Absolutely love how you not only teach us these tips and tricks, but you also organize the video so when we hover over the "line" (sorry, don't know what it's technically called) we can see what topic is covered - WOW! How super organized is that!!!! Thank you Kevin Stratvert for giving us these tools!
Kevin, I really like how you explained things so clearly. I am a senior adult and can feel challenged trying to keep up with how to stay on top of my schedule as well as using "To Do" when I have not grown up in that generation. I am determined to learn. Thank you for doing this video.
Really hope that now that you've left Microsoft, you expand this out into a series of videos using all sorts of productivity tools. The world is your oyster now!
Great clarity. I have been using To Do for a couple of weeks, and had no idea of all its features. So helpful Kevin. A gift that keeps on giving 3 years later!
Adding flagged emails to your tasks is really powerful. At first I did not like it and switched that feature off in settings. But I found it very inefficient to try and manually add the tasks in especially when I needed information in a specific email in order to do the task. So now I keep the feature on and I love that you can create subtasks within the flagged email task. Often the first step for me is simply "read this in detail" as I'll often get wall of text emails that take 10-15 minutes to fully read and understand.
Video idea (or point me to the video if you have one already): Discuss Microsoft Planner vs Microsoft To Do: similarities, differences, when you might use one versus the other? Also do Planner and To Do sync with the Outlook Calendar (i.e., do they automatically place to do items on your calendar? (that would be super handy for me!!!) Thank you so much for your tutorials! they are an awesome way to get to know all the things available thru Microsoft Office! Who KNEW???!!! Thank you!
Microsoft has really stepped up their game during Satya Nadella's time as CEO (from 2014-). The tools are becoming more powerful, connected and simple at the same time, and this has created A LOT of added value for me recently. Another amazing thing is this RUclips channel; an easy, fresh and friendly way to learn about Microsoft's tools. Thanks Kevin for that! Microsoft is also doing very cool stuff on their hardware and software, instead of progressing in tiny increments like before. Very compelling stuff, creating value for the consumer first and to the shareholders second.
Great tutorial! I switched to To Do, from Wiunderlist. Everything is great, except... one very important feature that is missing is to showing the overdue in the doc on my Mac like the reminders. I suggested this feature numerous times. No change. Therefore I am using reminders, Mac, because I am never late. It shows how many are overdue. Even though there are reminders in To Do, I can still miss the payment, if I miss the reminder, which is very easy To Do, :o). If you can suggest this feature to your colleges at Microsoft, our community would appreciate it.
Hi Kevin , Thanks for this Video , I was confused with functionality of sharing and assigning task list with others in To do app , Now am clear .I request for explaining the To do & planner app interoperability in upcoming videos
Seems like there are too many Microsoft apps for tasks and none seem to cleanly integrate into the Outlook calendar from what I've seen. They should simplify this and streamline To-Do, Tasks, Projects, etc. My challenge is trying to put our team tasks at work into one place and keep track of all the various due dates and who is completing them.
Hey Kevin, thanks for the video, thats the thing about Microsoft, sometimes you have a powerful tool in front of you but without guidance you dont see how far you can go. The devs and desgners added a lot of options but sometimes you use the basics if you dont have the proper awareness Great ! tks
OMG - you totally solved my issue with TO DO and figuring out how to do sub-folders (used groups worked fabulously). Thank you so much for this video. I had spent over an hour trying to figure this out & then found you had the whole thing laid out so well. Bravo!
Kevin I have been watching instructional videos about To Do for the past hour and a half and none of them were as helpful as yours for getting started and making the most of this feature. Thank you!
Really great. Thanks Kevin. I just switched over from Wunderlist to MS To Do and wanted to make sure I still had all the same features and abilities. Love it.
I got up today and decided that the most important thing I need to complete on my todo list was to find a tool to manage that list. This looks great for what I need. I keep too many things in my head, have things jotted down in multiple places. It becomes too much to the point that I become unproductive. It's time for change.
Really helpful video to get me started - very comprehensive! A helpful addition to would be more flexible custom reminders, e.g. every 1st Tuesday of the month or every other Friday (like in Outlook). I can't move all my productivity stuff to OneNote/To Do yet, mainly because this feature is lacking. Hope you're reading, Kevin!
thanks you. Kevin. I am learning, noted this years ago. But for me, it is never too late. I will use to and try to master it thru my daily work self-managment. Apprecaited!
Can we create My Day a day before? It is important to know what all we have to do next day to be geared up for the day's jobs.Your tutorial is excellent, clearly explained, good sound quality too. Thank you.
I love this app, it has replaced my Samsung Notes, my Google Keep and My Google Reminders. Winning feature is that it runs natively on Windows and it synchronizes everywhere.
What I find missing is a way to tie a To Do to one of the other 365 Suite, such as Outlook or Calendar. No way I'm checking two places to find out what my day/week is about. Keep growing and thanks for making the video!
