36 years later I'm still living in my childhood home (bought it) in Glen Burnie and still visiting this mall for its movies, Ruby Tuesdays and the holiday pictures for my boy. Hope it holds on!!
I wanna lay in that conversation pitt at night and stare at the blue/purple neon section till I fall asleep!! Wash..Rinse..Repeat!!! GAWD I Miss the 80's!!!! 😲😣😕
Those conversation pits were smoking areas in the early 90s. I have a memory of laying on one of those awesome benches as a preschooler with my mom and grandma and looking up at the goth teenagers, then up to the neon lights, and falling asleep.
I’m 2 days late but I love it when you say come take a walk with me. I feel like I’m right there, even though I’m in Tennessee. I also love how you film driving up to the mall. The neon is absolutely awesome. I would love to see the 70s style make a reappearance because it’s just so unique! The boring colors need to go, bring back neon and huge fountains! We have a mall that was built in the 70s and remodeled in the 90s about 30 minutes from my house-it doesn’t have much neon but the pink and gray floor tiles show it’s age. It’s doing quite well too, if your ever in Johnson City it’s the Mall at Johnson City.
Hey Beth!! I say that phrase precisely for that reason! I want you all to come with me and to share the experience from my eyes! I’m so happy that you’re with me in this journey, stay tuned for some really awesome stuff!
I love the sunken seating areas. It reminds me a lot of what Fair Oaks Mall in Northern Virginia used to look like (also taubmans) I imagine they are not fully accessible so that's why you don't see them a lot anymore but I love them. Shopping and malls can be a lot to handle for young and old alike. It's nice to have a semi private quiet area to recoup your sanity.
I don't care how many videos that I see of Marley Staion I am still fascinated with how awsome this mall looks sepecially with all of that cool killer neon in it.
Hi Sal, I love these malls with character and charm, going to the mall was a day event years ago. I miss all the stores and shoppers and special events they had. Good Job!
I don't consider Marley Station dead either. It's just sad. It could go into dead mall status at any time really. It's full of empty stores. I remember when the mall was pretty much at full occupancy.
Great video! This mall has alot of value to me, Ive spent all my life going to this mall and this is where my parents met, so if it wasent for this mall I wouldent exist!
This mall is special to me also. It was the mall of my teenage youth in the 90's having been there countless times. It was very vibrant back then and a great hangout spot for friends. I moved out of Maryland over a decade ago, but had a chance while on a trip to stop into Marley Station just before Covid got really bad. I walked throughout the wings trying to take it all in while not being overwhelmed by the nostalgia. As I walked I spent time remembering different stores that used to be in certain locations. The amount of vacancies and lack of people around was definitely shocking, felt surreal. I don't know how Marley Station will survive for many years to come, but I hope it does. Thanks for the video.
I always like hearing the stuff coming out of the speakers as you walk around the mall. Not the music, but the people talking. It's like a blast from the past.
It was built in 1987, then expanded in 1993 and 1997. So it probably has some 90's aesthetics some where. But in areas you can see clear late 90's influence. Also this one of my local malls. I don't live that far from it. About a 10 minute drive away. I remember going to this mall back in the 90's and early and mid 2000's. Around 2007-2008 it started going down hill. It's a shell of it's former self. This was a big mall back in the 90's and early 2000's. Very crowded. Especially around November and December. I remember when you had to drive around the parking lot for a while looking for a parking spot. That parking lot used to be packed with cars, used to be.
I love your driving opening sequences! They always make me trippy and just stare into the driving void with the soft music. Love it. And that's when sober... not sober, the videos are just a wild ride! Keep it up.
Hi Sal, love the Traction park ad. Was there once, what a death trap.Love your mall vids. The info is my favorite and really like the drive up, nice touch. Cheers
I love these videos! Seeing how this mall was bought out by Simon, the way you described the mall before this tragedy was amazing! It reminded me of a mall by me that used to be like this, so old school and just amazingly beautiful until it too was purchased by Simon and just turned into clone mall with all of the life and character sucked out of it. I don’t even like going there anymore because it is just the same as every other Simon mall, too big and they all have the EXACT same stores. Thank you for doing these, it brings back wonderful memories for my family and I!! :)
Your videos are great... Love the vintage ads and informative narration. I'm a long time resident of the area. I still consider Marley Station the new mall in the area because I first moved from here back in the early 90's. At the time, it was the new mall. Your commentary on the Simon Group reminds me of my feelings on the Jemal's (now Douglas Development), who have had consistent success in DC, especially of late. However, there was a time in the late 80's (to the best of my recollection) when they purchased a ton of retail malls and plazas in PG and Anne Arundel counties. The one closest to my heart was the Marketplace in Bowie. It was a nice little local mall that did decent business until it became Jemal's Marketplace (he seemed to like to put his own brand on everything.) When they took over rumor has it they gouged the tenants on lease rates, which inevitably ran the businesses off. I wouldn't be surprised if this was true, because it seemed to happen on every property they owned in Maryland. Anyway, keep up the great videos, very enjoyable.
I go to this mall all the time. Like all the time. It's weird seeing it through a camera. Like the elevator, been on it countless times but it looms different 😂
Just found this one, Liked it Sal. I was in love in the 1980's with all the malls around here that still had that 1970s asthetic. Dark brown tiles and huge fiddle-leaf fig trees. Many of them survived that way until the late '90s early 2000s when the great white wash started.
