Who Would The ACC Replace FSU & Clemson With? Slept-On Football Teams, Transfer Portal Chaos Soon

  • Sooner or later, Florida State will find a way out of the ACC. Clemson and others could also end up leaving the conference at some point. Would the ACC look to bring new members in to replace them? If so, who? Would schools like Oregon State, Washington State, Tulane, Memphis, UConn and UCF make sense as ACC targets in the future? New members Cal and Stanford would probably like to see teams like Wazzu and OSU join them in order to create a western division.
Hosts Alex Donno and Kenton Gibbs discuss a recent article on AllCardinal.com by Kevin Borba about why schools like the ones listed above would make sense. Donno and Gibbs also break down a list of “ACC Games Of The Week” for each regular season week in 2024. Does Virginia Tech get enough representation on that list? The transfer portal is OPENING today. Who will the ACC lose?

Oregon State & Washington State would be my first two picks but if thats not possible then South Florida and UConn. In order I think my adds would be Oregon State, Washington State, South Florida, UConn, Boise State, Memphis, Air Force, Navy*/Georgetown, Army*/St. John’s, Rice, Tulane, UNLV and Temple. Do this right and you’ll have a 20-team ACC divided into 4 pods of 5 teams each. Each pod plays one of the other pods each season for 9 conference games annually with the top two ranked league teams or top two league teams with the best records play for the championship. Also, Notre Dame plays one pod per season (plus BC, Stanford, Army & Navy added on a rotating basis for a total of 6 annual ACC games). A competitive league with sustainable regional play and certainly could still be worth the current ACC revenue contract or better.

One team always overlooked despite performance, TV ratings and attendance is Boise State. That said, as far as replacements are concerned, this really depends on who actually leaves? The most likely scenario is 4 schools: 1: Clemson. 2: FSU. 3: Miami. 4: UNC. If this happens then the logical replacements are Tulane and USF ( Adding the Bulls so the ACC Network remains on a basic tier in Florida, and for Florida recruiting). Second is only Clemson & FSU. Then the ACC can stand pat.

I would argue at one time this was the number 2 football conference. Now, by its own admission, it is a tier 2 conference.
      Within the past year:
1: Not fighting for it conference champion to enter the CFP. Not a word of indignation.
2: Signing a 20-year media contract. Meanwhile, giving the right to exit to the broadcaster before the contract ends.
3: Trying to extort $700 million from two schools who can't compete against their in state rivals. It was reported in 2028. UF will receive between $80 to $100 million from the SEC. Meanwhile, FSU, at best, will receive $40 million.
Let us not mention: 1: The race to the courthouse. 2: Holding "meetings" in which no minutes have been published. 3: Obstruction of the NC Judge order for the media contract un redacted. All fairness: I'm blaming the judge.

It is about $3 per every subscriber to the ACC Network that lives in those States. And the COMCAST Deal BUNDLES the ACCN with the SECN and B1GN.

The problem with your believing this would not be the end of the ACC is that all that's keeping schools from bolting, and bolting to higher paying conferences that is, now is the grant of rights. Once FSU and Clemson show the grant of rights can be broken, a flood gate will be opened so that more than just FSU and Clemson will bolt. All who the SEC and Big 10 are interested in, will leave, probably leaving only half the schools currently in the conference, or worse, left. And not only that, that frees ESPN from having to respect their end of the deal and paying what the contract specifies to the remaining schools. So the remaining schools will be without funding from ESPN and so will go anywhere, if not accepted into the SEC or Big 10, where they will have a media deal in effect.

    • @mod4v
      @mod4v Месяц назад

Okay, let’s review them for you:
Around 2013, Jimbo Fisher makes little to no effort to ensure that the players he is recruiting are good for the locker room and for the APR (Academic Progress Rate). He fails to consistently recruit OL quality/numbers, QB character and the games that had been automatic wins begin to become hard-fought battles. Culture erodes, teamwork disappears, losses begin to mount. Players and coaches become frustrated that winning is no longer as easy as it once was. At the end, when he realizes that he has run the program into the ground by allowing all of this to happen, he also realizes that his marriage has failed and that the new FSU Administration is unwilling to prioritize the cost of requisite facilities and staffing needs a National Championship-contending football program.
Beyond those three years, Stan Wilcox, the new basketball-minded AD from Tobacco Road who is hell-bent on making a racially-motivated hire to replace Jimbo brings in his guy who has no clue how to fix the problems that have mounted over the previous four years and proceeds to make culture MUCH worse. Recruiting suffers horribly. Wilcox also convinces Eric Barron, the new university president, that he should sign an extension to the Grant of Rights and put the university on the hook to ESPN until 2036. The president, who doesn’t know anything about athletics and takes the AD's word for everything, signs the GoR and FSU is screwed like football bat. AD then bolts for an NCAA job in compliance and goes after FSU for a coach facilitating an NIL meeting (which, under current NCAA rules, is 100% legal today).
      So here we are today:
-New(ish) AD is the best hire the university has ever made (aside from Bobby Bowden and Mike Norvell, of course)
-New(ish) head coach is one of the best in the business
-Football team is back to its winning ways
-President and AD are in lockstep, doing what is necessary to make sure that the university and it’s athletic programs are able to compete at the highest levels.
I smell B1G things coming soon.

