Ah, yes! Excellent video! I'm so glad to see you making and I look forward to your future content! 🖤
Sara Monster : You are amazingly beautiful Milady Sara! A TRUE Vampire Princess! A real Dark Gothic Goddess! 💋🌹💜🎩💀
I think you did an amazing video and there should be more watching this! I'm DEFENETLY going to buy at least one or two of the books you recommend.
Thank you for doing this, I'm going to write about goth and gothic in 10th grade because I want to show my class mates why I dress the way I do and yeah... It was just an awesome Idea of you doing this.
Sending much love from Germany
Lola, 14🖤
DarknYourSoul : A big hug for you from this portuguese bat! 😎
Outstanding. I'm adding the top 3 to My Amazon wish list. Born in '67. I went through the entire 80s San Francisco scene into early 90s where I developed a taste for the Industral sound as well. Post Punk and Death Rock music and fashion though for sure 🖤 I appreciate what you did here. Can't wait for your next one.
Can you please make a video on Corp Goth?
I can't wait for new videos. Hugs and kisses from Poland!
This is a wonderful video! It really took me back and I've read some books on goth, but none of the books that you showcased. Thank you for sharing this information. Can't wait to see more videos from you. :)
Thanks for watching!
love the video, nothing like the feeling of a good quality book in my hands in this virtual world we live in staring at screens all day
Hello! And welcome (officially) to the world of vlogging! Really enjoyed this and your educational style. Some of these I own, others I hadn't heard of at all. Can't wait to complete the collection... and see more content from you! xx
I'm so excited ahah, I'm waiting for your next videos !
You rock Lisa!!! Thanks for posting this vlog. I can't wait to see more of your vids.
Awesome video, Liisa! So happy to see you making videos, we need more 80s and 90s goths on RUclips.
your bookcase!!! ahh beautiful😍
Yes to all the books! Thanks, I've added some of these to my wish lists. Please more of these: fashion, music, etc.
I really do hope you'll be back for another video soon. I enjoy your calm, friendly manner in which you give informations based on experience.
It took me forever to get back to this vid. I'm so happy with it. Need more.
Wow! Thank you so much, Liisa!
Love your books!
Great video! Very informative and will definitely check out one of those books. I think your other videos on goth fashion were both well done
Oh my what a great list, and film photography days Thanks for the book reviews
Fun fact. High fashion still is goth. Ever heard of Gareth Pugh? he’s actually legitimately goth.
I loved it! I particularly want to pick up the art of gothic and somewhere leather somewhere lace. I always interested in art and the evolution of the goth scene in all its glory. I look forward to seeing more content hopefully very soon!
This was a great video! Need more of this. I feel like goth talk isn't done much anymore because it's such a touchy subject for many. I feel like this was very open and educational without drawing hard lines
Amazing work 💙 you're so pretty too! Looking forward to more videos!
Ahhh this is great! I've dipped deep into metal for several years and I've been into the while goth thing for a little shorter but recently I have been getting more into it and being more productive and creative, this is what I need, please keep it up!
I love learning about goth culture!!Thank you!
I'm so excited for more videos!!!
Thank you so much for the recommendations. I love your book review videos.
You're welcome thanks for watching.
Great content!
My first book was Goth Chic and it's amazing how he builds the subject up.
Greetings from Brazil.
A really great video, keep up the great work. Cheers from Finland.
Love this!!! ❤❤❤
Lovely video! Would love to see more reccomendational videos in the future
Awesome video! As a new-ish person to the scene (only been in for about a year) this is extremely helpful in terms of where to start getting into the heart of the subculture.
I was very sceptical when I saw your "40 years of Goth" videos. I must admit, however, that I underestimated you. With books like these, it seems you've more than enough clout, and you've done a fair amount of research for even those videos. For my inability to give you more credit than you deserve, I apologise. I've subscribed, and I have to thank you for showcasing these books. The 90's and 2000's are perhaps my favourite decades of the goth scene (really, for pop culture in general), so these books are to be a great help in helping me more accurately recreate the more prominent styles from the era.
Really good video. I've been waiting for a honest review of gothic glamour and some wear leather for AGES! I would love more videos :-)
Fantastic vid !!!!! Maybe roomtour ? Clothes ? More books ?
