Good point about not getting emotionally attached to a weapon. Here in America a lot of people have guns and only rely on that and never train hand to hand skills or improvised weapons. If I had a dollar for every time someone talked about knife defense and said "oh it doesn't matter I have a gun"....
It's actually funny how many people have that mindset, because a gun is fairly useless in close proximity. The fact is that a gun has limited attack. Most people fear the gun more than the knife. I personally would rather disarm a gun than a knife any day.
@Hernandez10052 very true except for one thing. Guns do require skill and training for effectiveness. An untrained person can do damage with a gun or knife, but training and experience can make a substantial difference in both. I've actually known people that couldn't get rounds on target without a bit of training.
Also they need to understand that guns are irrelevant within 21 feet, 3 yards Which is about the space an attacker enters before making a move Guns are ok at distance
Gregg CovenyMusic I loved Steely Dan but am unclear as to which of their songs you might be referring to. Unless it’s “Bodhisattva” in which case this is one I didn’t recall and appreciate your obvious great memory. I’m always looking to add to my playlist the songs from my prime and Steely Dan had several. Fagan was really great at writing observational lyrics. While this one was brief, I can’t help but wonder if his take back on the rise of eastern philosophy in the west was a cautionary one or if he was enjoying that exploration as many others were. Either way, thank you so much!
You're right about not being emotionally attached to a weapon in a self defense situation. However, in many knife attack situations, trapping a knife is not going to work, as many martial artists think it would in their Kung-Fu fantasy world. In many, but not all of those attacks, trapping the knife is only going to get yourself sliced. So sometimes, you need to keep the kubotan in your hand and with awareness, like if you see a hand in the attacker's pocket or back, you could use a kubotan to stop an attacker with a weapon, like a knife, or a gun if he's within hand's reach of you. You could sometimes use the kubotan to strike the joints or radial nerves on the arm thats holding the knife or the gun. Knife attacks are unorthodox, every situation is unique. So in some knife attacks, a kubotan would be an effective tool to defending yourself from a knife attacker.
true but when you are in knife fight you are bound to be sliced doesnt matter if you have gun up close or kubotan. The most important in the knife fight isnt about not to get cut its about knowing were you can get a cut that doesnt affect your way of the fighting and doesnt do damage to organs. If you can use that to stop the atacker after one or two cuts like getting stab or sliced around the shoulder or idk any area that doesnt make you dead on spot it will give you the edge. Thats my opinion and i think we all can agree with it
Its just an extension, a force multiplier, some more options for pain compliance...you still need to be able to fight. Just like with a club, knife, gun. Sap, monkey fist, brass knuckles, tactical pen, everything. Learn to fight...and integrate your tool. Well said nick. Best advice on kubotans
When he tries to go for his knife while your viciously pummeling him with your kubotan (neck, temples, collar bone etc), then maybe he's the one emotionally attached to his weapon. Maybe then you can take advantage.
I have been in and witnessed multiple street/bar fights etc. I guarantee you all though the kubotan is a highly accurate and dangerous self defense weapon a knife can inflict tenfold the damage much much faster also a knife is more likely to be what someone would be carrying on their person I have seen these exactly 2x in these same real world situations were as knives and even firearms were more prevalent. This does not take away the fact that having one on a key chain can and would most likely save your life in any situation with a well driven strike the perpetrator will loose interest very quickly giving you an escape route. Lastly they are legal in both Canada and in the US in most jurisdictions and are only supposed to be used for real self defense situations.
It probably hurts a lot quicker than a knife, which is IMO the most important thing in self defense. If you want to hurt or kill your opponent, a Kubotan is pretty useless. This provides another advantage: If you aren't in a life threatening situation (a hard brawl or something usually just ends with injuries), a knife or gun would definetly turn it into one. You either kill your opponent (by accident or not) or your opponent takes your knife from you and stabs you. If your opponent takes your kubotan from you, the situation doesn't become more dangerous.
Can be carried as a key chain on the ready and "MAY" not be considered brandishing weapon. A knife small enough for every day carry may slide in your hand cutting you. It's cheap.
You can always add a loop of shock cord and turn it into a koppo stick. That way you can't drop it, and can open your hand for grabbing techniques as well.
thx Nick perfect. ....... my girlfriend started a new business that sells these I think this video will be helpful for her and others always Nick great stuff
Mr Drossos, how "deadly" can it be? If I hit someone in the head 3, 4 times with it, like hammering in a mount position, can I kill the guy? I mean, is it deadly? or can I use it "freely". I own one myself, wear it like a keyring, its tip is not so "sharp", but more rounded. Once I had to use it and hit an attacker with it on his mouth using your "hammer strike" technique, and it was enought , the guy bent with his hands on his mouth, and I legged it out asap. But if someone is bent, and you hammer him with it, could be lethal?
JP CM Anytime you strike another human being it could be lethal! Flesh is weak and the variables in health, pre-existing conditions and the unlikely, yet potential point of impact on the precise weakness in the attackers system is something you can only hope to avoid. A blow to the chest directly over the heart may stop the heart. Any blow to the head can create swelling in the brain, the secondary blow of the head striking a hard object like a rock or concrete when they fall could be worse than the original blow. My philosophy is the same as with firearms, you always consider them loaded and deadly, and reserve their use for only times of absolute necessity. After all other options have been exhausted or ruled out. IMHO
If you are preparing, and not in element of surprise, I think it may be safer to avoid the physical conflict just by showing a glimpse of a tool in hand.
The other thing I like about them over knuckle dusters is that they're easier to switch from one hand to the other. Rather than the opening of the hand, peeling it off the fingers, moving across to the other hand and sliding the fingers back in again of a knuckleduster. It's less fiddly
Do you have time to get into your pocket and then open your folding knife? Most cats pretty quick to deny entrance and then get angry you even thought about it. If you remember Nick said be prepared. Reaching in your pocket isn't being prepared it's a signal you going to attack. I think I'll stand there while you reach in your pocket for a knife. Never happened.
OK. I choose to live a peaceful life. I understand pulling a knife on a man turns the situation into a life or death situation. So you really have to ask yourself is that truly the path you want to walk down. Just sayin'.
Hey Nick. Question: I googled it but I have no idea what you mean "...Force must parade danger..." what does that mean, in the context you used. I tried to find a reference but, what I found related to something different.
*@Daryl it means your use of force as to be proportionate to the attack.* *Faced with one single unarmed attacker you can't pull out a knife (depending on your size).* *Guy pulls out a knife you can use a knife.* *Two or three attackers against will allow you to use weapons, etc.* *It all depends on your local laws but usually you can't shoot a guy in the face if he just slapped you.*
If you’re sparring properly, you have to expect some scratches and bruises. A fat lip, a bloody nose or even a split lip, all just part of training and a good sparring partner. I hate sparring partners that intentionally miss. They’re only practicing and transferring bad habits. Then there’s the additional benefit from proper training, you learn to be less hesitant, less jumpy, or nervous out of fear of getting hit. Which in turn teaches truly proper reach and distancing.
I just got myself a kubotan. I can keep it with my keys in my hand, or on my purse, (with my keys still in my hands-always do when walking to and from places), attached to either by a carabiner (which also has my pepper gel spray on it). Why do you say to let go of a kubotan in a knife fight? A kubotan is better than nothing, as you could potentially still use it for defending yourself. Because as a woman I would hope that I could still jab an attacker, rather than just having my arms sliced up.
AhmA It could be hard to argue it as a keychain now that they have become popularised. Especially if you've been an aggressor or used excessive force. Depends on the country..

