I have an insane idea. You raise your monitor and you create a Lazy Susan. This way, instead of switch and storing all the gadgets, you rotate them under the monitor. The tools you need in front can be rotated into place. Now, how big of one, unsure. This all depends on how many you have and how big or small they are.
Why don't you put the units on toy train rails & wheels so you can just shunt them back & forth either in a circle as described above or just along the table from left to right?
This is the most best most hilarious solution to maybe the nichest problem in history. God knows this only works for you but I love seeing the process. Keep it up!
I don't think i'd use a pedal board for this but the idea where you combine multiple devices into a "combo" is pretty novel. If you create a shelf that holds them all with labels on each cubby for what "combo" board is inside that would be awesome. Or add a hook to each pedal board and hang them from a curtain rod or something on your wall. Whatever the storage solution, making it grab and go is pretty neat. Not to mention some of these boards could work just as well on an ipad in a different location as they do on the computer.
I could see a magnetic USB adapter making the swapping of boards even easier! Probably only for USB-A though, I've heard mixed things about USB-C magnetic adapters.
Everything that deals with pedals is named like it was thrown in a random word generator. Rippley Fall, Dellray LLama, Harmonious Funk, GHOSTFIRE BABY 1. Yeah it's all gibberish. At least the older companies like Ibanez used to name their pedals like it was describing the type of overdrive or distort. Like really, what the hell kind of sound does "BIG MUFF PI" make????
A year ago, I discovered your channel because of this video. I came back from time to time and let me tell you something. Bro, your videos are so cathartic to me, even I don't have the money to buy some of your gadgets, I keep dreaming about one day to have them and do exactly what you do with them. Let me tell you something else: I think there's nothing wrong in change your setup from time to time. It's the choice to have them, that makes the entire workflow adorable and kinda relaxing (at least to me 😅) Thanks for this content, man. New subscriber :)
I feel like we need more Work From Hype content. I always get so excited for your videos and wish they came more often…. My wallet thanks you for making less content of course😂
Feel like this is somewhat solving a problem that doesn't exist. How much easier is constantly swapping out gadgets, over just keeping your desk organized?
This is how I am but for me it's not a pain switching in and out! I love changing and rearanging so it always feels fresh and new whenever I make a change. Love the vid, cheers.
This is awesome! As a musician / RUclipsr who has the same issue, I love this idea. But maybe you just need a music desk workstation like the Wavebone Headquater desk or something similar? That way everything is there.. and no swapping.. sort of.
I'd never seen that desk before, thank you for putting it on my radar. You're likely on to something though, maybe I should explore musical desk setups to find solutions!
Love this idea. I've attempted to do something sort of like this with my portable desk as a whole, but haven't thought to focus on a smaller scale. I also have this similar OCD conundrum, and that Animal Crossing story certainly resonates with me. My theory is just that I always like to have the most optimized setup for the task at hand. Nothing more, nothing less. Whatever it may be, I only want the most relevant devices in front of me; as anything I'm not actively using becomes instant clutter / distraction. This is why I love this Gadget Rack idea that can also help with light cable management. My current setup is in my living room, as my bedroom is too small for any practical work / entertainment. So I have my PC and console hooked up to the TV, and I use a manually height adjustable desk on wheels that carries everything I need on it; which I can wheel off to the side of the living room when not in use. I have just 2 meter thunderbolt cable that I'll connect to a docking station on this desk when I need the non-wireless stuff powered and connected. This does require a separate power source, but I had built this into the desk by adding a mountable power strip on the underside, which I can easily slide off and put aside when putting the desk away. I thought I had it all figured out this way, but I find myself rearranging the surface of my desk depending on the task, or needing to take things off of the desk to make room for other stuff on occasion. Everything at once is just too cluttered, though I do use everything at one point or another. This video offers some much needed food for thought! 🍻
I literally just did the same thing! That's awesome! I actually included different keyboards to my pedalboard to suit different needs. Gaming vs work vs editing videos. Currently trying to figure out how pluging in different "pedalboards" will trigger different automations on my desk to change lighting and room automations.
For me what helped get me organized and feel less overwhelmed was to go through and donate/sell stuff on my desk im no longer using. I find theres a lot of value in being intentional with what im buying/using.
It's the same around here. I'm always changing my office. It got worse after I went full home office. It helps keep me motivated and to enjoy my workspace, so I think that's a good thing 😅
Just wanted to drop in and say that I combined this idea with an IKEA hack that used small wall shelves as pedalboards. For about $15 AUD ($10USD) I got a 2ft shelf that suits my needs. I don't need to swap gear around constantly, but now I got a stand for my drawing tablet and a tidy place to keep/charge my phone, watch and earbuds. Might attach a desktop USB charger to the underside to keep cabling on the desk even neater.
