When I was a player in a Waterdeep: Heist campaign, we pretty much abandoned the entire questline just to roleplay Inn-keepers once we were gifted Trollskull Manor. We had rat-races in the cellar and Scarecrow bouncers to take out the drunkards :)

That's good to hear! I've always enjoyed systems like this that allow for personal player progression, can be very satisfying.

Tales Arcane, I’ve just let this short play on repeat for a few minutes while I worked. Your voice is perfect for working! Thank you! 😂❤

My players asked me to set up a system for them to craft with monster parts and other ingredients, so I did a bunch of research, including watching your videos on crafting, only for them to decide they’d rather not when they got back to base - I was beyond devastated - I’ve got it in my back pocket if they change their mind - it’s also linked to the current arc, so I guess if they don’t pursue it, there may be in game complications - such is the life of a DM 😅

Ahhhh that's rough, mate! It can be quite frustrating feeling that you put your heart into something that doesn't then get put to use - but you certainly didn't waste your time! You've got that system in your back pocket, as you say, and one day the right player will come along for it. In my games only one or two players ever get really into crafting, but for them, it adds so much to the roleplay and to their sense of progression. When that player shows up you'll be ready 💪

My tabaxi apothecary healer artisan teamed up with the eladrin to learn all about making medicines, potions and the like. The first field research early campaign was pinning out a young black dragon that attacked the party in a swamp. We tried to negotiate. Not so much.
Tabaxi started a field journal to learn all about monsters and dragons. One of the party asked what each part was and what it did, and use it for. When got to the kidneys, "what are you those for." Oh. Those are for the pie later. Ha. The player turned green.
We got to the bard's home-swamp-town and had a bbq with the dragon. Alkali soaked the acid out enough for just a hint. The Party had a party. Good times. Winding in at 5 year campaign. The troll and ted dragon studies were tough. Made all sorts of fun potential potions

I have developed an intricate crafting system too.

Thank you for this! Currently running a Freeform adventure campaign. I think adding this in will help incentivize the players to gather and craft on their journeys, adding more personal value to their loadout.