Great Video and easy to follow. One thing I discovered myself which I feel you could add to your channel is how you can drive your own productivity using the Focus Sessions feature in the clock app on Windows. It maps across to the To Do app as you probably know but I like how it tracks your productive time and gives you a sense of focused energy as you work through tasks.
Thanks for the video - Microsoft To Do is the best (free) option out there. One of my favorite features is the ability to flag an email and quickly move it to a list.
Thank you so much for this videos as I learned a couple of new things. I was originally a Wunderbar user. One of the features I loved was that starred items would be listed under their respective tasks. Now it’s the reverse and not as helpful. I use it for grocery shopping on my phone and would organize things by store. It was so easy to see which stores I needed to go to because there are some items that I stared. Now it’s a jumbled mess, I can alphabetize the entire starred list, but the task is listed underneath. Please, since you work at Microsoft, ask the developers to bring this feature back, or make it as a sorting option. To clarify what I’m saying here’s an example. Stop & Shop is the task, under that I starred dish detergent, hand soap, yoghurt. Whole Foods is the task, organic chicken, milk, spinach are starred. What comes back when you select Important is, dish detergent (Stop & Shop) hand soap (Stop & Shop), milk (Whole Foods) organic chicken (Whole Foods) spinach (Whole Foods) yoghurt (Stop & Shop). Hope this makes sense. Hope you can help to bring this feature back. Thanks!
Thank you for your video and channel's contents, Kevin. I hope that when Microsoft creates a way to migrate Outlook's Tasks list into TO DO, that you'll publish a new video. :-)
Thank you so much for this video. I've been using MS To Do, but you gave me more tips that i will be incorporating soon (ie. adding steps within a task, showing completed/ all tasks).
Great introductory video - I'd been struggling with finding a suitable task manager that would work on my android phone in a Microsoft workplace and I think this will be a great help!
Thank you for the video - very helpful as I've not long started using it. All I need to know is how to change the name of the categories to customise them for myself so I can use them. A colour doesn't mean much so rather than cause confusion down the track renaming the category would be helpful. Thanks!
Thanks, Kevin, I have learnt a great deal and most importantly appreciate the TODO more than what I had before. I did not know the features and functions previously. 👍
I've tried the app on my phone, but it still missing some features. A big one is the reminder when it is a repeating task, it doesn't have the option to maintain the reminder (for example, you need to make a medication every day, you want both the task and the reminder to repeat daily, this is not an option right now). Another feature I would like to see would be a calendar view, where you could see the month/week and see the tasks you have, and you could choose a day, and see all the tasks with more detail, plus check them, edit them, add a new, etc. Great video by the way!
It would be great if they had an "inprogress" status and the option to retain "My Day" tasks for the next day. Also, there's no "My Day" in Outlook 2016, which is a real deficit.
Thanks, great video and very well explained. One question I have is about the ability to sort by category. I can do this on my computer but not on the app.
Great instructional video. Suggestion: try to limit repeating the phrase “what I want to do”, “what I do”, “what you’ll do”, “one of the things I do”, “what I can do”. 😱. It’s terribly annoying. Sorry for my directness. You have tremendous potential and I plan to continue watching!
Tasks is my favourite MS product. I love to mark things on my plate as done. I am glad it is this simple and MS didn't try to complicate it. I use it daily for my own. This is an MVP of Trello which I use in org. The note function in its Mac app has some bugs though. And, in this video, I am seeing category and flag functionality for the first time;flag list is so cool! MS should integrate it better with Outlook and Teams. I see it on Outlook web but not on Mac OS. I read that MS is updating Outlook Mac app, hoping it will be good.
Another great video Kevin - your videos are really good. Question: Besides flagging an email, is there another way to quickly put an email into TO DO? Also, I have tasks in outlook that are recurring for me which I look at every day. Do you use both outlook and TO DO for tasks or do you stick with one? Thanks.
Super information , very detail and well structured. question 1) My To Do does not show the reg flag, how to fix it ...is ther a syn issue? Another question is there undo option once you have delete a whole list???
You mentioned limits in the My Day list to three items. This must be a previous feature as I don't see that, but I would like to have it. Better still decide on the limit. I personally like 4 items.
My wife and I use this for our shared grocery list. One feature I like is to use the completed list to find things we need to buy again. Just 'uncomplete' and it moves back to the top of the list.

That’s what I’d love to know. I’ve tried many task apps and I can’t see to find one I like that links your tasked to outlook. At least, not for free.
Microsoft should merge the two. Have the ability to move between a list, (Kanban) board, and calendar views.
In the settings you can turn on the link to Planner. My assigned planner tasks show up in my Microsoft To Do tasks
@@SWhitehead What settings offer this? In Office.com? I don't see that option when logged into To Do via a browser...
@@SWhitehead Planner doesn't show up in my 'free' version and it isn't an option in my settings. : (
