In episode 151 of PG Radio, we engage in a conversation with Ami Ganatra and Kushal Mehra. We discuss religion, the concept of God, Hinduism's complexity, "Dharma", morality, and the relevance of ancient texts like the Mahabharata and Ramayana.
Ami Ganatra is an author and scholar specializing in Indian epics. She has written "Mahabharata Unravelled" and "Ramayana Unravelled," where she explores the depths of these ancient texts and presents their lessons and stories in a clear and accessible manner.
Kushal Mehra hosts "The Cārvāka Podcast" and is the author of "Nastik: Why I Am Not an Atheist," a book that explores Indian atheism and dharmic skepticism. His podcast and book provide deep insights into philosophy, politics, and culture, making complex ideas accessible to a broad audience.

Man! This is the level and quality of Indian / hindi content that I live for. I remember years ago I used to watch debates on such topics done by foreigners in their context and I used to think only if such depth was present in modern day Indian discussions as well. Happy to see it happening!
It’s always been there. Their voices were systematically silenced over d centuries. Some with laws, some with cancellations or even intimidation, threats, and death. Farwahs were one of those means.
People that searched for answers and whom loved doing their homework however, always sought them out. Some of them survived d onslaught and kept working in silence and did record their works.
Prob is society didn’t protect them. They glamorize paper heroes that have been brainwashing them and eating away at the fabric of their homes and societies. Eventually it’s always comes down to d behavior of d society. If u appreciate real things u will b able to preserve and grow, otherwise society/country deteriorates. Nothing lasts without active and constant maintenance. Especially freedoms.

