2021 GIBSON LES PAUL TRIBUTE REVIEW | Gibson's Best Value Guitar??

- Опубликовано: 30 сен 2024
- After being in the market for a Les Paul and comparing many different models, I ended up going with the Tribute series from Gibson to my own surprise!
Is this the best Gibson guitar for the money?? At half the price of the Standard, can this guitar still sound and play like we expect from a Les Paul?
Let me know what you guys think of the guitar in the comments and which model you think ranks best for the money!

Nice licks & great demo. I’ve been playing 55 years and just got out of 63 days in the ICU on a vent. I bought a tribute because of its light weight & just got it today. I bought the lightest weight one I could find, a little over 7 lbs. considering I had to learn how to walk again and my right hand is a little paralyzed but it’s all coming back. My fretting hand remembers everything! Acoustically my guitar rings like a bell.
Hope your better
Keep rocking dude
@@Chris-ng9vz, i’m getting there.
Get well soon mate
Glad you're getting better, and congratulations on getting a phenomenal guitar. One of the best values in the guitar world, IMO.
Get well, glad you got the guitar
This is one of the reviews that tipped me over the edge to buy one. Thank you for your time to do it. I already have a 22 year old standard and recently got an SG tribute that is excellent in every way. I didn't really need a LP tribute but now it's here, it is a keeper and is fast becoming my favourite guitar. It looks superb, it's playability is simply amazing, setup out of the box was totally spot on, and it totally rocks through my Laney tube amp. The poker chip...yeah come on Gibson just fit it! Had to remove the washer in the cavity to get enough clearance on post, but job done and it looks better for it. I think the tribute series is the best value from Gibson in a long time, and rest assured this is a Les Paul through and through. I think the trick when buying one of these, or any guitar is to use a reputable dealer. Mine came from Peach guitars and nothing goes out their door if it isn't perfect. For 999 British this is one very happy owner. Yep honeyburst for me...
Glad you liked the video! Great to hear you like the guitar! It’s also one my favourites I’ve ever owned 👍
Purchased this guitar a few months ago and it quickly became my favorite. Good clean tones and crunchy dirty tones. And definitely looks better with the poker chip imo.
Gotta check it out
I agree. I saw two of these things at two different stores today and neither had the poker chip. I figured I would just deal with it. But it's a nice surprise to find out they put it in the case for you!
The lack of binding is refreshing and gives it a cleaner look.
@@American-Dragon cleaner look for sure. But I do like the binding...of course we got the option now to get a non gloss with binding...I still wouldn't trade the tribute.
I have exactly this model too, love the classic finish and the simplicity, the pickups sound great. It's a fantastic offer from Gibson after many years of crazy options.
I agree! 👍😁
@@jamierobinson777 ..... yeah even Darrell Braun from Canada is getting healed of Gibson disappointment ..... ruclips.net/video/5TENtcgL2jk/видео.html
Killer vid, and monster playing, Brother!! I just subbed you. I bought this exact guitar 3 or 4 years back, and boy did I get lucky. They had just come out. Mine has a lot of gorgeous wood grain / figuring. But same color, and it was selling for something like $899 brand spanking new. Also - it was on a super sale week-end... and so I think I ended up getting it for $799 if I'm not mistaken. Plus - I traded a couple of lesser guitars to get it, so I walked out the door with the incredible instrument... for like maybe $250 bucks. It SMOKES!!! Killer guitar.
Thank you! Yeah I'm very happy with mine ☺
The selling point for me is the price and the satin finish
I saw an Murphy R8 for sale today for 1300 euro's, I didn't even want it, because I have a tribute just like yours. Binding drives me nuts. So many overdressed Gibsons out there. Nobody can see that stuff anyway. It's all just vanity. I think these honey burst tributes look as good as any of them. Not real mad about the other colors though. They do look a bit funny. At least until they get the paint broke in someday. It'll look like a 1958.
Thanks for the amazing review! Was looking at one of these used for 714 dollars and this sold me on getting one.
