    God that’s impressive. I know you get a lot of crap for being a “fanboy” but I imagine it’s hard not to be when you have performance like this, plus a wide trac axle that gives a 1 ton truck the ability to turn like a car. I can’t afford one but I absolutely love keeping up with the new technology.

    I think the bigger issue with the keyless start is that it transmits continually and can be intercepted by a scanner device. It can them be cloned to a blank fob and used to start and steal the truck. If you have a keyless start you should store it in a small faraday bag when not in use.

    As someone with a class A CDL that on occasion tows about 30,000 pounds on a pintle trailer I think this is nuts. That truck is not nearly heavy enough to control a true load of that weight and not the very low profile ballast they were using. You even nearly blew through two stop signs coming to a stop! The camera cut away on both but it sure looked liked based on the outside camera on the first one you got the truck all the way through the stop sign before you stopped. I can imagine that would be a very common occurrence towing that kind of weight with one of these duallies. You did the same thing in the 40,000 gooseneck video too. I didn’t comment on that one because I figure you just didn’t know the road but this test was after that one.
    So it’s a nice truck but man that is insane to rate it that high. No doubt the power is more than adequate. The power is never the problem but asking an 8500ish pound truck to tow 30,000 on the bumper is nuts. Although I would say that’s not nearly as crazy as towing 40,000 on the single cab 2WD truck. An enclosed trailer approaching those weights would walk the dog with that short wheelbase, and light weight for what it is truck.

    Hey JD, I have a question for you. Well, more of an observational question. On my 2013 F250, when I turn on the wipers, within about 3 seconds, all of the lights turn on. Day or night, doesn't matter. When I turn the wipers off, the lights shut off after about 10 seconds. Can you confirm if your truck does this? Its one of my absolute favorite features. I don't know this may only happen with trucks equipped with automatic lights and if they are set to the auto mode.

I have been a life long Ford fan, and if it wasn't for the fact that my 2016 F-350 is still running just fine and is very capable of hauling my Fifth wheel. If it wasn't I am afraid I would be looking at Ram or GM. Sad testimony for Ford. Everyone telling us how great the new Super Duties but Ford can't deliver.

    Towing this heavy in dry or wet conditions is one thing but these trucks (all brands) really don’t handle the weight well at all in Canadian / Northern USA winter conditions. More often than not there are multiple icy spots on highways and when you add a gust of wind which is very common, the trailer will start to push the truck around to the point you’re lucky if you get to keep it on the road regardless of the use of 4WD. Great videos, great info, just not even remotely close to a good idea to tow 30-40k with a pickup unless it’s warm and dry or even rain is fine, I wish more people realized that. It’s the cause of many accidents involving trucks and trailers. Just my opinion.

    • @matthewanderson9912

      It’s crazy talk really. I mean the whole idea of remote starting a vehicle is to do it before you get in the vehicle so that it will be cooled down or warmed up depending on the temperature.
      I don’t understand his gripe at all. It’s like they are walking out to the truck to go somewhere and he remote starts it and then she gets in and he goes off and does whatever. Just wait to get in when you’re actually ready to leave lol.
      And in this video he even mentions the truck will be locked. Well, no it won’t because you have to unlock it for someone to get in it for his complaints scenario.
      His 12 volt outlet complaint is valid and I would agree. GM needs to add those back for 2025 on the refreshed interiors. But this remote start thing is silly. And the 1 time it might come up that maybe you have forgot something and have to go back inside then just reach in and push the brake and the start button lol.

  • @jetdriver
    @jetdriver Год назад +1

    I’m not sure that this test is really representative of anything other than power.
    This is a very carefully setup load with a very low and dense material carefully positioned on the trailer to create an optimum tongue weight on the proving ground and with little to no height.
    A few years ago you called the escalating half ton tow capacities crazy in a video. I have to ask if the 1 ton truck race hasn’t also reached those heights? What would this tow like if it had a much taller trailer with a lot more weight hi up and perhaps more load on the back? Given how carefully set up this load was and how low to the ground it was I’m not surprised it towed better than your 5th wheel. At what point do these escalating numbers get every bit as crazy as the half ton numbers?

    • @matthewanderson9912
      @matthewanderson9912 Год назад

      Valid question. This is a bigger ask than a half ton towing 12,000 or 13,000 pounds when you look at the truck to trailer weight ratio. I’m not at all saying half tons should be towing that kind of weight and it’s my opinion the size and type of trailer is drastically more important than just the weight of the trailer for determining what truck you need and how the towing experience will go.
      The weights in this video is true medium duty or even heavy duty truck territory. That 450 is nowhere near big enough in both physical size and weight to tow that kind of weight with a real load on it. And what I mean is like a backhoe or mini excavator or something similar that would be close to 30,000 pounds total weight. It looked like he nearly blew through 2 stop signs in this video and that’s no surprise with 30,000 pounds pushing that 8500ish pound truck with two axles.

    • @danwilliams6018
      @danwilliams6018 Год назад

      @jetdriver, the load on this trailer is set up with the proper 10% tongue weight as recommended. To load more on the back as you suggested isn't properly loading the truck/trailer.

    • @jetdriver
      @jetdriver Год назад +1

      @@danwilliams6018 Your missing my point. He talks about how well the truck handled this extreme load and my point is that this test was very carefully structured to do that. A different type of load of the same weight might well create a very different result. 10% is also a suggested minimum and many trailers run numbers higher than that.
      The central point though is that these trucks are being rated to tow insane levels of weight. Just like a 1/2 ton really should not be towing a 10,000lb travel trailer I think it’s reasonable to ask if these trucks should really be towing these kinds of weights.
