In 1963 I wanted a cool Hot Rod 40 Ford pick up truck. Instead my dad bought a 47 Dodge pick up from a LAPD auction. He was high bidder at $6.00. It needed some work. We towed it home and my mother made him park in the back yard away out of view. It was at one time reddish and blackish in color and dents were plentifully. It rolled and stopped. We rebuilt the motor and put in a new clutch and rebuilt the brake system.
For the next three years, in this truck I transported about 60 tons of sand, gravel and cement and tons of rebar on side rack racks as for my dad’s yard projects. Left turns with the steel loaded on the right were best taken a reduced speeds. One time a driveshaft u joint let go and another time the emergency brake wouldn’t release. That was it. The stock drive line is a rewarding pleasure on every drive back in time. My favorite feature was the standard air conditioning system. Your truck is perfect.

Dodge had a lot of periods when they excelled beyond Ford and Chevy. The late 20's comes to mind for all the times a Dodge Bros. truck had to pull a Ford or Chevy up over a hill, the turning radius of the "Pilot House" designs of the late 40's and early 50's. The 1964 Dodge Van was a favorite of plumbers and electricians due to their structural integrity. Dodge had the first extended cab in 1973. The list goes on...Of course there's my '57 Dodge D100 on this channel that I've been working on for over 20 years... but what's the rush?

I agree. A flat head six definitely created a sound from a simpler time,,,