They are great value guitars. Every bit of tone that the higher end models have. What amp/modeller are you playing through? Sounds great.
Absolutely! They really are an amazing guitar. I’m actually plugged straight into GarageBand using their guitar presets that I tweaked a little. Thanks!
Hey Jaime, I just found your video here while doing some research reviews for the tribute guitar. THEN I NOTICED EDDIES FRANKEN STRAT ON YOUR SHELF! : ) I started playing guitar because of Eddie, and i often hear that i sound like him in some ways. ( im very proud of that, but always try to keep to my own unique style ) I think its my sound most people are referring to, and i do love eddies earlier sounds. So im not going to humble down on those compliments.. Even eddie went away from those earlier sounds a long time ago. I dont know why? I think out of all his "sounds" those were his best.. but that is my own feeling.. ANYWAY... I started out with a strat copy with single coils, then got into gibsonesque type guitars with humbuckers, but always was annoyed with the MUDDY SOUNDS OF THE MAHOGANY AND ROSEWOOD WOODS.. Too bassy, too muddy, not enough detail and articulation, and they all sound very "spongey"... : / I HATE IT... SO THEN I GET BACK TO STRATS AND PUT HUMBUCKERS IN THEM! MODIFYING AND CUSTOMIZING THEM EACH ONE AT A TIME, WHEN I REPLACED ONE.. I dont collect guitars, i just use ONE.. BUT.. I really dont like the HORNS on the strat! I know this is silly, but i just dont like them.. The strat though is very comfortable and so easy for me to play, and the woods are exactly what i like to hear when im playing.. The alder body, and the maple neck with the maple fretboard, makes it very clear, articulate and punchy, which is the main part of my sound.. SO WHAT IS MY POINT HERE? : P A little conversational writing should be ok right? WEll, i really do like the " LOOK" of the les paul.. But They dont make one the way i would like one.. And i saw this, and it has a semi hollow body ( they call it a "weight reducted" body ) but that is important.. It should make it more comfortable to play and hold for hours of playing. And It has a maple neck! ( i dont like the sound or feel of the rosewood ) but it is what it is.. Listening to your review i know you like eddie, and i know you tried to get some "super strat tones" out of this guitar.. I havent had a chance to play one yet which is why i am looking at reviews.. BUT YOU HAVE SHOWN ME JUST NOW THAT THIS IS JUST A SLIGHTLY BETTER VERSION OF ALL THE OTHER LES PAUL AND LES PAUL TYPE GUITARS.. AND THOSE CHROMATIC RUNS SOUNDED SO BAD TO ME! NOT YOUR PLAYING, THAT WAS GOOD, BUT THE SOUNDS OF THE GUITAR.. NASALLY, SPONGEY, MUDDY.. I HATED TO HEAR IT! ITS THE WOODS! YOU HAVE A THICK PIECE OF MAHOGANY ON THE BACK, THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE HOLLOWED OUT TOO MUCH.. WHICH MEANS THOSE MUDDY TONES ARE STILL GOING TO BE DOMINATE! AND WITH THAT AND THE ROSEWOOD FRETBOARD, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET ARTICULATE, CLEAR, PUNCHY, TIGHT, SOUNDS... THE PICK UPS DIDNT HELP EITHER! I THINK YOU CAN IMPROVE THE SOUNDS MUCH MORE WITH BETTER PICK UPS.. MAYBE EMG 81 AND 85 PICK UPS ( THE OLD ZAK WYLDE SET ) THEY ARE VERY CLEAR AND ARTICULATE, PUNCHY AND TIGHT.. BUT.. THOSE MUDDY WOODS.... : / IF I DID GET THIS GUITAR? I WOULD CHANGE OUT THE PICK UPS FOR SURE.. BUT HOW DOES IT FEEL? IS IT REALLY THAT MUCH LIGHTER THAN ALL THE OTHER "LES PAUL SOLID BODIES"???? DO YOU KNOW?? I WOULD KNOW IF I CAN FIND ONE TO CHECK OUT IN PERSON.. BUT THERE ARENT ANY MUSIC STORES WHERE I LIVE TO DO THAT... IF YOU GET A CHANCE? GET BACK TO ME AND LET KNOW HOW HEAVY OR LIGHT IT FEELS? PLEASE AND THANK YOU IN ADVANCE! GIBSON SHOULD START MAKING ALDER AND MAPLE GUITARS! : / WAKE UP GIBSON! IF YOU SEE THIS? ITS ALL SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT "SOUNDS" AND THE TOOLS TO GIVE MUSICIANS TO MAKE THOSE SOUNDS! NOT ABOUT COLLECTABLE NAME SAKE MUD BOXES! : / OK, LET ME JAIME...
