I visit here and pass through here on a regular basis. Bridgnorth has to be the most Beautiful and fascinating towns in England and a must see if you visit Shropshire.
Absolutely! Lovely when the sun is shining. Thanks for watching!
It was great seeing my old home town again.. Lots of interesting facts... I really didn't know Hitler wanted to make Bridgnorth his UK base if he had won... Can't blame him, it is a very nice place to live. There are so many interesting facts about Bridgnorth that you missed, but for a brief walk about, you did a grand job. Thank you both & Lola :-)
Thanks Steve - yes we missed plenty, I know but it is hard to cram it into a gentle lightweight walk. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Fabulous video, my Granddad was from Bridgnorth, I visited some years ago, used the venicular rail, but didn't have much time to explore, I did get to the Castle. My Granddad and his family were from the lower town, he and his father were groomsmen. Another relative and his wife ran the public house in the high town.
I had my first bridgnoth visit this year wonderfully place so scenic and nice friendly peaople and not far from Ironbridge by public transport
Another brilliant video from the Vobester. Great having Harriet and Lola along.
Thanks very much Scott.
Thank you for this. We will be staying in Bridgnorth in July in a cottage on Cart Way. Travelling from the North East of England. After your video we are now really looking forward to it.
I see Lola the pooch was not the only old dog in this video exploring Bridgnorth with the previous squeeze, the delightful Harriet.
I must say, it's one of, if not the best video you have made.
It was very interesting seeing you walking through Bridgnorth as this town is where I was born at the cottage hospital. I was born on 13/09/1967 . I have now moved to telford
Good afternoon, we took my eldest grandchild there, she was terrified to go on the, cable bus lol quite, strange because I was too, but wasn't saying x anyhow, it was a lovely day, one of my favourite days out.. Loved Bewdley still get the odd week end there.
Such a beautiful, historic, & interesting town. So great to see the outdoor market being used as it had been so long ago. Also, Lola, you are a star.
Ah yes, Lola is the star!
Brilliant weather! Brings the colours alive , I will add this to my upcoming trip!
It is a lovely place to explore.

Nice to see Bridgenorth again, In 1959 I did my Square Bashing there at the RAF Camp which I think is now an Industrial estate. A Hell of a lot of shouting and balling was the significant feature there! It did me no harm at all and I enjoyed my time in the RAF short though it was.
What a lovely town! Beautiful buildings, coblestone streets, all the flower gardens & boxes. And of course you being so knowledgeable in all the history. I especially loved the tram ride at the end - how fun!
The funicular, as they are called, are fabulous.
Thank you both and Lola ❤
I love how this town combines lots of plants with beautiful historic buildings.
Such a lovely place, I agree.
Very enjoyable, I shall have to visit, loved the Georgian houses and unspoilt layout of the old town, from a long and far away English expat.
I lived near here in Claverley for 15 years. It’s a lovely town. Beautiful. The market hall is in an Italianate style. Town hall was built in 1652 I recall. The walkway is called Castle Walk.
I left in 2017 and miss it every day. Now I live in ugly Lancashire. All red bricks and roof tiles. Yuk.
Great video. We're in New Zealand and moving to the UK next year. Looking at Shropshire for a holiday destination during the summer. I think this video has convinced us 👍
Matthew Whalley Thank you. Lots of lovely places to visit!
My father did his RAF basic Training in Bridgnorth in the 1950s
Just went last week after visiting Ironbridge. Lovely old town.
Good video about Bridgnorth. Thank you Richard
Great Another brilliant video from you Richard, Thoroughly enjoyable, wonderful place Shropshire and Bridgenorth are fantastic places to visit, thanks
My dad did his R.A.F national service at Bridgnorth. He came from Reading. It must have been quite a culture shock!
Yes, I bet!
Was stationed at Bridgenorth for 6 months as a Police Cadet back in the late 60's - had to travel daily 'free of course' from the Police Station in the Main Road down the funicular to Low Town to a Solicitors on the other side of the bridge.
Nice to see the old place hasn't changed that much.
Oh what an interesting story. Thanks for sharing.
THERE IS NO E IN BRIDGNORTH!
One of your best Richard, packed with local history, interesting architecture and a stunning view from the High Town, really makes me want to visit the place. And the cherry on the cake for me was Harrietts use of the slang word "Gopping" which Ive not heard for "Yonks" ;) Thoroughly enjoyable.
Hahaha - so pleased you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for your lovely comments. I will tell Harriet about her 'gopping', she will be thrilled!
Gopping never heard of the word what does it mean?
@@philcordwell9560 Here you are Phil,
Adjective. gopping (comparative more gopping, superlative most gopping) (slang) Ugly; disgusting.
