switch where I want my music playing.
I just plugged it into my computer and it says use car think with car adapter provided? How did you bypass this with the computer. I can't find any articles about it.
just hold the power button on the topside above the knob. idk about now but the spotify app doesnt forcefully control my pc to play what i want to, instead it plays through my phone speakers
I’m looking at grabbing one of these and using it for multi-room audio. I’m wondering if you can select the speaker it plays to from the Car Thing directly or is that only possible from the PC application?
It just controls whatever is playing spotify - search spotify, play playlists, radio, device volume, and albums. It is an awesome little device but is being controlled by your phone first.
Doesn't work with volume wheel because it won't connect directly to PC so wheel changes volume on phone even when playing from PC speakers and phone is connected to PC. EDIT: uses spotify volume on PC, not PC volume, so I never visually saw it or noticed since spotify was at 100 and pc was at 4 and was increasing lol
just hold the power button on the topside above the knob. idk about now but the spotify app doesnt forcefully control my pc to play what i want to, instead it plays through my phone speakers
This was thr plan when I bought and works great for it! I'm over waiting for spotify to go high def (maybe they should have devoted the resources to that endeavor instead?!) So now on the hunt to repurpose to, say Amazon music, and ditch spotify. ::sigh::
Does anyone know how to connect it to my PC? I tried plugging the cable into my USB port and it says that the car thing needs the car charger to power on.
@@deanhiggins1338 I snagged one immediately when I saw that. I’m using it right now, it’s surprisingly easier than pulling out my phone or alt-tabbing to Spotify. Worth it.
I'm hoping a hack comes out to be able to use it as like a mini monitor on your computer, just for stuff like media controls, or who knows what. Maybe a pseudo stream deck, that you can program macros into. Or a way to connect it to your home's Google/Apple/Amazon/Home Assistant smart setup, and control lights, audio/music, and other smart functions.
Damn. I get you’re probably attempting to be constructive, but when that’s all you say it just seems kinda off-putting. Didn’t mention anything positive about the video. Idk. You know what would be perfect? An old scrollwheel ipod with a spotify OS, so you can synch your spotify music to it just like the mighty vibe...
Honestly confused as to why people haven’t tried to hack this thing and make it a media remote….
I just got mine, and plan to do the same here when not in my car, or better yet, use it as part of my sim racing rig

Someone need to make a custom firmware for it. Maybe use it as a stream deck with virtual buttons and stuff