Hey Jamie I have this one too and I agree, awesome guitar. Just curious, do the intonation tuners on the bridge face the neck or face out? Lots of debate on this
I bought a used tribute (iced tea) 2 years ago $750. I’ve owned an EJ artist, Clapton artist, Performer HSS and Player SSS strat, and a player tele. This fills Gibson vacuum nicely, no desire for a higher end Gibson, when I want the LP sound, it does the trick.
I took the poker chip and the pick-guard off. Everyone has their preferences.
It is Excellent to Play Rush Songs with !!!!!
Sooooo many are saying this. Even against the Studio. Professional reviewers are all surprised for the bang to the buck.
The poker chip not installed has to do with the finish, I guess it can cause problems with fresh NCL if it were to sit in a warehouse for a long time after production, so not installing it is just giving the finish more time to cure.
Good to know!
I'm having a difficult time refraining myself from buying a Tribute.....and this video didnt help. Lol. I have a Studio and an SG......but this Tribute model just wont get out of my head. I believe its due to it simplicity and straightforwardness. I want a Gibson Explorer next.....but i doubt I'll be able to avoid buying a Tribute. They're just so cool!
If your Les Paul and SG have mahogany necks, it could be worth getting a Tribute just for its quartersawn maple neck. I've found it has better tuning stability than any other guitar in my collection, and a distinctively brighter and snappier tone than many other LPs.
@@ConvexSpade my 2006 Epiphone Les Paul Custom Zakk Wylde Camo Bullseye has a maple neck and i really like it. Its a surprisingly great guitar in general.
dude i just to one in eipi less paul special addtion crimson red with p90s i'm loving mine
Thanks for introducing us to this beautiful Gibson. I wish it was blue. I need a blue Les Paul. Please introduce us to a few must-have pedals you endorse some time.
Also, kinda has natural binding with that translucent finish
You kicked some serious ass on that beautiful guitar. I don't think there's a better value in a guitar for the money.
Thanks! I agree, definitely amazing value!
I have the same model and color. Swapped in a hp harness and "61 burstbuckers. It's amazing
You left out it has a maple neck like a lp custom...more punch and presence
I have the same, also in honeyburst! Also put the switch washer in..
Have you managed to get round the nut issue? The G is really sticky and never stays in tune. Maybe coated strings, or nut lube?
I’ve tried some other ones besides my own and it seems like the nuts are cut differently on all the ones I’ve tried. My Low E is definitely resting higher than it should but I haven’t changed it. I don’t have any tuning issues with the G string (surprisingly) but it might need some coating or to be cut differently.
No idea why they stopped gold top tributes and ones with p90s
I want one! Throw some zebra pups in there with the poker chip and reflector knobs and you have a lp "classic" for $1000 less
absolutely
Thanks for such a fantastic review of such a gorgeous guitar. Can you a similar review for your miniature Frankenstrat 😁
Thanks Todd! I want to do a review of the real thing!
Great Demo, playing and sound. Be good to know what amp you're using also as this was one of the better "good sounding" reviews. I've got a tobacco burst arriving soon !!!
I was just plugged into GarageBand directly. I want to make an updated video for this guitar having owned it now for over a year because I think I like it even more now 😂 I’m still so impressed with it every time I pick it up. That’s why it’s been in all my recent videos 😂
I just bought one last night, and waiting for it to ship.
Great review! I’m seriously considering purchasing that same guitar…..
