I'm supposed to be posting Shegiye tonight, but it's on another channel. I found that habesha music (In a way, I think the scope of this style of music could even encompass the Sudan and Somalia, despite the ethnic and religious differences in those regions. I was surprised to learn that the Sudanese use a more standardized Arabic language, yet the type of music is very different from Arabic music in the general sense. Of course, my knowledge of Sudanese music is superficial） seems to have traditionally used a special pentatonic scale, and there are also some similarities in terms of instruments (such as different shapes of Krar developed in various regions). After entering the 1960s to 1980s, the pop music that developed sounded different from other regions in sub-Saharan Africa. So I separated the content. This allows for a more focused audience. Maybe I can ask more targeted questions and collect answers.
Coming back to Rophnan, it is difficult for me to classify his music. His music sounds different from other Ethiopian artists' music (or more standard Ethiopian pop music?), and I think it is not related to what we generally call afrobeats.
