Thank you Mr. Pete for this series and the channel content as a whole. I haven’t had a shop teacher in nearly 25 years. Just a treat.
Thank you very much
Mr Pete love your vlogs / rants / stories / your a very wise man. Keep up all the videos. Your the best,Inspiration and Hope in these crazy times!
Boy I've really missed those old shop cartoons! That was worth the extra credit! Thanks Mr Pete!
That’s me!! I’m the guy that told you about those square to rounds.
I’m famous !! Hahahah
PS
I use to have a Sheldon EM56 lathe, me and old timer rescraped the ways and painted it to perfection. Held .003 in 36”
Put it in storage and it was stolen with a Bridgeport mill.
Never met anyone else who got robbed of 5,000 pounds of machine tools.
I just love your channel, your voice is very relaxing.
Yes, you are now famous, Thanks. That thief must of had a big truck
thank you mr peterson for sharing the memories of your brother, his work and the scholarship, i personally know how a little help can make a difference in the life of people and how much they appreciate it. i fear govt agencies too and only people who had the lovely experience know. oh and now i have a name for that emm hobby he. take care. :)
Mr.Pete, loved watching this, asked your son how you were doing. He directed me to your RUclips channel. Glad to see, you're still into the things, you've always loved!! "I use the term loosely". One of my favorite quotes, from my AWESOME, high school welding instructor Mr.Pete❤
Good to hear from you. I enjoyed having you in class. Somethings never change
“Protecting a person who had been very good to you.” That’s what you did. That is one of the most honorable things I’ve heard in a while. I try to live by standards like that myself. You’re a good one Mr. Pete!!!! Don’t ever stop!
Thanks
That used to be almost a given back in my day, kinda like "you don't bite the hand that feeds you" even a dog was smart enough to figure that out. However, in today's society, it's is all about "me" and not such loyalty.
I agree it’s becoming a lost piece of character. I agree with you. That’s why when you see loyalty today like Mr. Pete’s it sticks out a mile.
That was a very nice tribute to your brother, Mr. Pete. The little figure you showed was really beautiful.
Good morning, Mr. P! 🌄☕I've got on my shop clothes & all ready for class🙋♀️🧰🔬
Hahaha! O wander
Greetings from a wet and windy West Cork, Ireland. Another great video Mr. Pete. Keep up the great work.
did the wet run off ? i had to shove it out of the way with the tractor here in PA this morning
Your like a grandfather to us all mate love hanging out in the workshop with ya always something to be learned I've never cut one of your videos short dont know what we'd do without ya
Thank you very much for joining me
Thanks for the information and all
that you do for us, the public.
You will be remembered for many
years and that is a good thing.
Stay well my friend.
BUY SQUARE HOLES!!! Still learning after all these years. Thanks for the info, Mr. Pete.
If I made my living doing something for thirty years and knew every possible way to do it and all embellishments and all the ways to do it wrong, I'd still watch a video of Mr. Pete doing it.
Drink a cup of coffee while doing it, too. Probably write a comment.
Cliff, You sir are a man i want to meet :P making me giggle at 4 am ... KUDOS :P
Well stated. Mr. Pete is my favorite of favorites.
I never miss mrpete.
If you made a living doing something for thirty years and knew every possible way to do it and all embellishments and all the ways to do it wrong, you'd be a perfect youtube commentator.
Happy Birthday Joel!!! 100 is great!
Lyle, it is always a pleasure to listen to you and the knowledge you share. I look forward to every video, Vlog, or whatever you share. Thank you.
Thanks 👍
You help make my day with each of you "Classes" and I do stay for the extra credit, My wife has told me I don't need a new garage with heat as it would get in way of doing her to be done list. I spent most of my working life making chips on machines of all types and ages, But I still like seeing what others do better then I.
Have a nice day and I will be in my seat for the next classes.
That is awesome!
I helped a contractor when I was a kid dig and open up a hole for a new entrance for the basement of a Catholic Church in Amboy. That had to be in the early 90’s. It makes me wonder if guys like that even take a kid along to help and to also learn. I know it got me out of the house and I enjoyed it. I also am sure the contractor enjoyed sharing and passing down his knowledge.
I’m not a machinist but enjoy channel for the technical tidbits and your grounded disposition. Thank you, Tubalcain. Peace!
Thanks
I very much appreciate the likes of you and your family. Hard-working, self-made genius's. Very admirable.
Thank you very much!
Afternoon Mr Pete, my new to me Harrison 140 is arriving in the morning, I'm rather excited, known to you as a Clearing model u believe, and to further my anticipation I'm watching you Sir, thank you for taking the time to share
I share your excitement
@@mrpete222 Thank you Sir, to be honest I've more questions than answers with the lathe, I'm sure we will share many Happy years together though.