Is the neck thin (60s) or thick (50s) Gibson website says rounded I don’t know what that mean (noobie here)
I personally think it's probably in the middle somewhere. It's not too thin but also not too thick. To me it's perfect for a Les Paul 👍
@@jamierobinson777 thanks 👍
I bought mine in 2012 when they first came out. Satin finish. Baked maple fretboard, modern weight relief body. Plekked neck. It was the 50's tribute model. There was a 60's and a 70's model also.
i just ordered another one in honey a few minutes ago , and praying . shipping these days is like shooting craps, lol
best of luck!
How did it go?
Great tones. What amp and rig did you use?
I’m happy with my studio, i got it cheap
I got a 2018 gold top. Literally stumbled upon it. Im looking for a 2017, that year was the holy grail for the tribute.
I’m going to buy one 🤘🎸
As for lot of others things, the simpler the better
It's a crap shoot with the tribute series🤨👍
Yeah great demo and smokin playing!!
Thank you! 🙏🎸
I have a 2011 LP Tribute Goldtop with P90s. The guitar gives a nice growl and looks great too. The P90s are really good
Very nice!
I appreciate the review I picked one up a month ago. Sick licks by the way. Fan from NC.
I got same one and colour and love the satin finish only thing I’ve done is pull out electronics and put in 500k CTS pots and Gibson braided wiring and in neck put a .177 bumblebee lux and a .22 black beauty lux in the bridge and a set of zebra slash signature pickups and man it’s killer
Great playing and review agree these gibsons are awesome
格好いいですね!!6:26〜のリフどっかで聴いたことあるのですけど、誰の曲ですか?
What amps are you using ?
Is it as good as a Les Paul standard? Probably not. Do I want to buy one after watching this review. Absolutely!
Great guitarist
Thanks!
Good selection of demo playing on different settings. Would have liked it through a wah-wah too (CryBaby etc).
Thanks! Yeah that would have been a good idea!
I've got tobacco burst coming Friday wow it sounds great
Nice! That colour looks great!
that's my dream gutair
Does this have the maple neck?
Great demo of a nice guitar. I bought the same one too after I sold my Les Paul Standard. Mine really came to life once I had a professional set done on it. I love the look of it and I love how light it is compared to the Standard. I do prefer a gloss finish on a neck but I have many other guitars to play with as well. The bottom line is these guitars sound great, look fantastic, light weight and priced right for me. Great playing as well my friend. Keep rock'n
Aww man I want one now. Tried one out the other day and loved it. Not a big fan of the pickups since I’m a high gain player but the overall feel and quality makes me not even care about the pickups
how heavy is it vs the gibson sg?
I just bought one last week. By far the least expensive Les Paul I have owned, but quite possibly the best one.
I have been on Stratocaster Island and been lovin the vibes. This Tribute Honey burst was something special. I Love the Honesty of the sound that is propelled out of this cool chambered Axe
thank you for the review I just got my self a cherry sunburst is so beautiful it feel absently wonderful and the sounds woooow super classic
That is a wonderful sounding guitar. Well balanced.
Did you try the Epiphone 1959 limited ?
No, I haven't!
@@jamierobinson777 I’m stuck in between the Gibson Tribute and the 1959 Epiphone 😐 I had a Gibson Les Paul Studio that was terrible and a U.S.A. SG that was terrible but I’ve never had a terrible Epiphone 🥂
@@scottanderson4175 I should try one. Usually the higher end Epiphone stuff is great. I’ve been more than happy with my Tribute. It impressed me a lot more than I expected when I first checked it out. I was looking at the Classic but this just felt better to me.
@@jamierobinson777 yeah it’s just me in my living room so I guess I can get a Epiphone and a amp for the price of Gibson 🥂
NIce playing and cool tone! Hard to believe the tone is thru Garage Band.
Thank you! Yeah it has some great sounds!
Wow! That is the best demo I have heard on you tube of this guitar. I have heard comments on youtube where people think the Bass isn't as ballsy with the weight-relief. Which I think is very Psycho-sematic more than reality. What do you, Jamie, and others here think of the low-end punch of this guitar?
