- The WORST Yearbook EVER- McNair High School in Atlanta, GA, DeKalb County School District. This yearbook was created by Byron Wesley Parker, McNair HS teacher & former professional football player from 2004-14, (voice in the video @ 8:37), and this yearbook was approved by the principal Loukisha Walker.

Did you know from this yearbook that this is an Engineering High School, or the wrestling team won 1st place in the county match, the symphonic and marching band scored Superior at the festival or the Travel Club went to Guatemala?
Parents addressed the DeKalb County School district and the school board about their concerns with the senior dues of $325 that did not include the prom, senior picture, or yearbook. Sadly, the principal ended the SGA, Student Council, and senior class officers. In four years of high school, these high school seniors did not have one school dance. This was the first yearbook in four years of high school. Their senior trip was after school on a Friday from 4-9pm to Stone Mountain Park which is about fifteen minutes from the school. The school did not have a senior college trip in their senior year. This yearbook was an additional $60 to purchase. The school board member, Dr. Michael Ervin, and regional superintendent, Dr. Ralph Simpson, failed to help McNair High School seniors and parents with their concerns.

I think the seniors being cut pisses me off the most. With the lack of club photos that means some students got 0 photos in the yearbook...a yearbook they paid for. What a great thing to show the kid someday.

I know our school doesn’t have a huge yearbook budget, but this video shows that it’s not about budget-it’s about effort, attention, and care. Your students deserved so much more.
This woman is my new hero! People can complain about "resources" all they want. But this yearbook proves that a major part of the problem at THIS school is the lack of care of the administration. If they don't take the time to care about something such as this, what makes anyone think they would work at the hard stuff for your kids?

And if the school puts zero effort into their yearbook, and doesn't even have a student government/class officers/etc, you know that school must be a mess

Is this a rule or not?

Wow just wow I hate when people make poor quality yearbooks. If I pay for a yearbook I expect it to be well made. My yearbooks were. But sucks that some schools don't take their time seems like that yearbook was rushed.

This is so sad I hate that community over there. And not because of the students it's because of the adults that don't give the students what they truly need and it all starts from the top with the principal and superintendent! The sane mess If not worse is happening down the street at carver! The district doesn't support administration, the kids realize it and it's reflected in the school events and materials/events.. just sad.

I'm so sorry I'm seeing this so late. As a High School educator and Artist, there is no excuse for this. Please excuse me, but this is not about "black or white", this is about lack of accountability, lack of planning, scheduling, organization, responsibility and everything that goes into creating a proper keepsake yearbook that these students deserve. I'm very sorry this happened to your school community and I hope someone is listening and making changes towards improvements.
I feel terrible for the kids that graduated that year.

Looks like to me no one was working on it and then at the last minute they had to rush to get something to the printer. The teacher staff that was overseeing the yearbook and the Principal should be ashamed.
Their logo is just the Denver Broncos' but with no color, lol
My middle school has a better yearbook and its designed by the students.

this is SO infuriating, it makes me so mad! whoever did that yearbook is sorry, and should never, and i mean NEVER even come close to a yearbook. that is the WORST yearbook ever. like she said at 4:17, there were no extracurricular activities/athletic pictures in there at all. i would especially be pissed off if they didn't include the band members, since i am a band member myself.
Since there was no student government I guess there was no yearbook committee either.
I'm in the yearbook club and if the principal saw this she would slap the book on the floor and be like "THIS IS BOOK CLUB ALL OVER AGAIN!!!"

