Great video of my hometown, lovely to watch while I’m at university in Liverpool! The library was indeed the old primary school, my mum went there... good intuition from you both! Thanks for this, can imagine myself revisiting this video a lot in years to come!
QAnother Great Video Richard, I really like your walks outside, it's interesting to see a Thai Takeaway in such a small Town/(Almost Village) like Church Stretton. I like your Shropshire "mini serieswithin your Quest for England. I Love little towns like Chruch Stretton, they're so Quinitessentially "English , the village vicar saying hello being a wonderful example , I almost expected Miss Marple to pop out round the next corner replet in her Victorian dark coloured Long dress and sensible Nanny's shoes. please keep it up. Good Luck and Safe Travels, Robert.
I lived in Shrewsbury (Bayston Hill) but went to the secondary school there Richard. Such a beautiful little place. I should plan a return visit. Lovely video.
A lovely rural village scene that we enjoyed sharing with the both of you. I must say, Richard, the audio and videos that you are producing are of exceptional quality.
I know this place well Richard, it's refreshing to hear someone who knows of its Roman history. I was born not too far away in Chester and used to come here quite often. 😊
The library used to be the St Lawrence infants school (ages 5-7). I went there. Happy memories! Until the age of 4 we used to live in a flat in the now demolished Stretton House on High Street opposite Cunnery Road and that view of the graveyard on the left is one of my earliest memories (from our kitchen window.) The cub/scout hut is opposite where you turned right down into the square at the end of the walk. As a cub, I well remember waiting at the corner there, sitting on the worn stone and iron rail stile (now replaced) entrance to the churchyard - and daring/scaring ourselves a bit by going into the churchyard in the dark! My father was an architect and I remember going with him up some scaffolding on the front of the Longmynd Hotel when about 6 or 7 - very scary! - when he was doing some work there. (Mark Eaton)
@@RichardVobes Thanks for the information. I love your channel! I suppose I'm looking for somewhere that offers a country life, but isn't too isolated. Shrewsbury seems nice I do love York, but the countryside properties near there seem a little 'pricey' compared to Shropshire. Thanks again!
Yes! Yes! Yes!!!! Church Stretton - finally an ancestral hometown!🤗 Stretton & Church Stretton is what is listed for my Thynne (Botevile) line. Up until Sir John Thynne (my 11x g-grandfather) built Longleat Manor in Wiltshire (which I'm still hoping you go visit) - he & 12 more generations show birth & death records for Stretton & Church Stretton. Back to the year 1150. I saw at least 2 cemeteries & kept hoping if only you would step in & read a headstone or 2...
@@RichardVobes wow interesting. So other than Church Stretton I guess for now it will a toss up which of the Strettons they (& those the married) came from. Have you done vids on these other Strettons - I didnt see any w/ those titles in your list?
Lovely that Richard. Your still photos are really nice as well. How did you get the photo of that bird in the tree ? What camera are you using and what was the zoom.? Whenever I want to get photos of birds I'm not quick enough... but that looked like a good zoom lens has been used. David
David Keel Hi David. It is an oldish DSLR Fuji camera. Not brilliant really with a zoom lense but just good enough at 1080p. I do want a better one with more manual features but it will have to wait a while.
Oh right. That's great. And it stayed there for you which is good. I know what it must be like being restricted with a camera so I hope you get your ideal camera soon . Thanks for the replies Richard. I do love the still images you add to the videos. I know it doesn't get mentioned much. All the best, David.
What a gorgeous church. I am in no way religious but I do appreciate the stunning architecture of churches. Thanks for another great video Richard!
Thank you both for the nice Sunday stroll Richard! Enjoyed the history of the area that you relate too. Oh .... thank you little Lola as well!
Lily GG So pleased you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
Great walk , enjoyed that. Haven’t been to Church Stratton for years. Thank you.
A lovely little place indeed.

Another lovely video Richard. There,s something special about that rare quietness of a Sunday morning walk.
2006travers Thank you. I do like quiet early morning walks.
Church stretton is a gorgeous little town...great video
Thanks so much. Hoping to explore Long Mountain soon!

Thank you Jim, I try to keep the quality up as best I can in such grim light.
Really enjoyed that walk with you
John Small Thanks very much
my hometown!
And what a lovely place it is!
OMG same!! 🤭
I know this place well Richard, it's refreshing to hear someone who knows of its Roman history. I was born not too far away in Chester and used to come here quite often. 😊
I can't say I know too much of the Roman history but there was quite a bit happening in the area and it is worth looking up for sure. :)
Another enjoyable trot around a place I know well - thank you. Did you know you missed the fabled Sheela na gig?
FrothNinja I didn't know that. How terrible of me to miss it!
Frightful!! I also miss things of which I have no knowledge - an awful habit of mine. :-)

Thanks so much for all those memories and history.
@@RichardVobes I live in rather flat Horsham now!
I like Shrewsbury and was considering moving to Shropshire, but it does seem very quiet in Church Stretton!
Very quiet in Winter, but busy during Spring and Summer with tourists and walkers I should think.

It is a lovely place. Sorry for not reading headstones.
There are three Strettons in Shrewsbury.

5mins 13 seconds, turn into Cunnery Road and there is my son's red car and his white van. 😊

David Keel My pleasure. Always happy to respond.
Nice video but there is no “O” In Shrewsbury!!
This is a big bug bearer no no for people that are from Shropshire makes us cringe
Not once ever heard anyone call it little Switzerland
Haven't you?
Stretton means Street town
Bettws-y-coed isn’t pronounced Betsy-coed, but is pronounced Bett-oose-uh-Coyde
Oh dear