I did a similar thing with a spare 10 U rack from my band days. I loaded it with drawers, a sliding shelf and a spare power conditioner and turned it into my A/V rack. Its on casters and at that time was also a place to stand a display on. The sliding shelf had a Bluetooth keyboard, mouse a USB dock and HDMI switch. I ran the wiring the same way I did a guitar rig. The pedal board idea is genius!
That sounds like a perfect way to reuse the old gear rack. Also, as someone who's been buying music gear for too long I couldn't believe how cheap pedalboards are now, kids these days have it good lol.
Right? It's crazy indeed. We just moved into a smaller room in the house and downsized the tech. My old pedaltrain nano could be a perfect solution to how to wrangle everything into the small space!
I find it interesting how much overlap there's been between my brothers music and my streaming. We don't know how to speak the same language, but we're conquering the same problems.
You inspired me. I think the pedal board is a great platform....FOR CHARGING. Hear me out. All sorts of camera, AA battery chargers, tool chargers are just begging to be modular with wire management. I built one of out of wood to help control the wire mess I have on my charge area but it is nowhere near as slim or sturdy as your guitar pedal solution. So I thank you so much to getting me to rethink the setup again.
I love the Big Muff. If you only have one pedal, it should be that one. Also...pedal board for gadgets? Genius. I'm a guitar playing developer as well, so this really hits home for me too.
You know, I did something similar myself. The main difference is that I don't swap devices often, but I still wanted them easily removed and in a confortable spot. So I basically made an elevated wood platform on my desk, under the screen, and I have my uphoria audio card on top of it and my touch screen just in front of it. When I'm not using it or I need space, I just tuck it underneath the platform. Its also a great space to keep my 14 inch laptop accesible but out of the way. I also have a wireless charger for my watch attached just under the platform, so I don't see the charger or cables, but I can just put my watch on top and easily charge it.
Unfortunately I use a big midi keyboard and I cant move it easily. I wanted to have it concealed under the table, but I cant because of a metal beam in the way. So i just made like a countertop on top of my storage to my side and placed it there.
For a DIY option, there’s square aluminium tubing that can be bought from Bunnings or Home Depot. Just need a hack saw and use various combinations of t-joiner bits. Maybe screw or stick feet underneath from the furniture padding aisle. Also if velcro is not stronk enough, dual lock is an even more robust alternative
Whoa, thanks for the tip. I hadn't considered heading to the hardware store for the solution. If I had a more industrial looking desk setup I bet that would be the perfect system for gear.
in regards to your studio monitors, tweeters should be on the outside, in a horizontal speaker layout. You have your tweeters on the inside. You should flip them.
As a guitar player with a similar way of thinking about pedals and pedalboards, I find it embarrassing how obvious a solution this is to desktop layouts and how I've never thought of it. I used to play with a guy that did this exact thing with his guitar pedal setups....while I have a couple big ones that I manage, he has multiple small ones...."this is the RATM/90s drop D grunge board, this is the metal board," etc. It just makes sense.
I did something like this with extruded aluminum, similar to what you'd see on frames of DIY 3d printers. Works pretty well but I phased out extra devices out of my workflow a while back. If I did it again I'd still use the aluminum but Id find a way to make them swing out from under the desk or on a tray etc.
The way I cackled when you were like, "You know what solves the problem?" And in my head, I was like "More pedal boards" at the exact same time as when you said it.
Sorry dude, for 40 bucks each one, you got ripped off. You could make them yourself with aluminum, Acrylic, Iron cast or wood. Custom designed to fit the size of your gear. Not too hard to pull off. Good video production for sure.
One last Improvement Add magnetic connectors to all the hubs and the one chord on your desk When you set a rack down it'll just snap together and be ready to use
Bro, this is genius. I am definitely using this in my own setup! My desk is multi-functional because I have a lot of different hobbies and types of work, so this is an excellent solution. A+ video
I'm also now imagining a Line 6 Helix equivalent for PC gadgets somehow. Where it can sort of emulate macro pads and Spotify controllers and things like that, haha
I feel like if you just mounted your screen, you would have enough space to accommodate 4 racks... Using different height for the back 2, where you would put the ones you use the least, so you can see and reach them easily. At least you could have 3 in line ready to be swappable with the 4th that is in front of you keyboard. Or, maybe, a desk upgrade would make it so you can have them in a squared circle in front of you. The desk would need to have a bit more depth than the one you have now and you would have probably to customize a solution for what is behind those racks, once they are now a bit closer to you and can look like they are in "the middle" of the desk. Nice video and solution for gadgets. Made me rethink my dream setup.
