Exactly what I needed today!! Chattanooga half this Sunday 💪🏽. I did an easy 1200m swim/25 bike/6 run as my last workout. All spread out throughout the day with nice rest in between. Planning on doing 2 swim sessions this week. Straight 1600 meters during a 30 min session. Do y’all recommend any light workouts the day before the race or maybe just stretching? Thanks for all the great content GTN! I’m ready for game day 😎. Btw.. decided to get a pair of ON shoes too 🤙🏽. Love the ones y’all wear. Went with Cloudswift, so I’ll have to do some test runs before using them on a race.
I remember reading about the local college American football team (Oregon Ducks) and how they went from a walk through practice the day before the game to a hard/full speed work out, but not as long as conditioning work outs. They seemed to do better with getting to the point of full speeds, but not to the point where they wore themselves out.
Really interesting video. I have to imagine that when doing a pro event these workouts are great ways to measure your anticipated performance. For an almost 50 year old like myself, doing my first Olympic Tri in August this is just way too much - two weeks before the event I’ll train as normal, and just taper off the last week, continuing to swim, but at low effort to keep myself fresh. Sure, I have a time goal, but without having done the distance before, just finishing is first priority.
1:08 for 100m, off a turnaround time of 1:15 or 1:20. Meaning a recovery of 7-12 secs. I would only normally be about a second quicker in 25m versus 50m pool for 100m
With regards to the test set, wondering for a 70.3 why you would not simply do 1900m continuous instead of 20 x 100m (or 19 x 100m) if you are going to have so very little rest in between each 100m?
What workouts do you follow in your race build up?
Whatever coach tells me to do. 🙂

Day prior - I will do a meet warm up as a workout.
Main set either
3x100 @ 1:20 or 25 hitting pace
Or usuall
6-4x75 @ 1:10 hitting pace
1200 - 1400m

Could you guys make a video on how to properly taper for full Ironman? How long before and what kind of workouts on each discipline?
We have this video all about Taper's here, check it out 👉 gtn.io/WhatIsATaper
Were the times you were mentioning in the beginning (1:08 on 1:20) short course meters?

@@markthrelfall3577 thanks! We are still backwards in the US swimming mostly in SCY. I assume you were front pack most of the time?
@@trbeyond I was, but with the way the short course tri swims are going, I reckon I would struggle these days

To make it a little easier, allow rest