I have or can see Va Tech, UVA, NCST, UNC, Clemson, FSU, & Miami leaving the ACC. But because the ACC will have more valuable teams remaining and be able to maintain Autonomy status and ACC has media coverage the PAC does not. Also Boise State and Fresno State are inferior. What will happen if 6 or more schools leave the ACC, the ACC will add the three service academies for all sports, add WazzU, OzzU, San Diego State, and Wyoming out West and back East add Memphis, Texas State, Tulane, USF, CCU, App State, & JMU. Resulting in
    ACC East Division
    1. BC
    2. Syracuse
    3. Pitt
    4. Army
    5. Navy
    6. JMU
    7. App State
    8. Duke
    9. Wake Forest
    10. Coastal Carolina
    11. Georgia Tech
    12. USF
    ACC West Division
    1. Louisville
    2. Memphis
    3. Tulane
    4. Texas State
    5. SMU
    6. Air Force
    7. Wyoming
    8. San Diego State
    9. Stanford
    10. Cal
    11. OzzU
    12. WazzU
Now could the ACC West Division break off and become the PAC years down the road? It is possible. If that happens, then certain schools in AAC and SBC and CUSA and MAC who would make more sense to add if not for the need to address the issue with Stanford and Cal and SMU would be added eventually for a more regional ACC. And could see four teams of the West Division move over to the East as part of the new ACC.
The ACC West Division breaks off and becomes the recreation of the PAC, then it could focus on AAC, CUSA, and MWC schools that would meet the recreated academic standards and requirements that Stanford and Cal and five others would definitely need and require to be included in a conference with them. That means schools like Fresno State and Boise State will not be included. In fact the best way and only way the PAC gets rebuilt is this way realistically.
So in this scenario I would think Louisville, Memphis, Tulane, and SMU would depart from ACC West division and join the East division to make up the new ACC. The remaining ACC West division schools coalesce to form the new PAC and include in the new PAC the following schools:
    PAC Mountain
    1. Wyoming
    2. Colorado State
    3. Air Force
    4. UNT
    5. Texas State
    6. UTEP
    7. New Mexico
    8. New Mexico State
    9. Utah State
    PAC Pacific
    1. WazzU
    2. OzzU
    3. Cal
    4. Stanford
    5. U.C. Davis
    6. San Diego State
    7. Hawaii
    8. Nevada
    9. UNLV
From this chaos comes the new AAC which will literally be the best of the rest best of the Non Autonomy teams almost and will look like the following.
    AAC Atlantic/Central
    1. Temple
    2. Miami-Ohio
    3. Buffalo
    4. Toledo
    5. Liberty
    6. Marshall

Heck while I am at it, here is the new MAC and notice the SBC, CUSA, and MWC no longer exist in this scenario as I lay this out. So the new MAC and will just number them and not create divisions as there are about three different ways one could create divisions.

Calling it now if the FSU & Clemson leave the ACC for the Big12, will the Big12 get 29% of CFP payouts just like the Big10 & SEC.

WTF? FSU isn’t racking up millions of dollars in legal expenses to join the Big12.

More like 1 each for the new PAC, XII and ACC. Once all the pieces move and big media does not need the XII to be a harbor for the 4 corner schools as they return to the PAC, all those "teeth" you guys think Yourmark and the XII has will prove to be false teeth that ESPN has taken out. In the end it would not surprise me if the media did not move WVU, UCF and maybe Cincy to the ACC. Big media has a plan.

That's exactly why you're stuck in the ACC

The ACC will transfer into a non-football dominated conference. Led by losers like NC State and Miami. They should add UConn, Oregon State, WASU, Army, Navy, Air Force. All of the other sports are great. Less money but it's basketball. LOCKED ON ACC still sucks.

The acc is already a "non-football dominated conference". That's why they are withering on the vine now.

The ACC will not get a ESPN contract if FSU and Clemson leave. If they get out more top half school's will follow if they find a home. Over 20% of all views came off the back of those 2 schools. If they do renew it will be for less money. Hopefully, the power sports network of the CW will pay out millions more per school 🤣🤣

LinkedIn Billy will be saved bc his contact demands that 50% of his buyout has to be paid within 30 days.

Maybe the ACC should bring in all three academies? That has some merit.