Thanks , l feel my tongue just gone a pot hole.
@@philcordwell9560 😂🤣
Nice to let RUclips play onto older videos after watching your current shows. Funicular on my to do list as a result of this video. We're off to a Thomas Telford creation, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct shortly, to which we may have a family connection. Thanks for the videos.
Yes, the market hall in Shrewsbury is an eyesore, but the market itself is very good.
Nice town abit small. No modern shops but there is lots of independent shops which are different. Good night out and good market.
Bridgnorth is somewhere I've visited often since I was a child. Its a favourite for those living in the neighbouring towns and villages. Its a beautiful town, with the river Severn running through it. The funicular is fun to travel on. Seeing your video brought back many happy memories for me. Thanks Richard. 😊⛵
Loved the walk, especially the lovely trees. I can imagine hanging a hammock and dozing off for a siesta - Tony
i used to live here now i live in chiang mai thailand i miss this part of the uk i dont miss the cities so much
No I don't like many of the bigger cities, but the villages and countryside is ace!
Brilliant video Richard, you should go exploring more again
Lovely video. Thank you. ❤
Yet another great video made all the better by Harriett and Lola helping with the presentation. Keep the videos coming. :)
Mark Webb Thank you for your kind words Mark.
The windows in the church of St Mary look very much like the ones at St Alkmunds in Whitchurch!
Absolutely fabulous and fun it's like you accidentally surpassed yourself
Fascinating!
Thanks Stuart. :)
Hi went there today! We love having a walk around the top and through the park. We walked through the market place today. Didnt buy anything but like the oldy worldy atmosphere. You have lots of facts we didnt know thank you! Nice to see pre covid a bit.
Thanks, Kaz - yes preCovid - those were the days!
Spot on video. We visited Bridgnorth last year but will now go back again because you have opened our eyes to all of its delights. Thank you.
That brings back memories of our holiday in Shropshire, many years ago. We sat and had
our lunch in the Castle gardens.
What a lovely place to have a picnic!
Lovely! I lived in St. Leonard's Close (newborn to toddler) in the late 1950's in a huge Georgian house that was an army hiring.
Earliest memories include a neighbour who kept rabbits for meat in his cellar, and a woman happily married to an Englishman. She had fled Germany as a refugee, and was struggling to gain citizenship years later, my mother recalls.
I love Bridgnorth. I live about 13 miles from it. Amazes me how so many people live locally but don't know the place. Thoroughly enjoyed your video, and several others that I have watched recently.
ive been here along time ago when i was at school, went on the seven valley railway from bridgenorth to kidderminster,,a steam train and a wonderful journey
Sounds like a great journey Dean.
NO E IN BRIDGNORTH
One of your best Richard, making Bridgnorth look like a great place to visit. And the bonus was I learnt a new word...'Gopping', Google helped me on that one though, I will now use it and baffle my friends and family.
It is one of Harriet's favourite words! - So pleased you liked the video - we had fun making it!
I've only just come cross this video exploration of Bridgnorth, it's most informative, thank you Richard.(love Harriet's poochy companion Lola too) I feel so blessed, as it's pretty much on my doorstep, so I shall visit it through fresh eyes thanks to your input. I used to live in Shrewsbury, between 2009-2012 in Darwins historical back garden, Darwin Street, I loved living there, & miss the iconic oldy worldy architectural buildings.
Another great vid Richard.
Hello Richard Vobes (The Bald Explorer). This is an excellent video. And Bridgnorth is simply a beautiful place. Thank you for uploading.
Good Video, We stayed at the Golden Lion pub (next to the Northgate) which is hidden by scaffolding in the vid, the older buildings are in lower town and the Severn Valley historic railway is a 2 minute walk away, Great weekend break destination.
Thanks so much for watching and your comments.
Fascinating (as always). So informative and entertaining. There are some wonderful places in Suffolk, (Orford, Aldeburgh, the unique Thorpeness, Dunwich with it's long history, and of course the beautiful Southwold). Thank you.
Phil Homes I do truly want to get around different parts of the country more. Thanks for comments.
lovely video Richard
How lovely ,I’ve only driven through from Worcester so now we must pay a visit it looks Very nice .
Thanks for the tour 👍
Bridgnorth is a wonderful town, but in the summer it's jam packed with people from the nearby major urban areas.
Thank you
You're welcome
Nice place!
You missed out the Severn Valley Railway :O
That's beautiful. I am watching from Bangladesh
Thanks so much.
Thank you, Richard, Harriet and Lola for an outstanding video.
Thanks Graham - we enjoyed this one! :)
I lived in Bridgnorth for a time and I always visited until I turned 7 and moved to Australia in 2011. The last time I visited was the last time I went to the UK in 2017.