I'm hooked to this. Damn Ii couldn't look away. Ami Has defined Dharma So beautifully, It personally has given me tremendous clarity over my own life.
She defined it based on the Vedas.
This is what a conversation should look like!! Great video Prakhar bhaiya, keep bringing in such great people!!
my favorite podcast till now J Sai's ANI podcast.... Now this is #1....
I can't believe we all are watching and listening to this, finally these brave souls are telling us, the things we never learned in our school books. the underlying narrative to instill a sense of inferiority complex and self loathing which was drilled in our minds is being undone. We need more much more like this.
Hindu : a term used to encompass 6 schools of philosophy, that gives freedom through adopting the ultimate way of life... no dogmas.
You are the master of your life not a slave to rigid pathways.
So what is special about being a Hindu?
1) Believe in God ! - Aastik - Accepted.
2) Don't believe in God ! - You're accepted as Nastik
3) You want to worship idols - please go ahead. You are a murti pujak.
4) You don't want to worship idols- no problem u can focus on Nirguna Brahman.
5) You want to criticise something in our religion. Come forward. We are logical. Nyaya, Tarka etc are core Hindu schools
6) You want to accept beliefs as it is. Most welcome. Please go ahead with it.
7) You want to start your journey by reading Bhagvad Gita - Sure !
8) You want to start your journey by reading Upanishads - Go ahead
9) You want to start your journey by reading Purana - Be my guest.
10) You just don't like reading Puranas or other books. No problem my dear. Go by Bhakti tradition.
11) You don't like idea of Bhakti ! No problem. Do your Karma. Be a karmayogi.
12) You want to enjoy life. Very good. No problem at all. This is Charvaka Philosophy.
13) You want to abstain from all the enjoyment of life & find God - jai ho ! Be a Sadhu, an ascetic !
14) You don't like the concept of God. You believe in Nature only - Welcome. (Trees are our friends and Prakriti or nature is worthy of worship).
15) You believe in one God or Supreme Energy. Superb! Follow Advaita philosophy
16) You want a Guru. Go ahead. Receive gyaan.
17) You don't want a Guru.. Help yourself ! Meditate, Study !
18) You believe in Female energy ! Shakti is worshipped.
19) You believe that every human being is equal. Yeah! You're awesome, come on let's celebrate Hinduism! "Vasudhaiva kutumbakam" (the world is a family)
20) You don't have time to celebrate the festival.
Don't worry. One more festival is coming! There are multiple festivals every single day of the year.
21) You are a working person. Don't have time for religion. Its okay. You will still be a Hindu.
22) You like to go to temples. Devotion is loved.
23) You don't like to go to temples - no problem. You are still a Hindu!
24) You know that Hinduism is a way of life, with considerable freedom.
25) You believe that everything has God in it. So you worship your mother, father, guru, tree, River, Prani-matra, Earth, Universe
26) And If you don't believe that everything has GOD in it - No problems. Respect your viewpoint.
27) "Sarve jana sukhino bhavantu "(May you all live happily)
This is exactly the essence of Hinduism, all inclusive. That is why it has withstood the test of time, inspite of repeated onslaughts both from within and outside, and assimilated every good aspects from everything .
That is why it is eternal. There is a saying in Rigveda , the first book ever known to mankind which depicts the Hinduism philosophy in a Nutshell -" Ano bhadrah Krathavo Yanthu Vishwathah"- Let the knowledge come to us from every direction.🙏🙏🙏🕉️🕉️🕉️
Thats the beauty of our meme and we must protect it
Don't spread wrong information, Hindusim do not
Accept Atheism
Love your content
Because we are always agnostic ...
We are seeking to try to find out what is the truth..
So we have different paths which we say panth...
So we can evolve ourselves..
But doesn't it become so large an ideology, that everything is inside it. So, you cannot even criticise it. Because there are so many interpretations. It's like a dictionary with words that have no single meaning. Then the concept of dictionary somewhere starts failing.
Kushal and ami are despite coming from different point of views put up such an amazing discussion for us to watch. Truly amazing
I was waiting for it. I'm very excited to watch this.
5:32 Happy to see Prakhar getting Ads to support his channel.💝💝💝💝💝💝
bro he has mercedes.. i think we need ads to support ourselves🤣🤣🤣
This is, so far, one of the best..Keep delivering this type of content, bro.💗
Ami and Kushal...thank you so much for clearing a lot of my long standing doubts.....🙏
Man the intro was only sooo lit🔥🔥.. an astik and nastik sitting together and non of them contradicting in any absurd sense... It's just that both are in sync like opposite ends of a coin...
This can only happen in India...
I guess this is the true essence of Bharat as well..
My family is full of people who follow different ways in sanatan Dharma and we do have these kind of discussions. For sure we dont use these sophisticated theories but we do debate on the existential questions, contexulisation of Dharma etc. I really wish they do it in Hindi language so that i can show this to my parents. It is like our dining table discussions.
You are so right. And I think being born in a Hindu family is beautiful because we all are following our own way of hindusim where basics might be same. My dad is a huge believer in Lord Hanuman. For my mom a specific Ideal doesnt matter she would pray in a general manner. For me I feel the same that IDK there is God or not I believe my hardwork will take me whereever I need to be and some things will always remain beyond my control and I ackowledge my religion privilage in India I love my festivals and believe in traditions even though I might just do it for the sake of my family, and again agreeing with you, this conversation is so damn good that I would love to share this with my family.
Kushal and Ami combination is perfect for such discussions. More of these podcasts
For all wanna be Atheists- read Vedanta, Charwak philosophy (materialism), read Nastik philosophy, read Nasdiya Sukta (Rig Ved) which is totally agnostic, read Adwait (non dual philosophy), Dwait (dualism)... Read your own scriptures before becoming a slave of jokers like Dawkins. Hope you all get the point. ✌️
People are not atheist bcs they read, they do it bcs they want to stand out, they want to feel better than everyone else, mostly a position driven by ego not knowledge
read ashtavakra geeta it sweeps all questions altogether
Abe ghochu aise toh bahut sari kitabe har religion mai hai. Tu padh le Bible ya Quran Christian aur Muslim bhi bolenge ye padh lo pehle fir tumko Para chal jayega. Toh kya tu padega kya word to word line by line. Woh log bhi bolte hai har cheez mai context padho jo ye kushal mehra ka bhi argument hota.
@@varunkhugshal9049not really. Atheists become atheists because at the end of the day, like Kushal said, the god question is meaningless. The existence of a god/ gods/ primordial being makes no difference in people's day to day lives. What makes a difference is how people try to use their gods supposed authority to define moral frameworks that run societies through rituals and traditions. Some frameworks adapt but most don't and end up making people's lives miserable because of rules that make no sense in present day. It puts people off and they become atheists.
@@varunkhugshal9049 Have you ever properly sat down with a atheist and talked to him why he thinks the way he is thinking?
And where you pulling these assumptions from? Very interested in why do you think like this about atheists!

I absolutely love that your podcast doesn’t have an intro
What an amazing discussion! This is like one of the best 88mins I have spent in a very long time. Only thing that I felt that there was some structure missing as the conversation progressed as they ended up talking about same points on multiple occasions but it was an eye opener.
I wish this video was published during my college days because that was the time I had the hardest time believing in religion and would have helped me make better decisions and stopped me from doing some rebellious things but it has been helpful nevertheless.
Maza aa gaya Prakhar! truly the debate we deserve...Thank you!