Always interesting Mr Pete combined with a bit of humour 🇦🇺🦘👍
Wow, that knee mill 3D print as a gift,,,and a beautiful crafted piece,,,Off subject, the LeBlond 17 we bought last Saturday has me still over whelmed in beauty and size. Having to sell off my SB 9c was difficult, and now someone else will get to enjoy. (1936 SB). Loved the VLOG.
Sounds great!
Hi-Ya Mr.Pete, I don’t ever recall you “ discussing a rant” but what I felt a bit the same way. May the memories of your Brother bring a smile to your face and a giggle to your lips. It sounds like you and him followed in you Dads footsteps......... there’s a lot to be said about “ the apple not falling far from the tree”
Mr Pete, your videos are the best. That's why they go viral .

Lyle, thank you for you excelent videos of machining and your rants about this and that. Always entertaining. To those not informed about cold casted bronze or similar powder metal castings, you could tell that the material is about 90 per cent metal and maximum 10 per cent urethane or epoxy. The plastic is there as a binder and a binder only. It should only cover the metal powder whith a thin layer enough to bind the parts together. I have been casting urethanes/epoxy of all types for more than twenty years, so I should know.
Your a good man Mr. Pete.
You certainly packed a lot of content into that twenty minute video. I always enjoy them. Your brother’s artwork is truly remarkable as is your own. Being aloud to grow up a free thinker is one of your many gifts. Tsondoko, what a great word. When I discovered the magic of books I became hooked and have also accumulated hundreds of them, mostly technical. When I discovered what I could learn from books it was a revelation, it always put me a step ahead and opened my eyes to new things. Keep up the good work my friend and be well.
Thank you very much
I always enjoy your videos and vlogs Mr Pete thank you
Mr. Pete, the article about Jan, your father and you sums up the legacy of fine people who have touched the lives of many young folks through the years. Very commendable. This country is in dire need of young men and women willing to work in trades of all types. Too many are being led to believe the way to success is in an overpriced liberal arts degree only to find the only jobs they can get are as Starbucks barristas and such. Thanks to all the technical teachers of the world.
Mr. Pete, You have some of the greatest followers. I follow you because you are so interesting and I'm not a machinist but a woodworker.
Your brother is mist by many for sure.
Cheers, Lee
Awesome, thank you!
Last year I was looking for an 8tpi acme nut. Greenbay Man was the only one I could find on the internet. The price wasn’t astronomical and the lady that helped me was very nice and very helpful.
I recall a company in Greenbay that produced heat treated and rolled 4140 all-thread rod in standard sizes. It was a high strength, quality product that we purchased to make special length studs for milling machines.
Hi Mr Pete ☺, as usual some very interesting stuff, that printed stainless steel knee driver was amazing, I didn't even know that you could print metal, we live and learn, lol. Thanks for the video, looking forward to seeing the next one, stay safe, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart.uk.
Had your brother as an instructor at IVCC, great instructor and man.

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you.
Is it actually paranoia if they are out to get you?
Always love yer vlog rant decompressing or fill in the blank. I still learn something. Thanks!
Mr.Pete I worked for a company from Orland Pk.Il. called Andrew Corp.We did square holes with a fixture on a hand mill. The fixture had a piece that clamped down to a base which had a square guide hole in it.So you would start with a turned part with a hole in it like you would with a broach but used a floating paddle 3 sided blade fed through the fixture hole. You got a square hole with slightly radiused corners.Later I ran Burgmaster NC mills which ran programs on mylar tapes.
THANK YOU...for sharing. Please don't leave RUclips, for so many reasons.
RUclips has a mostly great user interface. It also has good compression for those of us with limited bandwidth. BUT, the management is a bunch of evil low lives and that's the best I can say about them.

My Daughter spent a couple of days in Cody Wyoming about 11 years ago, on a trip from Australia to the US. She was on her own, traveling about and the lady on the desk of her hotel, asked her where she was from and what she was doing and the lady said don´t worry, you are in Cody Wyoming, we will look after you dear. She spent a day at the Buffalo Bill museum.
It's a safe little western town. No politics allowed. America at it's best
Hi Lyle,
If you are using those "square holes" to hold cutting tools, Keith Fenner has used inserts in various boring bars he's made, that come with a grub screw for adjusting the tool. They are a standards item in the US.
Traming the head on a turret mill is not so bad left to right, but a total pain front to back.
I've seen some metal 3d printing in titanium. The printed part was incredibly detailed. Now you need a set of round holes as well...
ACME also sells holes. Wily Coyote used to buy them and put them down in the road to try and get the Road Runner to fall into them.
A pleasure as always Sir.
Keith fenner used them for boring bars he used. He helpped me quite a bit with it for my purposes.
Thankyou Lyle. You're a gem.
