- The former Bloomingdale High School teacher who pleaded guilty to secretly recording students in various states of undress will spend 15 years in jail followed by a lifetime on the sex offender registry, according to the sentencing by a Hillsborough County judge.
Mark Ackett was charged with 324 counts of video voyeurism and faced up to life in prison.
Prosecutors say Ackett, a former fashion design teacher and girls track coach, planted cameras and cell phones in a room that students used to change clothes. In 2018, a student discovered a cellphone that appeared to be recording video inside of a dressing area at the school.

Jesus would forgive him without the blink of an eye, just as he'd forgive you or I. We are not the worst thing that we've done. Nothing is 'too big' for God to forgive. We are all flawed. As long as this man repents or feels genuine remorse for what he did in his heart, he will, by biblical standards, be forgiven as well.

I understand what he did was very sick and disturbing. But I've seen YT videos of men going to prison for actually raping women, and the comments there are waaay less angry at the rapist. I don't understand this. All he could do is watch the video's he recorded when he was alone.

Yo, I remember this history teacher from my middle school days who would have the pretty girls stand by his desk and he'd give them snacks and deliberately roll his pencil off the front of his desk and ask them to pick it up and do a eyebrow lift when they'd bend over. We called him touchy feely man and it never hit me just how wrong that is til I was an adult.
I had a gym teacher like that.. we all knew there was something about him that was off but we used it to our advantage. As an adult it's so weird thinking about it and how we just dealt with it..

If any girls or boys want to check for cameras turn off the lights in the room turn on your phones camera flip it to the front or back and look around,most cameras have infrared,if the infrared lights are exposed you will see it on your camera in the dark

There are apps for finding hidden cameras as well. I use mine whenever I stay in a hotel or when I've moved into a new place. Should really use it whenever you're in a restroom or changing room too but the room needs to be dark. Hard to do in public facilities.

That change room within the class should have never been allowed. It would have been a red flag for me. Yes, it was a Fashion Design class, however students can go and change/try on what they made in the washrooms around the school.

I think the only other 2 options are the locker rooms in the gym or bathrooms.
Graduated there in 95, and I think I know what room was being used for that class. Was on the 1st floor, tiled and double in size. We had architecture class in there during my days, had a sink for cleanup and a small closet we stored out tools in.
Most Drama Students will tell you Wenham a back room behind the stage used for woredrobe changes and pre-play preparation (this is true for most High Schools(, but looking back I can not help but wonder what could have happened. Luckily this was 21 plus years ago so the tech was not so readily available, but still..

This man was someone these young students trusted and he wrongfully took advantage of that trust. It is extremely likely these girls will have serious trust issues for years to come. I doubt they’ll ever be able to trust an authority figure without having the sickening feeling that they are being watched. It’s revolting and awful.

I’m a teacher and every time a case like this comes up, it sickens me. He isn’t a teacher he’s a predator, he’s traumatised these young women for years to come. I just hope they find out in prison what he’s done. I hope he experiences the same fear his victims now fear whenever he has to use the washroom/ shower.

And when something did happen, they took care of it as efficiently and effectively as possible. There was one teacher at our school who even stopped a kid from committing suicide. A lot of the times it's the school systems, higher authority's, and environments that do a horrible job at dealing with and protecting students from bullying. But generalizing about the entire teacher population does no good.

I work at a small high school with students who have autism, depression, emotional disturbances etc. The fact that it's small makes it a lot easier to stop bullying- which doesn't happen often (from what I've seen and heard. Verbal and cyberbullying are harder to stop, but whatever physical instances I see, I stop).

Wait till he gets released from prison, he will be listed as a felon, sexual predator and after not able to find work when he gets out, a beast will be turned loose in society. Instead of taking picture he will probably physically assault victims. A monster now, soon a beast will be created. He needed to be removed from the streets for what he did. But even if he is reformed in prison, doubtful. The system is setup that when he gets out no one will hire him. He will become someone who is pissed off at the world and want someone to pay for his suffering. The girls that testified against him becarefull when he is released. After being unable to fine work and labeled as a predator, nothing left for him but crime. If he gets beat and raped in prison he will have years to think about who put him behind bars.

You're telling me that this man only received 15 years in prison for recording underage children secretly knowing good and well that he was doing this and he was also supposed to be a person of the community being a teacher being someone that you can go to and he's doing this to students and only got 15 years God this system is f*****ed.
The prisons are overpopulated and payed with tax payer money. We don’t have the resources to always punish people to the fullest extent. 15 years is a lot of time to be somewhere like prison. In my opinion prison is worse then death and it’s disgusting what he did but I don’t think he deserves to have that level of suffering for the rest of his life. You live among convicted criminals in a small cell with little stimulation of any kind, eating terrible food. He’ll be around 67 years old when he gets out and will permanently be a registered sexual offender. Meaning he can’t live or go near areas known to have more children around and they check up on him to make sure he’s not being a threat to society. He can no longer teach and most likely loses his pension. Prison is going to be hell for him he’s not a hardened criminal so imo he got what he deserved. Maybe they could of thrown another 5 years on but 15 is a long time to be in prison. And when he gets out things aren’t gonna be looking good for him.

Along the way, someone knew something was wrong, and let it go because "he's the cool teacher, he wouldn't do that!" As young girls, we're trained to respect elders no matter what, especially men. Do you know how many women I know that were afraid for their safety but didn't want to hurt the guys' feelings and lived to regret it? They had a gut feeling and discounted it for one reason or another. And yeah, I've had a gut feeling that I ignored and I really wish I hadn't. So at this point, I value my safety over someone else's ego, and if I have children, female or male, I'll teach them the same. And I'm also saying that my mom trusted and believed me. It does in a sense, but the reason is that there are so many counts of the same crime. Each crime raises the sentencing standard. He would have been better off committing voluntary manslaughter or even sexual assault because he has no record so the sentencing guideline would've been about the same.