Thanks so much! The bridge pickup is pretty bright sounding but since I'm not such a purist, that's something that can be evened out with EQ from the amp or recording set up. But I do find the tone is exactly what I was wanting from a Les Paul 👍
@@jamierobinson777 Thank you for responding, Jamie. Well, pickups can be changed that's for sure. Or as you said, some intelligent use of EQ will go a long way. So, I guess what I'm really asking is, if you strum this guitar unamplified, does it resonate well, and the warmth and depth is still there?
Excellent review. You sound great
Thanks! 🙏
Great review and demo. love the playing. how's the neck? i heard the neck is rounded and a bit chunky. wanted to try the guitar but there's no stock at my local store.
Thanks! I actually love the neck on the tribute. It's not slim but it's not too thick either. It's what I wanted for a Les Paul feel.
And the finish on the neck makes it play SO smooth!
I just ordered the same one. I received mine today and I am very surprised that the quality is actually very good. Some people have complain about the poker chip not fitting around the threaded barrel. You need to open the backside cavity and remove two washers. This will make the poker chip fit just nice. My amplifier Has not arrived. That will be Monday. I can’t wait to hear this baby. The strings are a little low so I’m wondering if I should work on the neck or raise the bridge. Opinions please.
Nice! Enjoy!
@@jamierobinson777 Please read my edit above. Thank you.
@@dr.stevenpennym.d.3241 Nice! Yeah I had to raise the action when I got mine. The neck was good so I just raised the bridge a little.
@@jamierobinson777 if you don’t mind, can you please tell me how to do that? I’m a hell of a surgeon I’m humans, but not on guitars. Your help is deeply appreciated. I’m very happy with this guitar so far.
@@dr.stevenpennym.d.3241 Yeah there's two pole pieces attached to the part of the bridge that the strings sit across. You can adjust them on both sides using a small Allen Wrench.
Yo buddy it's usually the first scratch on new stain better to let it cure first mine went on after 6months perfectly Les Paul
Amazing review and test man!
You just made me to order one.
Thanks!
I bought one and I really like it but I really am not a fan of the frets on mine…they are so small and skinny and I find it harder to play than my Korean Schecters
Great Demo !!!!!!
First time in a long, long time that I've had my mind blown! You're an excellent and surprising guitarist!
Thank you! 🙏😊
Serious chops my friend, some nice skills there .... 🙂
I’m loving this demo! Killer tones and licks! I just picked up one of these guitars and think that the only way they could improve it is to ad coil splits on it. I’m definitely impressed with it and think this puts Gibson back into a good light because this is a killer guitar & it’s not a “beginner” guitar. I’ve seen some big professional musicians using it at well.
Hey nice guitar. What amp areyou connected to? Are you connected to any software. I am considering this guitar or the Classic. I have the Les Paul Studio. Awesome guitar. I am trying to try them next week. I' m from the Beatles, Stones, AC/CD, Sabbath Zeppelin, Greenday era!
I'm plugged straight into GarageBand for all the guitar tones! The guitar plays and sounds great. I definitely think it will give you the right tone/sound for your influences!
I own a 2018 model. Those were slightly different than the newer ones (no weight relief, 498t in the bridge) and it holds its own against my Traditional and my Standard. So much so that I actually bought the LP Special Tribute as well. You really get a whole lot of guitar for the money with these things. My Traditional will always be my baby but my Tribute gets more than enough attention. Great video, man!
Thank you! Yeah you're right, you get a lot of value with this guitar!
Nice demo,i've got the 2018 no weight relief and mahogany neck. One tip,if you want more warmth you could do the wrap around on bridge.Nice playing.Cheers.
This guy plays guitar..
Love mine that identical to the one in the video! Thanks for the inspiration. Only " miss" IMHO is that while it plays very nice, the bridge is really jacked up on the low E side. I am thinking a bad setup..