Thanks for an informative video......had no idea you could buy square holes for easy installation! :) I stumbled across your channel several months ago and subscribed....I am mostly a woodworker, but I worked for a major manufacturer for 30 years and became interested in machining.
Welcome!
I've heard it said that "Liberty is not having the power to do what I want. It's the power and ability to do what I should." A lot to think on there.
Howdy Mr. Pete. I have tried several times since you first mentioned the "myheap", to download and extract the files for the floating drill press vise, that one extracts empty files. Thank you for all your videos, love them.

Mr Pete.... you'r phone or computer will read to you even if you can't see.... I have used these and other methods to teach myself to speed read currently about 13 to 1400 words per minute and I find that the speed actually helps understanding and retention.... last year I read 126 books in my spare time..... the illiad is on my list for this year .... and when I watch youtu.be videos I watch them at 2x speed and wish they had 3 thru 6 or more speed....I really wish I had learned speed reading in grade school it really is a huge benefit and I recommend learning no matter your age.... using the computer reading to you you can read in the dark or when moving and unable to read no normally like driving running walking .... I would rather read or be read to than watch TV.... my greatest interest in reading came about age 14 with TARZAN AND THE ANT MEN .... my father then bought every book in the @24 book series except a couple very hard to find ones..... now mostly I read non fiction .... If only our school systems would teach kids to learn... and think for themselves.... I suggest learning how to get your devices reading to you before it gets worse.... you know it would make a good video to.... there are web sites that will teach you speed reading and this info can be used by all
Very interesting, I didn’t know that my computer could do that. I remember them talking about speed rating when I was in high school
About Rumble… I had never heard of it Until I watched this video and you mentioned it. I just went over and signed up. I did a search for Mr. Pete 2 to 2 and your two videos popped up. I clicked on them and it played a video about the impeachment trial. I clicked on the other one you posted and it played an impeachment trial video. Mr. Pete, I share your distain for the sewer dwellers in that place that everyone hates. I will not go into details because no one cares but I have been harassed unwarranted by them and there was nothing I could do but pay them to get off my back..... Extorsion to the max!!!!
I would love to be your neighbor, you are an awesome human being!!!!!!!!
They have harassed me four times, always innocent. One time was a full audit at my home, he was mad because he could not find anything wrong. As I remember, he was wearing knee boots, jodhpurs, And carrying a riding crop.
@@mrpete222 LOL!!!!!! In 1985, I owned an automotive machine shop and a few years later, sold it. My last employee got his check and I withheld $75. from his check and sent it in to the sewer like I was supposed to. Next month I got a statement from them saying I owed $123. because of late fee, penalty, and interest. I sent them a copy of the check, front and back, where they had indorsed it and a copy of my bank statement where the money had cleared my account and deposited into theirs. Next month it was $250. Numerous calls and driving to three different towns to meet with their agents, all of them saw the check with their own eyes, and still every month I got a bill that was much bigger than the last month. Threats to take my house and everything I owned came in the mail and over the phone. I went to work after selling the shop and of course they took with holdings out of my check. Next year when I filed to get back what I had over paid, they kept it to pay for what they claimed I owed them. This happened for 3 years and they stole over $20,000. from me. I may not be very smart, but after that I figured out I was stupid for letting them get my money in the first place. Maybe I shouldn't be saying this but they haven't got a penny from me since. I researched and learned what the law was and I have obeyed the law but I never allowed them to steal from me again.....
Mr. Pete I hope this isn't something you don't want on your channel, if so tell me and I will gladly delete it!!!
This is just one example....
@@dannywilsher4165 Hey Danny! :-)
@@Daledavispratt Well hello Mr. Dale!!! Nice seeing you over here! When you going to make another knife? You probably already made one and just haven't uploaded the video.....
I saw the thumbnail & title of that video & I skipped it. I thought you were going to use a square broach which ToT already did. Surprised on hearing you say it got 500k+ views, I searched back & watched it and I'm glad I did. That was a great video & technique. (I don't think you'd get those 500k+ views if you used a square broach lol.)
I agree. His approach was clever and I wouldn't have considered it on my own. The weak point is the halves attachment, but this can be easily modified with stronger attachment hardware if space allows.
I made a square hole in aluminum using a single point broach fashioned from a broken carbide end mill. I used the mill quill for the broach stroke, stepped cut strokes with mill X and Y control and locked the spindle so it wouldn't turn. It worked, but it was tediously slow.
The IRS story sounds interesting. You should tell us some day.
I’m sure I told that a horror story in one or more videos. The IRS loves it when people tell those stories. It really helps the Nazis with keeping people fearful and compliant with the harsh tax laws.
Great content again Mr Pete.
I wonder if tsondoku also applies to all of the RUclips videos (many are yours) which I've started to watch, but stopped and saved for later viewing?
Yey! My comment to the previous square hole video was useful to someone! :-) Nice.