Liisa as someone from the original UK punk scene I think you missed out on the most important influence after Siouxsie (actually before in terms of her being Siouxsie's 'grandma of punk) that is the most underrated artist of 1978-1980, that is the utterly 'wonderful one', Lene Lovich (check out HER photo's from that era and most important her 'Birdsong' and 'New Toy' video. Francis Ford Coppola's wonderful 'Bram Stokers Dracula' was based on her ideas AND FASHION from Birdsong (FFC said so btw).
I am not a Goth myself but a lover of her music along with the first true Rock Goddess, Grace Slick. Lene has said her favorite artist to listen too is Jim Morrison of the Doors whose music was the first darkside music along with the Velvets. Important to know she and her husband, MADE THEIR OWN CLOTHES, hairstyles and video' (see 'My Schmertz' too). Please check her out. She is the missing link!!
I know I'm Old but I think it is amazing how old the original inspirational influences are, if you look at Grateful Dead imagery with the skulls, roses and guns and the 1969 Hells Angels look and you have the real roots of darkside! The irony is that the best Hippies were the dark freaks and punks of that era! 'This is the end, my only friend the end, no safety or surprise the end, You'll never look into my eyes, again! That's true Goth in spirit if not 'style'.That man had it down in song and look!
Dark, deep Romantic and beautiful! Love Siouxsie and Nina Hagen too! Great video's btw!
so happy for having you here in youtube, you're very interesting 💜🙏 looking forward your new videos.
xo
Looking forward to more of your videos 🖤
I think I’m going to buy all of them. Never really wanted to know about the fashion, but it would help me a lot for transforming myself into my own gothic fashion.
Loved this video + will definitely be getting at least one of these books plus yours
Thank you!
Fantastic video Liisa! The Art of Gothic is a beautiful book and I liked it so much I gifted it to a few friends. Your book deserves to be in this list also! Please do keep vlogging. Cheers.
This is so interesting thank you Liisa. I'm reading Encyclopedia Gothica right now, I love your well researched and very witty style! (Loved the entry on Interpol😀) I am looking forward to more videos like this 😀
Thanks so much!
I love thus video, thank you for your recommendation. Would love a video about gothic fiction xx
Wonderful selection and it's wonderful to be talking things other than just fashion, even if it's books about fashion :)
Hi!!! I love your youtube channel I just found it and it doesn’t have many videos but I’m in love with it🖤
Thanks Olivia! I'm working on it.
Love it
very awesome!!
thank you, liisa!!
You're welcome. It's such a special book!
I bought Art of Gothic from my local Barnes & Noble as it was in their bargain-priced section, and I love it! I’m technically not into the goth scene (I like music but don’t care enough about bands to tailor my lifestyle in that direction), but as a casual connoisseur of most things gothic, I appreciate the variety in the aesthetics and subcultures portrayed, and it was very informative, too. There’s a bit of something for everyone, from old school to futuristic, and I consider it well worth picking up for those interested in the scene.
the video is amazing. i love it! you're super nice
I've read 3 of the 5 and also own your book, must add the remaining 2 to my list. As a goth and fashion design student, I feel drawn to researching goth fashion. Thank you for this video and your book. Much love and blessings from Puerto Rico. 🖤
Thank you Puerto Rico, for reading!
I really enjoyed this video, hope you keep making them ! 🦇 🦇🦇
Oh man, The Art of Gothic included Moi Dix Mois? Wicked.
Great content! Would love to see more like this :)
Definitely want to see more! I loved your book...any more on the horizon?🧛🏻♀️🖤🦇🕷🕸
Just finished reading Goth Chic, I am now reading Goth Undead Subculture and I just got in Goth The Design, Art and Fashion of a Dark Subculture and it is a beautiful book.
I loved it! Thank you :)
I've been hoping that you'd show up again. Congratulations. Do more book videos, more collectibles videos, and more magazine videos. Please.
I do have a goth zine/magazine collection. Maybe I'll bust those out!
Oh, and just because I want to, much thanks for ENCYCLOPEDIA GOTHICA . Bought it long ago, love it still, hoping for a follow up sometime.