Just treated myself to a 21' Tribute, deal was too good to pass up. Was aiming for a high-end Epiphone to get back into playing but happy I splurged. Might be taking you up on your private lessons, outstanding playing sir.
Nice and simple review. Thank you. I was thinking to get high end Epiphone but now I should probably save a little more and get the real thing.
Yeah I would definitely get this over an Epiphone 👍😊
Thanks for this video, I think the tribute looks awesome. I agree I like the toggle switch washer; I am also a big fan of the pickguard. I know some players don't like pickguards. I do!
Yeah I like the pick guard as well! You could remove it for that Slash look but I'm going for more a traditional look with this guitar.
@@jamierobinson777 yeah my guitar heroes all had pickguards. Ace Frehley, Randy Rhoades, Neal Schon, Steve Lukather, John Sykes. I don't think I could have my LP's any other way.
I did not know you had videos other shorts. Lol
I never noticed you play this guitar in a lot of those shorts. Good review!
I have been wanting a Les Paul and after this review I want to go play one of these to try it out, thank you!
Excellent review Jamie, thanks man, I'm sold! Brilliant playing too, covering all styles. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! 🙏☺
Wow.. great!
Is it American made?
Yes it is!
Nice review man 🔥How’s the tuning stability especially for G string???
great video
Do you think these pick ups are good for heavy metal rhythm or do you prefer the hotter ones in the studio
I realized that I don't have a switch washer on mine after seeing this video and immediately got in contact with the shop I bought my Tribute from. They provided me with information that these don't come with the switch washers in the case... They even confirmed it with their Gibson associate. Great video anyway!
That’s strange! Is your guitar a 2021 model? Maybe it’s only with those models?
Mine came in the case and it says on the retailers website that it does. It just doesn’t come mounted.
Either way, you can buy them for a couple bucks if you want to add it on 👍
The poker chip/switch washer definitely comes with these brand new. So either the store misplaced it or Gibson forgot to put it in the case candy bag. Another possibility is, sometimes inside the gig bag they get kind of hidden down in the storage compartment and you can't see them, so if you haven't, feel around in there to see if it's there. Either way, they definitely come with the tributes new.
@@j_music_8779 . . check goody bag pocket on that high dolla soft case
I’m going to have to try one now :) Great video !!!!!!!
Thanks! Let us know what you think!
I received my Gibson less Paul tribute today. The frets are a mess. They were both high and low and all over the place. The guitar tech said it was a dud and needed a lot of work. I guess Gibson guitars are back with poor quality…
Sorry to hear that! Hopefully you can get a different one that is set up better!
Cool vid. I really like the tributes. Play and sound great!
Excellent demo!! you're a great player!
Thank you!
very helpful, thx for doing this
After your little demo it has made me a Tribute buyer.
Just ordered one! Was still wondering if I'd done the right thing. This demo drove away the skepticism. 👌🏿
Nice! I love mine :)
old dad comes alive at 6:27 !!!!! sounds awesome
😂😂👍
Just bought one of these and love it.
Nice tone, nice guitar, nice playing! You did it justice! Personally I think I would like the Classic more. Because I heard you talking about those having a thin neck, and that's something I would like. I think the pickups on the Classic are hotter too, and the push pull options are great. And I really started to get into the open coils on the Les Paul. But still, yours sounds and looks impressive.
Thanks! Yeah I thought the same. I was sure I was going to get the Classic. If you're looking at a Les Paul I would suggest trying this one out because it's really nice! The classic is of course a great guitar though!
@@jamierobinson777 A few years ago, this model came in a gold top one, for only 699 euros at a local store. Till this day a regret not buying it.
Do these have PCB wiring?
Nice one! I love the look of the natural maple top.
Thanks! Such a great guitar for the price!
Great review & very nice playing
Thanks so much!
Probably the best review of this guitar I’ve seen so far! I sold my 2007 Les Paul Standard after 12 years. Could not stand the sticky nitro finish anymore plus it did sound quite a bit darker than this one. I am thinking this might be a better guitar for me with its satin finish. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed! I find with the satin finish it's hard to put it down once I start playing! :)