Great podcast Prakhar
I enjoyed this conversation, but actually the point of divergence is where I expected the discussion to start from. Hoping for a part-2 more detailed analysis into how a Charvaka Nastika sees this world and its contrast with that of an astika or even other nastikas(Jainas and Buddhists).
Also, loved this format where you act as the host of a debate leading a flow of discussion. Please make this into a series with different contrasting views on different topics coming together and debating it out like old times, vaada and samvaada. This would definitely need more research on purva-paksha of both side from you, but I think you are diverse enough to pull this off. I won't (atleast for now expect) this from other podcasters, but you and a few others(who are well informed and take out their time and efforts to research) can really do this. This can be a genre/channel in itself separate from 2 people conversation style podcasts you generally do.
14:23 bro had guts to say that without hesitation
That level of confidence ❤
Excellent conversation
Finally.... You did something called masterpiece.... According to me it's a discussion not a debate....
Bombbbb collabb🔥🔥🔥
Great podcast......just a suggestion- it would be good to see all the faces of peoples in a frame so we can see the reactions also.
Very mature conversation.. that should be the level of each student coming out of college education ❤🔥🤩

Debate is a process that involves formal discourse, discussion, and oral addresses on a particular topic or collection of topics, often with a moderator and an audience.

Interesting discussion. But I found Kushal's discussion more interesting because he also shows perspective of not caring whether there is god or not.

Bhai I've just watched till 5:30, paused and came here to comment that i feel i have already consumed content equivalent to 1 whole podcast of TRS. I love how Prakhar hosts podcasts.
This is most intellectual podcast I’ve seen so far
16:06 I think Prakhar's definition of "narrativization of history" for itihasa is correct. Although A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones doesn't have reverence or a religious/metaphysical element/worth to it, so might not be the best analogy, but Mahabharata for example is to perhaps the Battle of the Ten Kings(or some other historical conflict that serves as its nucleus), what ASOIAF/GOT is to the Wars of the Roses.
As always Kushal Mehra is brilliant . Ab bas ek cheej karo Vimoh who talks about modern day atheism and kushal mehra ko saath laao discussion ke liye , that'll be so so great.
Such a wonderful podcast, ✨️damn good interaction
After listening people likes of Kushal, Anand Ranganathn, J Sai Deepak, Abhijit, Ami Ganatra, modern business entrepreneur, & respective many more . I believe our educational system needs a one additional subject would be called( Bharat Mandapa) respective all their relative fields to produce better intellectuals for our indian society. That itself revaluation and modernise our structural and cultural belife of Bharatiya systems.
I really enjoy your videos kindly add references of the books atleast add the names on the screen whom they refer. It would be really helpful. If you have transcripts that would be awesome

good one
Both are amazing , both are making there sense with there word but I just want to add some that the debate which always going on within god and atheist is never ending . and best part is both are not capable to prove that argument whether god is exist or not but ya I also liked the way he said that there ia nothing to do with others faith
1:24:48 Ami won the debate according to me , example of meditation is damm perfect , Karmic Cycle is true ❤️
If you are hardcore practising hindu then you must listen kushal...i followed him more than 2 years...i can assure you that you'll get some knowledge .❤️❤️❤️

Saying if religion is true or not doesn't matter because religion is inevitable.
That's an illogical statement.
Bro the entire society is working on that. You yourself said that. If you are assuming something false to be true then good luck trying to do anything with it.
Death is inevitable so don't cure your wounds.
I don't know where to start criticism of this statement.
Just because something is inevitable doesn't mean we should not see if it is true or false.

This people don't have gut to debate anyone.. they just want to run one sided narrative without any counter argument
She talked so much and I paid all the attention i could and i tried to apply everything I've learnt as a philosophy graduate....and i swear to god she made no point. She is providing a functional and utilitarian view by saying things like "Bhagwan hai ya nahi hai, mere liye to hai because it makes things easy for me."
God can't be explained in words, if you try to, noone will be convinced, like if I feel pain, no one can feel my pain, and I can not make them understand my pain or feeling, or no machine can measure the amount of pain. Like God is something which can be experienced with love, surrender, belief and bhakti, there is no logic to comprehend the very existence of God, it only be experienced by oneself
@@sarbajitroy9614 Sure. If they are accepting that it is indeed merely her belief then they should stop projecting it outwards into politics, economics, social issues.

OK bohot din bad maja Aya.
I'm 23 but let me tell you something, kushal bro is right. I've got to same conclusion 3 years ago
At 1:13:35 Kushal is misrepresenting Taleb's concept of Lindy.
Lindy Effect says that the future life expectancy of any non-perishable thing, like technology or book or idea, is proportional to its current age.
Eg: If a book has survived and stayed relevant for 200 years, then by Lindy effect, its future life expectancy is 200 years.
Lindy effect does not say anything about the idea being superlative or amazing. It's just a heuristic for the expected future survival rate of non-perishable items. It is probabilistic in nature, not prescriptive.
This is best video watched, this has all what we (Bharitya) needs as basic intro or knowledge. I want one more participant a guru (who realised self) like Shri M, Sadhguru