Please be back soon, I loved the video!
Really good options, i want to learn more, i love goth and dark fashion, lifestyle!! of course music, i am not a 100% bat girl jaja, but I do enjoy everything related. I will search on amazon every book
Voltaire has(had?) some pretty cool books on goths as well I believe, although a bit more lighthearted than the ones you presented. :D Great video, can't wait to see what else you come up with!
Maravilhosa! Podia falar das maquiagens gótica também. Amei o canal. Bj
I have must of it...but i like also Gothic Bible from Mick Mercer :)
Yes! He did several... The Gothic Rock Black Book (Focus on influential bands & music) 1988 ...... Gothic Rock All you ever wanted to know - but were too gormless to ask. (Great band and fan Pictures) 1991....... The Hex Files the goth bible. (Europe and US goth and vampire fetish pagan directory, pre internet & very early internet) 1996 ......21st Century Goth (Global goth directory) 2002 All written with a big dollop of Mercer humour, :)
this was a great vlog i like this almost more than your 40 years because it's more personable
I literally pressed the like button as soon you opened your mouth ❤️❤️❤️
Aw, that's very sweet! Thanks.
This was really interesting, thank you. I would like to buy all of these books, I just need to win the lottery!! Would like to see more of your videos! X
I really need that Dark Glamour. Preferably signed. Just for the lols.
Great looking books. So far I have only read the Goth Bible.
Thank you that you are true goth....
nice video,subscribed
Well done! :)
Thanks Sarah!
This was a really interesting video. I may not be a goth, but I had to admit i dig goth chicks. Maybe why I've been with my gf for so long. I've never gotten into the history of Goth and these books will help me understand the culture even more and it be a great valentines gift lol
Thankyou for this video! I am a huge gothic book nerd. Have you read Jillian Venters book Gothic charm school? 🖤🦇
Thanks for watching! I have this book and think she does a great job of answering a lot of newbie goth questions. She cool.
I don't dress goth but I do like the goth fashion and I also listen to goth music.
Thanks for your video MILADY Liisa: I enjoyed it very much! 💋🌹💜🎩💀
I love your book shelves. Where did you get them?
I own all the above books
Gosh I love the filter of the video.
How did you get it?
Samuel Hadchiti no filter! We shot in mostly beautiful natural night with some classic cinematography skills by Curtis. I'm pretty happy with it!
can you do something about steampunk
plz
Oh I heard the creator of the "40 years of Goth"-Videos is a non-goth. It's nice to see you in Person! ^^
What's the difference between Goth and Gothic?
ForeverDreamWithinADream : You explained it rather well! Goth is simply an abreviation of the word Gothic and it just refers to the subculture which emerged in the post-punk scene of the late 70's and early 80's that was inspired by the darker side of punk rock together with references to the german romantic neo-gothic fashion, art, architecture and litterature of the Victorian period (latter part of the XIX century) and also to cult B-horror movies (research post-punk, goth, death rock)!
It was ONLY in the 90's that the Goth subculture got divided into several different branches becoming somewhat more organized, thus morphing into a more intelectual and a real alternative movement!
I'm a Gothic christian and I wear black and purple outfits because people and children thought I was a Gothic angel because I looked upon them from heaven to earth.
What a shame that here in my country dont sell these awesome books :"(
Plus I get tired of people saying nice costume or some references to Halloween and I have to tell them I don't celebrate Halloween and I don't wear costumes. These are my regular clothes and jewelry.
I’ll need to buy myself some books. That I don’t have room for... but oh well
Weird seeing a mate of mine in that last book you showed...... He didn't even know he was in it :S
It's a small world isn't it?
Umm I rather be called Gothic than Goth cause it sounds more glamorous, sophisticated and fancy. Goth usually I have to slow down, pronounce loud enough for people in a 20 mile radius to hear cause these ignorantians keep thinking I said golf!!!! So screw the difference.
I'm more the emo typ😂Does anyone knows about "emo"books or do they even exist? But cool interesting video anyway🤘
liisa I love you and you're videos but emo is not goth it will never be goth like you did in 40 years of mens goth
You did an amazing video and I'm so excited to see your future content 😌
Love it