Pressure points wont work against and adrenalin pumped attacker, it will just piss him off more and you will waste valuable time on a pointless technique. Also the way you use just one end of the Kubaton means that you are limiting your options.I suggest to people they should get a heavier kubaton without a pointed end and practice using both ends for strikes and targeting bones like the collar bone, elbow and if fighting from the floor, the knee bone or small bones of the foot. These strikes will incapacitate the attackers ability to either strike, grab or chase you....You're welcome.
I would rather use the metal flat head ones for impact. These pointed ones puncture skin and are a one way ticket to prison for actual bodily harm. You could end up doing serious time for inflicting life changing injuries, the flat head ones are better advised.
Basil Monjo of course that all depends on what level of force you can later justify in court. Depending on the laws where you live, your background and training. The level of threat and the amount of force you chose to confront that threat. If all you have in your hand at the time of the attack is a pen or pencil, I wouldn’t throw it away out of fear of possibly going to prison. She’s 110 pounds and petite but a tough cookie, all the haters saying a kubotan is useless if you can’t fight…well personally I’ll be happier and so will she be with that in her hand, god forbid she needs it, to be able to do some damage and back some cunt off with a few wounds to take home
Please why you don't mention the best way to stabilize a kubotan! Simply put your thumb on the top of the kubotan it will stabilize it while you hold it tight!
Why stab the face and head with a Kubotan in a non-lethal situation? Do you understand the damage that they really do?! Believe me when I say that I do.... As for the concept of throwing your Kubotan away when/if a knife is presented, that occurs to me as utter lunacy,......
How would the attacker be able to pull out a knife once you stabbed that kubotan into his throat or face multiple times? That's not a disadvantage man, yeah, do not depend on any weapon, but in all, weapons are great.
What I mean, is that kubotan should be out prior to using it. If an attacker is in range and stabbing, you dont have time to reach for it, your weapons at that point are your best option. Thanks for watching!
president trump The same can be said of any object you use! Depending on where you live and the laws and legal precedents set there. Some have even been charged similarly for simply using their hands, due to the documented history, training, competition, reputation of the individual being charged.
I think when the attacker hold the knife you should use one had to block and use this to stab the hand that hold the knife and after that you will have full advantage (that is only my personal opinion)
DeathToxic Carry a metal pen or flashlight instead, and if it comes to the worst keep in mind to not use excessive force once the threat is neutralized i.e. don't continue hitting to make sure or teach him a lesson once he's down. Atleast thats my mindset, since you can go to jail for critically injuring someone, even in self defense...
Apply any of this advice to an unarmed person and you have a reservation for a 5-star prison for (at least) some years, due to violation of weapon proportionality, according to Criminal Law. You can do better than that, please stay free!
I really wonder Who The HECK really has enough skill and center to defend themselves from a street attack with a Fuckin kubotan pen!! This things a joke man anyone who’s been confronted in the streets know usually your to shaken to do any precision shit.. throw them a glass bottle and run! Or you simply paralyzed in which case get a grip and run. Kubotan techniques need precision you think it’s gonna help a street fight..run..well unless you have nerves of steel I think
***** yes i know but in my country if i defend my self vs an guy and i hit him more times ore break more bouns i will have the problem infront of a judge
Duarte W. O. Obviously there are many variables, even where you live. But the point of these videos (IMHO) is about protecting oneself from an attacker that is intent on doing you bodily injury or death. In which case I would prioritize the threat as a greater concern at that moment. Or as we used to say: ‘I’d rather be judged by twelve than carried by six.’

