Thank You most kindly REALVSMITH , Robert Hunter is one of the Modern Age's greatest visionaries/poets/lyricist/musicians, and I believe it is his open-ness to muses from other eras and other cultures that expands upon his innate genius --- I love you Robert Hunter.
    sincerely yours

I came of age in the 90's and there is some good music from the however I say 1996 was the day the music died. Or year lol. The alternative scene before it became commercialized. Though I listen to nothing but 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's music and I was born in 81 so it was before my time. Funk, soul, blues, jazz and I have 958 Grateful Dead CDs. Anything that came out after 2000 I have absolutely no use for of any genre. It's all pop music now. Old school is where it's at. You sound like you have a good musical head on your shoulders. Check out Fela Kuti, he is unparalleled. Read about him on Wikipedia too, fuckin super interesting dude.

Yeah, that was a good show; very rowdy from what I remember. Hunter praised the New York Giants and stated the the Dead's recent European tour didn't go over so well in some places.

There's a decent quality download of this live on the Archives 97 Fox theater Boulder. Is the only time he has performed the entire suite with recognition. Good walking town Boulder. Coolest show seen at that little maybe 500 person place and seen lot of shows there over the years from Phish to String cheese to mcoury band to Electron. You name it. This Terrapin was the best thing ever played there.

Saw Robert Hunter at the New Daisy theater in Memphis, Tennessee in the spring of 2002 (April I think) It was a surreal experience. 50 year old men sitting in front of the stage like they were Kindergarteners at story time. So much respect and reverence and was such an intimate experience. After the show he shook people's hands from the stage and signed autographs, including his Box of Rain book that I had brought with me. I recorded the show from the balcony with a pair of AKG C1000's and a Sony D-8 analog deck. God I wish I knew where those tapes were...

Met Robert Hunter briefly, he was opening for Richard and Linda Thompson at a venue on Long Island NY. It was a late afternoon show in summer and we were standing in the hallway and the front door opened and out of the late afternoon sunshine a man running with his guitar case flew buy (obviously late) and we exchanged a few brief words. Wish we had more time. Great show though.

    James,
This is such a beautiful comment ya made about R. Hunter, so true. The muses and the archetypes. For me to hear this music stirs something ancient and magical within my soul.To see him live is an honor; the way he transitions from one song to the next is pure perfection. He is, to me the quintessential storyteller. At the same time he’s able to be totally straight up and in the now if that makes sense? The tune “One Thing To Try” has some of the best advice I’ve heard in a song.

    • @poppawheelie5666
      @poppawheelie5666 5 лет назад +3

"One thing to try" is so good yes!
      Take care of your people...
      "Rose of sharon"
      "Book of Daniel"
      "Arizona lightnin"
      "Touch of darkness" whoa
      But especially all of it

@hubblebubbly Thanks! I got to see him when he came to Seattle about 6 years ago, someone in the audience requested Terripin and he said he would do it the next night, I ended up get’en tickets for the next night and he performed the whole suite, it was a beautiful thing, just the man and his guitar. I’m glad I got to hear him play it live because he said he would probably never do it again.

I love Terrapin Station, but hearing it sung by Robert Hunter gives it more depth it seems. There's nothing like a song or a group of songs that actually tells a story and puts you in the midst thereof. I thought that Albert Bouchard of Blue Oyster Cult fame was the only one that had songs like this when he made the Imaginos demo tape, but Robert Hunter seems to blow him out of the water! Thank you for publishing this!

I remember finding a copy of this CD years ago.... so many hours of searching, followed by a thin trickle of bandwidth to download it on... And here it is! Haha, good upload, brev. I remember my room mate at the time talking about how he had to hear this song all the time while trying to sleep, because the room I was in was under his. Eventually he tried to take a crack at a couple of the parts, only to discover the guitar was trickier than he imagined.

What a gem!! As a lifelong deadhead, i always thought it was funny when i heard things like, "Robert Hunter was an honorary member of the Grateful Dead." This man was THE MUSE! Arguably the soul of the Grateful Dead. The worlds he created, inhabited by the likes of Stagger Lee, Bertha, Tennessee Jed, Althea, Reuben and Cerise......are not only reflections of our own, they are a world of their own.