Lovely short film. Enjoyed it so much, that I want to visit the town.
Definitely worth a visit!
Very professional vid. Great information and quality. The angle of that Castle building is amazing.
really nice video Richard beautifully filmed and interesting, Bridgnorth looks a charming place
Mark Sellwood Thank you Mark. One of the better ones.
Hello Richard, I lived in high town to avoid my house being flooded as can happen in low town. :-)
Great video! So many interesting sites.
Thanks Julio.
Pretty place. Went there when I visited the SVR. Must take a few hours from Sussex.
Bridgnorth is very pretty and historically fascinating. I grew up in Kifderminster, which is at the other end of the Severn Valley Railway line, so visited often as a kid. It's actually very intact as far as Midlands town are concern, having survived the 60s pretty much unscathed. (Pity the same thing can't be said for Kidderminster!) There are cave houses all over this part of the world, including restored ones in Kinver that were on Grand Designs, and one in Wolverley that is hidden behind a typical Victorian brick facade. There are times I wish I could afford move back but I don't drive due to disability and it's a very difficult life in small town rural areas where public transport is nonexistent if you don't have a vehicle.
I love the caves - they are fascinating - thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you for the informative video 👍🏻 it led to a beautiful walk in Bridgnorth and we knew exactly what we need to see and how to find it 🤓
Great video Richard thank you,we are going to stanmore hall touring park tomorrow for 4 nights, which is only a few miles from bridgnorth looking forward to it.It looks a lovely place
Great historical knowledge - you must spend a long time on research. That walk along the top of the ridge looks wonderful. Thanks for a fascinating wander through the town.
Simon Brown All in a day's work! Thanks Simon.
Enjoyed this video very much - such a pretty town and looks like there is a lot to explore!
Definitely!
Great quality video. You've inspired us to plan a trip there ! LOLA is gorgeous.
Well worth going. Thanks for watching.
Agree with the comment below! Also enjoying the peripheral views of the architecture.
Thank you Sue.
Thanks for the great videos and the bit of history. More of the views please.
More to come. :)
Another good video. Waiting to have a trip on that railway when time allows. Went on the Severn Valley, many years ago. I would also like to have a walk round, after seeing the caves as we drove through. Both churches looked interesting.
It is a fascinating place.
Nice video, beautiful town, definitely on my must visit list.
Wel wroth going for the history alone!
Amazing.
In bridgenorth my dad works on the SVR aka seven valley railway I have the best dad in the world
How wonderful !
There is no e in Bridgnorth!!
Quatford is south of the town, apparently nthe site of an temporary Viking settlement
The most beautiful town in the England's most beautiful county. It's also my home town I was born in the Infirmary, christened in the congregational church then spent the past near 70 years everywhere except Bridgnorth. I live in NZ which they tell me is the most beautiful country in the world. It's not.
Loved it
its a pity the railway trackbed north of the tunnel has been built upon blocking any reopening through to ironbridge.
Thay looks like a lovely place mate. Think I would fit in in downtown. Lol
Why so? I am sure you are top notch! :)
Well done like it.
Fabolous
I like the multi-hued brick on that old market hall. Wonder if the toy shop has model kits and model trains?
I was there forty years ago. Isn't there an old gristmill that has the largest iron water wheel in England?
Lovely polished brass in the funicular
Oh yes - you cannot beat the pride of polished brass.
Bridgnorth born and bred, and glad I don’t live there anymore.
Another interesting tour with all the history. I will have to look up more information about Bridgnorth
Sabrina fair ! flows under Bridgenorth where the funicular flows up and down every day (except Christmas day)
How delightful!
THERE IS NO E IN BRIDGNORTH
Reminds me of Quebec City in the province of Quebec in 🇨🇦
I have never been to Quebec. Sound lovely!
Lots
Lots of what?
you should check out the Time Team episode filmed in Bridgenorth.
james reece I will. Thanks :)
ruclips.net/video/s8o1yhCNpXg/видео.html
Morning all.... Richard my friend.... singular and plural..... do you not know the difference??? Lol!!!😅
That's not fair! You do not site where and when and what context.
just FYI, the northgate is fake, it was constructed far later than the town walls, and has nothing to do with fortification, its decorative.
Lovely video Richard, but it’s SHREWsbury not SHROSBURY
Came here twice in 2005
I live here
Good for you!
That leaning castle keep was on another video I watched a few years ago, can't remember if it was time team or not, will have to look it up. This town seems to love hanging baskets, I'd love to have the watering concession! One of the things I've noticed is that the British seem to think letting their cats roam about is okay. Has that changed since you made this video?
I live in bridgenorth
Good for you! Lovely place.
Anything is better than Ludlow
Could do with out the dog and the snorting. Interesting town.