About your eyes: If it is cataracts, consider getting the surgery where they replace the foggy lens with genuine plastic. I had gotten to the point I couldn't read a Vernier. Had the lenses replaced with the latest version (over a year ago) and I see better now than I have in many years. I don't need glasses because the plastic lens is hooked into my eye so it is moved with the same mussels that do it naturally. Highly recommended. I'm 78!
Have you had an exam by a specialist to determine if you could be a candidate for cataract surgery MR Pete ?? I also had both eyes done & I now have close to 20-20 in both eyes
I'm 44 years old. Still fighting and kicking. And worked most of these machines.
I appears I now have a diagnosis for the piles of book I have😉. I’ve got stacks of shop manuals for most every car I used to own but don’t now. Never know when I’ll buy another one😜. I didn’t watch extra credit but I agree with what I didn’t watch. We’re losing freedoms and common sense ☹️
Quick comment on Burgmaster...I have one in the shop where I worked that needed replacement. Rather than buy a used one on eBay, we reworked the existing one. Let me tell you that that machine was nothing but quality throughout. The repairs that were made were superficial and it is again running like new.
John,
I had many hours repairing and maintaining Burgmasters from the small manual machines to the larger automatic machines to the full CNC machines. Our CNC mills were purchased in the mid 1980's. These were built during the last breath of Burgmaster. We later purchased new Burgmaster manual machines after they were built in the Orient. I was in the Los Angeles plant for maintenance training when we purchased the CNC machines. Our plant was flooded in 1993, and the Burgmaster CNC mills were replaced with new Mazaks.
Our shop was very loyal to Mazak, so I have vastly more experience with Mazak than Burgmaster. I have never ceased to value the contributions Burgmaster made to the development and application of the geneva wheel. In my decades of machine repair, I have never felt more affinity to any other mechanical design. I have encountered fascinating complex engineering that works well, but couldn't endure the way that Burgmaster perfected the geneva wheel and related mechanical designs. Their designs were intuitive for the repairman. First time encounters were easy to assess and repair. Their employment of tapered alignment pins and sockets with allowance for wear meant decades of production with no intervention and no deterioration of machine accuracy.
When I retired in 2017 one of our 1960's vintage automatic turret drill presses continued to crank out drilled and tapped holes all day long. I was occasionally still in contact with a very aged former Burgmaster employee that sold new old stock parts from his home. His operation was so simple that he had no provision to accept purchase orders or process simple invoices.
Burgmaster was a high volume production machine even in the basic D-1 design. I still see them pop up on our local Craigslist, but there are few practical applications for the home shop user. We equipped our manual machines with Tap-Matic heads to speed up the tapping step. I could rant on for a long time about this company and my experience with them and their machines.
@@paulhunt598 Paul, I haven't had as much experience as you, but I do appreciate hearing from folks that realize the quality of these old machines. Our shop also replaced the Burgs with CNC...but, whenever the CNCs broke down (which seemed very often), the old Burg was put back in action with no issues whatsoever! It also gave the operator a meaningful feeling when operating the old machine. Thanks for your feedback...much appreciated.
I'd appreciate a video on the use of those square hole sleeves. I'm thinking loctite them in but would there be an application where threading one would be useful? Would press-fit work? Guess you could pin it if you didn't need a through hole. The prices are reasonable and much cheaper than a broach.
Love me some green loctite, sleeve locking type. Good friend of mine taught me how to use it when installing rivnuts.
I noticed the head tilted in the other vide and was surprised. I’m sure it will be edutaining to see you true it back up....
Very interesting video Mr Pete

I use to work at Chamberlain and I knew Eric, I didn't know he was your son. He was on the residential side while I was on the commercial side of the business. I have Chamberlain patents also, they are very big in protecting their product, actually one of my patents helped kick Roybi out of the garage opener field.
That’s awesome, you work together. Thanks for watching and commenting
Love watching Mr Pete tips and videos and also search them for reference material. He refers to emailed queries and I have one but I cannot find an email address. Where does his address hide?
just followed you on rumble and started watching what you have on there, YT is going to eventually ban anything that isn't a make up tutorial
I've checked out rumble but didn't care much for the interface really, but I do keep checking it out to see if it's getting better.
Strangely I just watched some of the old videos like square holes and micrometer stop just a couple days ago. Was surprised that they then showed up on a vlog.
And if rumble doesn't censor videos why are your videos waiting for approval? Is not approving a video different from censoring it? I'm not sure I've ever seen an engineering and fabrication video that could be considered objectionable anyway.
Nothing wrong with getting wound up. I find myself doing it often.
Thanks for another entertaining video. When I saw the title I figured a box of square holes would be a good thing to have. I think McMaster Carr sells those also. I was tempted to buy some once and resisted. Not sure why I resisted these would come in very handy making boring bars..