Hi Jeff thanks, I will be making a video on that soon. Thanks for watching!

Thank you, she can share it to help her sales. Thanks for watching!
Na it's not about sales nick ...you know that ...it's about knowledge and how to use it
Is the circular edge better than that pointed one?
that's just a weak key chain. The pointed end will multiply the force you are able to place onto any point on the opponent
Are these legal to carry in California?
It's surprising how much damage a pocket stick can do.

@Penarick379 P so I should take the one I put on my mothers key chain off then? I don't want her getting in trouble.

Does it seem like this dude is legit crazy? He has the crazy eyes and everything
Just passionate...
Thanks for watching!

you can be charged for carrying an offensive weapon by carrying a kuboton. use a tatical pen instead
president trump The same can be said of any object you use! Depending on where you live and the laws and legal precedents set there. Some have even been charged similarly for simply using their hands, due to the documented history, training, competition, reputation of the individual being charged.
Poor Bob! Lol🤣!
You're having way too much fun stabbing the dummy face. :D
Martial art?
So a kubatan is a pointy bit of metal. Got it. Could be nasty though.
*That's the point.*
Lol, I see what you did there xD
Can you take it to prison when you are sent there?
I think when the attacker hold the knife you should use one had to block and use this to stab the hand that hold the knife and after that you will have full advantage (that is only my personal opinion)
I personally carry one and it has a cheap dull knife hidden inside the kubotan, which I never use.
Eric Thach wow
CR7 Messi I know karate/Kickboxing/some ju jitsu but it's nice to have an extention of my arsenal
Eric Thach yea because many people carry weapons around like knife or gun
CR7 Messi One day, I'll conceal carry when I move out. It's just for my own safety
Eric Thach yes same
They are illegal in Switzerland here :(
Had no clue thanks for sharing!
Zarrell
thank you for your advise
but can a pen really do enough damage? is it better than fighting unarmed?
1 don’t
hhahahahahahaha the fake guy looks funny
You strike anywhere above the waist and you lose in court!
Apply any of this advice to an unarmed person and you have a reservation for a 5-star prison for (at least) some years, due to violation of weapon proportionality, according to Criminal Law.
You can do better than that, please stay free!
The fake target here is saying WTF are you doing to me???
if they pull a knife that's going in their brain
Haha, I love it!
If you hit someone with that, you will go to jail for several years.............................................................
Depending on the situation.
I can personally guarantee this would never work on a guy like me
But will you dir
Dude, you scare me!!!
Why?
I don't know, probably cause it's a little bit violent for me. Here in Spain we don't use this kind of stuff, at least I think so. regards!!!
Omg, you are a sadist. )
Kubotan techniques need precision you think it’s gonna help a street fight..run..well unless you have nerves of steel I think
yes maby in the usa it is okay to penetrade the had from my oponent but hey i live in a normale civilisation
Orpheus lol he lives in Canada you idiot
This is for extreme use. I have a video on self defense and legal implications, Thanks for watching!
Nick? people fucking attack people with that?
Its for extreme self defense.
is not a kubotan
I thought it was a window breaker lol