Yes I am an alum of McNair High School and I was an editor as well of the 2004 class. In the years after I graduated the yearbook did decline why I'm not sure. 2004 and years prior the yearbook was done in great taste. Not knocking this yearbook...No its not the best I've seen but however we were partnered through a photo company who published our yearbooks. Also, Im not sure if yearbook is offered as a class during the lunch block still or not. Our yearbook sponsor had 3 or 4 cameras for us to use for yearbook purposes. Maybe you all should consider making it a class again if it is not because I still cherish my memories from 2000 to 2004 with each yearbook

I was my school's yearbook adviser for over 20 years. I also judged yearbooks for Columbia University Scholastic Services. All of your comments were spot on. All photos should have a caption with the five elements of good journalism: who, what, when where, and why. It's too bad you weren't on the staff since you know what a good yearbook should contain.
This might look bad but its actually realy impressive when you find out it was put together in Microsoft word.
This video is about more than just a poorly designed book. It is an apt symbol of the low-quality standard of education many Black students in public schools are getting today. But more than that:
The staff that repeatedly delivered failed expectations to parents and students of the McNair 2016 graduating class, the counselors who didn't take their college-prep juniors and seniors to visit prospective universities, the so-called educators who stood and cheered during a McNair High talent show while a dancing young couple simulated sex on stage--they are what happens when people get degrees instead of getting actually educated, when they get job positions for which they are not qualified, and when they care more about what Cookie of "Empire" would do than they care about Jesus and His empire of righteousness.
And then, when someone like the concerned maker of this video, a tax-paying parent and community activist, brings to their attention their substandard work and egregious values, they tell her to stop complaining and go to the White people's part of town, north Fulton!
I always say that a Black American will always find frustration when she expects something from her inferior cousins that they are unable to deliver.

I was on the yearbook staff, (class), my junior and senior year. Our books looked nothing like that, and quite frankly I'm ashamed of it. I will say though what was said about having more resources in the north end of the county...where is the lie? It's been like that for years. McNair used to get Dunwoody's old book hand-me-down's. Someone just told you the truth.

Coach Parker. shouldn't ever tell a parent that a child at McNair high school shouldn't expect to receive the same benefits of a school in another District. or on the north side of town as he stated . However this is THE WORST YEAR BOOK EVER parents should be given there money back. The principal and the staff should be disappointed. This book also represents them. however this book has more pictures of the principal than the seniors class. it's strange that my son picture isn't in the book. he graduated with the class of 2016. But just maybe coach Parker has a point. judging by this year book. MCNAIR HIGH SCHOOL had no student government or seniors superlatives . and no sponsors. I do believe that if the board of education had listen to some of the parents. This would have been a more productive school year. for the class of 2016. meaning .senior year should be the best year ever. This wasn't the case. They didn't have a real senior week. They were over charge for graduation. They didn't have a real year book committee. I hope Dr Walker go above and beyond for the class of 2017.

Lmao... what a sad and crappy yearbook. There's a big difference between a good yearbook and a bad one. One of my middle school yearbooks was kinda like the one in this video (but not THAT bad). It was just a boring book full of random pictures with no captions or information whatsoever. A good yearbook should have a theme, articles, be very informative, have every picture captioned, and be fun to read through for years and years after
Wow! looks like my high school yearbooks. ours did have a bit more like the grades separated, clubs, and sports. but, it was mostly just an expensive book of advertisements.
Is this a student published yearbook? If so, then it's on the students. It's not the teacher's job to write the yearbook. Student's should be held accountable for THEIR work. It takes a lot to produce a yearbook. Students no longer care about having pride nor a spirit of excellence. If the students can't put together anything better than that, then the school needs to cut the class and put the responsibility of the yearbook in the hands of an outside source.
Pretty sure the Pegasus book was so bad because somebody forgot they needed to make one so someone got online made up some story about the prom pictures it went to the cheapest place they could find

