How Did an Endangered Hawaiian Goose End Up in California?

- Wildlife experts are wondering how four endangered geese ended up in Southern California. Nene, also known as Hawaiian Geese, are native to the Hawaiian Islands and are the state’s bird. The geese are being cared for at the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach. Nene were almost extinct in the 1950s, with only about 50 in their population. With conservation and breeding programs, their numbers are up to about 3,800.
News: how did the endangered geese get to California?
Me: life finds a way?
Someone probably tried to illegally poach them
Clearly y’all didn’t watch the video. A 90 year old Californian woman had them for 17 years and couldn’t keep them any longer!
Hopefully these beautiful animals can make a recovery.
Idk if there’re endangered, Icun says near threaten
The excitement of welcoming new guests, there will be more cautiousness to save them, welcome to California,Nene.
I am not surprised someone kept them as pets. Lots of people keep illegal animals as pets all the time here in California and I am sure they do that in other states or countries too. I am an old lady and nothing shocks me or surprises me anymore.
The woman who had the Nene had a permit for them (I believe). So no, they weren’t illegal pets as you can keep them if you have a permit for it.
Wasn’t illegal
@@AbysmalGhost that's..not true.....this is an enddagered species and the state bird of Hawai'i as well as protected under the DLNR
Excuse me? NO ANIMAL IS ILLEGAL!
@@808-PFH-Kanaka-Rights and the lady had a permit….. and the birds were captive bred…
1:15 why is it so wobbly 😭 it’s so cute
Well, interesting things happen. About twenty years ago, an American Bald Eagle flew 'across the pond' and ended up in Ireland. But this is not on the same level. Four rare birds in one place/. Illegal human activity. Nice to know the woman that had them took VERY good care of them (over 15 years old, must have been good care).
Keep them safe. We need to protect them from humans. From poachers.
They need people to care for time
@@Specogecko I meant people who want to hunt them and purposely endanger them. Poachers.
@@RaptureGeneration there’s aren’t any
Please save animals Goose 😢
They're witnessing a sweep of the Lakers 😂
How did LeGOAT miss that wide open 3? Something’s not adding up.

@@SiameseFatcatI'm 60 and it made me laugh
Maybe someone tried to smuggle them to the black market but they escape and now need to be returned to hawaii!
No they were owned legally and captive bred
They flew there?
But they don't migrate outside of Hawaii. They only fly within the islands.
Why did the goose cross the ocean?
To get to the other side.
No the goose fly to the other side
Beautiful birds ❤
Technically theyre not endangered but near threatened.
What on earth is the bird on 1:15
Maybe their GPS has gone haywire ??🤨
Probably someone knowing how conservative California is with their wildlife and trying to save the freaking species. That’s how.
3 words: Illegal pet trade.
It was completely legal, owner had a permit and these were captive bred. 2 words; educate yourself
@@Specogecko Still part of the illegal pet trade...Documents can be forged.
We saw one in our skool and it looked exactly like that we live near the coachella fest pole fields
Well now I know what that song meant when it said watch me nay nay
Kinda cute
How did they get from Hawaii to California? Hmmm. What a mystery.
I’ve been saying it like “neen” my entire life
It either swam here or it flew here. Either way, the reason why it came here is probably because it wanted to see life outside its Hawaiian home, it wanted to see the rest of the world.
Near extict, but the old woman has been enjoying their eggs for breakfast for the last 17 years. 😅
EDIT: For people who lack a sense of humor, this is a joke.
Thought the same thing😂
Where was that stated?
A quick google search shows that they only lay eggs once a year and they don’t always lay eggs every year so. You’re completely wrong and you just made that story up. So why did you lie about that?
@@davidhowell1415 Probably because it's something called... A JOKE.
@@Mike__B sounds more like a malicious lie than a joke
Wow that is huh how peculiar flew away from the volcano eruption they even escape to California must been a heck of a journey for them at least you're alive too bad the can't talk but still pretty cool.
Soo what an old women had them as pets?? And they were give. To you as reecues
Sometimes it pays to ask for directions...
They probably heard about the blue lasers.
Dang
Bird Trade, Maybe
Well you see there's this crazy thing that birds do. They fly.
Maybe if people didn't need a permit to own any that would encourage breeding?
Silly goose… 🦆🪿
I wish someone cared about me as much as that those people care about birds in general!
Smugglers!
Not inside edition being surprised birds can fly... why I watch them lol
Because they fly
It’s called captive breeding….
It wanted to surf some mainland waves.
Unknown Mother Goose 🖤🤍
They fled for a reason
Now watch me whip (kill it)
Now watch me nae nae (okay)