Yours is my favourite tech/gadget channel. Every one else just covers the same things and follows the same formula so I also appreciate your presentation style and your distinct content. The tech rack is a neat idea. I've been playing around with a similar problem. Maybe I'll finally start that youtube channel to document whatever silly little ideas I have.
This was one of those projects where by the end of it I was close to pulling the trigger on a 3D printer. I think it's the next step for the channel. Any models you'd recommend?
Totally feel you about never feeling satisfied with the setup. There's always something to optimize, move around, there's always a cleaner way to arrange things. It's seriously an addiction. Sometimes I start going crazy at work and reorganizing my desk at the office for no fucking reason what so ever lol
I guess there's some benefit to saving a few minutes each time you want to do something but it doesn't look all that sleek and it also blocks your view of the bottom of the screen.
It's definitely a solution for a problem that is very specific to me, but I just wanted to share in case anyone found it interesting. I will say the tablet appears to block the screen only when I'm filming my with camera low with this specific lens on my camera. During normal usage it doesn't block the screen from where I sit.
Depending on how sensitive the devices are to magnetism you could use Sugru and magnets on your devices along with strips of ferrous metal on the pedal boards, instead of velcro…
Nice idea in terms of function. But as you half-way pointed out, a $40 hunk of metal is overkill. You could definitely make something similar out of 4 small pieces of wood (2 short and 2 long). Including spraying it black (optional), fixings, a roll of Velcro and some rubber feet (which will be more suitable to this application than the plastic ones on the Pedal Board) - I'd be surprised if it was even half the cost. Although it will obviously cost you more in time and effort.
ok i bit and bought one. I have a jabra speaker puke, lamp control knob and a stream deck on mine with the small usb hub attached to it. It works great for my setup I'm very happy with the setup.
Wait until you start getting into making your own custom sized and angled wooden stands with leather wrapped wrist pads. I don’t have a problem at all.
It's kinda Buddhist the way you spend hours creating something only to discard it in the end - like you enjoy the process of creating something more than the final product.
I need to find a way to implement something similar to my setup but my issue is more I play multiple consoles and every console I play using different accessories.
Don't forget to mention that those velcro pads are not easy to get off if you don't want them on your devices anymore - lots of used guitar pedals get sold with the velcro still on them because people don't want the hassle of getting them off and then getting the gunk residue left over off too. 😅
A rack is a great idea! I've thought about something similar for my second laptop. Say, where did you get your separated ergo keyboard? I've been looking for one for years to relieve my carpal tunnel.
cool idea - but serious overkill in construction and price. A well-built, plastic frame & platform- (or perhaps even wood) of the same design would be just as good and cheaper. Additionally - finding (or making) 2 or 3 accessory devices that covers the gamut which can remain on the desk more permanently, vs. having to switch specialized devices/items out all the time.
For the android tablet playing music, how do you manage multiple audio devices into your headphones? i.e. listening to your computer's audio output and the tablet audio output on the same pair of headphones. It doesn't seem like you have anything plugged into the tablet so I'm guessing it's all just Bluetooth connections? If so, what does that look like? Thanks in advance!
Why don't you put the units on toy train rails & wheels so you can just shunt them back & forth either in a circle as described above or just along the table from left to right?
thats a nice idea i wanna try also i know this metal pieces are not meant for doing the stuff on this videi but 40 dollars aww man
As a guitar player and tech head I think this is brilliant! I’ll be implementing this to my own setup soon. Thanks!
This is the most best most hilarious solution to maybe the nichest problem in history. God knows this only works for you but I love seeing the process. Keep it up!

This is an epic idea that could help me to reduce clutter so much. I already have a 3d printable system that could be adapted for this purpose!
Di you have uploaded it to thingiverse?
That's literally what I thought of
I could see a magnetic USB adapter making the swapping of boards even easier! Probably only for USB-A though, I've heard mixed things about USB-C magnetic adapters.
Like the Volta cables? I have a USB C bit in my keyboard, so far so good 🤞🏽
That is a great idea! Good find.

Very interesting. Thank you for sharing. I have absolutely no use for this, but I am glad the RUclips algorithm has recommended it.
I am glad you enjoyed it! (This was definitely a self created problem and solution lol)
The midi keyboard one feels a bit unecessary tho
The video I didn't know I needed. This kind of thing is catnip to me, thank you.
Great video as always. The editing. The storytelling. The information. Absolutely fantastic. Looking forward to many more!
Thank you so much for this comment. Glad you are here and enjoying the vids.