The funny thing about thing about this video is the amount of time taken out to make it. I will agree that the yearbook needs A LOT of work. I don't mind admitting that or taking full responsibility for it. Lets state some facts that seemed to be left out of this video... First, how many students paid IN-FULL for their yearbook? One person, which means the yearbook that you have in your hand in this video wasn't paid for in full. A certain number of yearbooks were made, and to be honest, they shouldn't have been printed in the first place due to a lack of photos, effort by students AND THE PARENTS. This is more than just about a yearbook.
As you see, I am Coach Byron Parker and I am not afraid of coming out and saying my name. It is always easy to sit behind a camera or computer screen and point the finger. I grew up in Dekalb County and since I've been here at McNair High School, all I have seen is a whole lot of complaining. "The staff that repeatedly delivered failed expectations to parents and students of the McNair 2016 graduating class, the counselors who didn't take their college-prep juniors and seniors to visit prospective universities..." I went to Stephenson High School and I do not recall going on college visits because the teachers or counselors took us. My FATHER and MOTHER made sure that I ended up where I needed to be. It wasn't the job of anyone else to play the role of my parents, except for my parents. Do your part to ensure that your child is taken care of, don't wait for someone else to do the job for you. I have children of my own, and it is my job to make sure that they have everything that they need. It isn't the role of the teacher to raise them. We all have access to the same things...You should know when SAT and ACT tests are available, don't always wait for a teacher, coach, or counselor to do the job for you. Laziness has set in when it comes to parenting in the black community. You cannot blame the teachers for a child that is unwilling to learn, or a parent that doesn't feel "welcome" in the school building. If you're grown and the only focus is about your child, then your feelings about being welcomed in a school building is a wasted emotion.

This here is flat out disrespectful and out of line. If you feel this way, you should've taken your child out of the school and taken them to where you thought the teachers were more qualified. I myself, cannot allow you to speak about my administration or co-workers in this manner. How is it that you would mention Jesus in this manner, when your act of writing and posting this video was not an act of RIGHTEOUSNESS? We have EDUCATED BLACK people in the building, with multiple degrees and experience. They should be applauded for showing up to work and dealing with a lot of the foolishness that they have to deal with on a daily basis. APPLAUDED!!!!! This is my third year at this school and I wouldn't leave these kids for anything. But after seeing this video, and reading this message, I can clearly see, that it's not their fault. Before becoming a teacher, I thought that the community, teachers, administration, and parents were supposed to be on the same team when it came to educating the children/students. Apparently, it's the teachers jobs to be teacher, counselor, big brother/sister, disciplinarian, and parent.
I applaud my parents for what they did for my sister, myself, and my community. They would never go on the internet and hide behind a camera, they always found a way to help. I've always been told, "if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem, there is no in between." So for the tax-paying parent, community activist, concerned maker of this video, and living in the righteousness of Jesus, I personally would like to applaud you for a job well done on your video. How about you put that camera to some REAL good use and come up here and take pictures for the yearbook, while all of us "uneducated, unholy, Empire watching, and unqualified" teachers try to inspire the kids of our future in some form or fashion.

Byron Parker, I applaud and respect your passionate defense (though, as a proud educator, you should never repeatedly write possessives without using an apostrophe "s").
Please don't confuse my identity and words with those of the video maker. She and I are not the same person. I deserve the jabs; she doesn't. I like sparring with words; she likes an educational system that works for her.
I happen to know that she does more than "hide behind a camera" but has invested most of her time, for the past 25 years, in leading, motivating, and giving hands-on support to her children's education. She merely expected McNair High to match her efforts, as it had done, or nearly done, in the past.
Therefore, your dissatisfaction should be directed at me, a Fultonian outsider who nevertheless has every right to express my opinions about any institution or system designed to serve the tax-paying public -- especially if it falls far short of the mark in doing so.
(One evidence of this failure is the fact that you--you!--are caught on tape recommending that the video maker go to north DeKalb County if she wanted better services for her child. It's unbelievable that what you are really saying is that people in south DeKalb should quietly settle for less!)
The maker of this video -- the devoted parent and activist who engaged in a weekly battle to bring about improvements in your beloved albeit deficient school -- deserves only respect for being courageous enough, and civic-minded enough, to not remain quiet at the table when someone dresses up stale bread and tries to pass it off as acceptable.

If you can make excuses for this BS! Then you will make excuses fur everything. This year book was absolutely HORRIBLE! And if money was an issue such I'm sure was not then it should not have been made at all period! Plus all that empty space plenty of things could have gone one it!