@@WorkFromHype look at keyboard drawer slides if you’re going to go for it, should do the trick.
The intro really hit home. I can totally relate.
This is freaking brilliant. I already have some pedalboards around. Gotta try it. Thanks!

I feel like I'm watching a 2000 teen movie ....and ITS FREAKING GREAT I miss those times and vibes
Rack is back baby. Rack is back !
This is not the brightest idea but it is still an idea and I respect it
Yours is my favourite tech/gadget channel. Every one else just covers the same things and follows the same formula so I also appreciate your presentation style and your distinct content. Thanks for the support! If you start a channel I'll be sure to subscribe!
This is a great idea but I'd just simply model and 3D print one or make one out of some scrap wood and it would be a heck of a lot cheaper
Cool! Might make a few for 3.00 each of wood and paint.
Idk why but I love these videos I love seeing more tech ideas I find it relaxing
What a great idea, man! Well done video too.
Thanks for watching!
Nice idea in terms of function. But as you half-way pointed out, a $40 hunk of metal is overkill. You could definitely make something similar out of 4 small pieces of wood (2 short and 2 long).

this video has amazing composition and pacing, really easy to understand and pleasing visuals. great video!
Really appreciate the comment. Thanks for watching.
I legit was looking for a stand just like that. You have the best gadgets review
Wait until you start getting into making your own custom sized and angled wooden stands with leather wrapped wrist pads. I don’t have a problem at all.
Very Nice! Might have to adopt this.
Beautiful, elegant, and sturdy. Well done!
Fantastic idea!!! Thanks for sharing, can't wait to find a way to implement something for my own setup!
I absolutely love this idea and thank you for sharing this. I am going to run with this at some point soon.
Sounds like a great first product for the channel. 🤔😏
Just yesterday I looked up your channel because I thought I somehow unsubscribed. Glad you're back!
Very interesting. I like your videos.
I mostly like to keep things compact where possible and use keyboard shortcuts.
now why didn't I think of that?! effing brilliant solution man 👍
Lmao as a guitar player and avid gamer who works from home, I'm surprised I never thought of doing this. Awesome video!!
I rearrange my room and setup all the time. Evolution.
This is the way.
Broooo you're a fucking genius, I'm Def buying a couple of those!
don't know if i like the jazzmaster or the schecter ultra more, they're both beautiful
Ah. Someone else who does what I call shooting myself in the foot. Thanks for the video.
Lol I just ordered one for myself. What a smart solution.
Hello Playdate!
Love this guitar pedal board gadget rack idea!
This is badass bro! Modular spaces can get very customizable. I'd love to see what other people can make of this neat idea : ]
Thanks man!
Absolutely brilliant idea!
pretty cool and you could mount underneath a power bank... great stuff and video :)
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant. I’m definitely inspired by this idea.
This is so mind blowing and game changer!
I love this concept! I might use it in the future :)
I know why you change so often: The way is the goal. Being at the end is boring ;) But tinkering is the fun part.
Great vid!
what kind of tablet stand are you using?
nope for the gadget but yesss to the channel! Good work buddy! Nice content, pleasant to see and hear!
It's kinda Buddhist the way you spend hours creating something only to discard it in the end - like you enjoy the process of creating something more than the final product.
big brain creative moment
I need to find a way to implement something similar to my setup but my issue is more I play multiple consoles and every console I play using different accessories.
Don't forget to mention that those velcro pads are not easy to get off if you don't want them on your devices anymore - lots of used guitar pedals get sold with the velcro still on them because people don't want the hassle of getting them off and then getting the gunk residue left over off too. 😅
Look up adhesive remover… There’s various options that make it easy… but you definitely want gloves and ventilation when using.
Command strips could be a good easy-to-remove alternative.
Great video!
Go easy on the warp stabilisation
Friggin brilliant!
seeing this video gave me an idea but i cant find a board big enough to house my 15.6 portable monitor
A rack is a great idea! I've thought about something similar for my second laptop. Say, where did you get your separated ergo keyboard? I've been looking for one for years to relieve my carpal tunnel.
How do you integrate the tablet into your work flow? Do you use it as a remote or standalone piece of tech?
Superb quality, like always. 🙌
cool idea - but serious overkill in construction and price.
Yo man, you need a gadget rack for your gadget racks!
That's smart AF😮
For the android tablet playing music, how do you manage multiple audio devices into your headphones? i.e. listening to your computer's audio output and the tablet audio output on the same pair of headphones. It doesn't seem like you have anything plugged into the tablet so I'm guessing it's all just Bluetooth connections? If so, what does that look like?
Thanks in advance!
Another great video, kudos!