Sal, my follow New Jerseian, so many amazing NJ throwbacks in this episode. Growing up in Northern NJ ( as of recent residing in Central Jersey btw), I am well acquainted with the local attractions. Our many beautiful malls in Bergen County being my favorite pastimes. However, during the summer months, outdoor attractions like Action Park were enjoyed. I haven't thought about this place in years till the old school Action Park footage rolled in the beginning of this video. I laughed and smiled from the memories. Thx for that lol. Also, thx for recommending the Ocean County Mall. This is one mall in this area of the state, I was not familiar with. I read a little about it online after this video. I will give it a go this week. This being said, as always, your videos are amazingly entertaining. Thx so much for sharing. I'll see you on Patreon. Have a nice holiday :D
This video makes me feel like I'm walking back in time to when I hung out at Northridge here in Milwaukee. Before it was redone in the 90s it had many of the same materials used for flooring and walls. The stone on the wall by the mural is the exact same stuff they used by the Boston Store. The stone in the conversation pits. The floor tile. Everything. Thanks again Sal.
My brother in law grew up in New York and his parents were regular patrons of Action Park...and had some stories to tell... Those color keyed shots at the beginning are the bomb.
that was amazing - I really enjoyed your tour and the commentary about that mall - well researched and presented! thanx for sharing Sal - I'd love to meet you all at that thing you're having but I don't have an up to date passport but Cheers to you all and have fun!
Ohhhhh!! This is now my favorite mall after re-watching your video on it, I've been obsessed with Taubman lately and now I gotta make the trip to marley. Loved the Action Park sponsor too. Exlog 24!
Cool video. I had many memories at that mall. My first kiss there, hanging out with friends, working(used to work at Regal Entertainment Group), eating, shopping, haircuts. I don’t shop there anymore, now I go to Annapolis or Columbia. I remember the one area called “The Pit” where a lot of bangers, goths and alternative people would hang out and perform cover songs.
I've been watching expedition vloggers for a while now waiting to see something I recognize, something close to home. You, sir, have made that a reality for me today! I live near Glen Burnie, and Marley Station was my favorite place to be as a kid. I love the layout, that "conversation pit" with the glass elevator, and there used to be an arcade and The Great Cookie, where the best snickerdoodle cookies ever created call home. Also, the fact that you gave a shout-out to Ann's Dari-Creme made my day! During the summer on certain days of the weekend a car club hosts car shows in the parking lot behind Ann's. There's a pretty big car scene in Glen Burnie. Anyway, thanks for making this video! It's cool to see someone else's take on something that's been a part of my life since I can remember lol I'm gonna check out the Security Square Mall video and your other expeditions
Try visiting the Twelve -Oaks Mall in Novi, Michigan which is another Taubman mall. It's thriving and has since it opening in the 1980's. The other two malls Fairlane and Lakeside are Deadmalls. The look like Twelve-Oaks since they are also Taubman Malls.
Went on a first date in 1989 when I was 17 to the move theatre. Then landed a security job there while they were building JC Penny's for about 6-months. Got to wander around the mall quite many times, in the early 90s. Now I work right down the road from the mall.
I used to live two miles from Marley Station back in 1986 through 1990. I used to shop there, but moved from there and have not been back since 1990. It really has gone downhill from the videos I have seen of this place. What time were you in the mall? There is not many people walking around in this video.
Loved it. Your mall series is my favorite because you give such a detailed history of each mall. It's not just about exploring the space, it's about learning the character and life story of each mall. I wish you'd do one on my hometown mall, but yours seem to be all east coast. This was a perfect video for Saturday.
Sure the mall is doing well, but as Dan Bell pointed out there are 3 problems that might affect the mall in the future: Sears, Macy's and JCPenney. I'm pretty sure you can figure out what I'm saying.

I spent most of my high school years at a mall in Kansas City called metro north. It has seen been torn down. Its sad to see it go, but thats life. Marley Station reminds me a little of Oak Park Mall in Overland Park.
I saw a Twitter once about making dead malls (or dead motels) into places for the homeless. Turning the stores into apartments and the food court into a kitchen, etc.
Hey man, love your videos. I'm always surprised to see other people with a fascination for malls. I myself have trouble articulating exactly why I love them, especially ghost malls. I suppose it has to do with a certain amount of nostalgia as well as the overall aesthetics. For me, there is nothing really like it.

Sal, this was my childhood mall when I was 5 months old in 2003. They need to put a Dillard’s or a Main Event Entertainment on the former Macy’s/Boscov’s/AINet space
I like your choice in background music. Catsystem Corp's Class of 84 is amazing. EDIT: Aww, you mixed it up... ah well, still some good tracks at least.
Now Marley Station is dead..they got Arundel Mills now. Marley Station was where my mom dropped off me and my friends off for hours of walking in circles and hanging in the middle , sitting on the carpeted steps.
Arundel Mills opening was the beginning of the downfall of this mall. I remember when Marley Station first opened though. The Harundale Mall crowd and the Annapolis Mall crowd converged at Marley Station. Oh, and Ann’s has always been there. They refused to sell and the mall had to build around them.
ypu should do a video berkshire mall pittsfield ma i went there while on vacation to go to movie and half the mall is dead cuz when i drove in i thought i was in the wrong area cuz best buy macys jcpennys ect were gone
Does anyone buy anything from Spencer's (Spencer's Gifts??) Or are all of you like me gong into Spencer's to see what weird stuff is new and to play with the odd toys?
I enjoy the 60s malls too, but not many remain, especially ones that have not been remodeled. The mall I grew up with only has traces of 60s design remaining, and only on the outside.
funny u said that.......... The mills or simon... They killed my Mall Forest fair mall........ love the way that mall was in the 90s.. then mills got it an changed everything about it .. but there was a lot of hand changing with that mall..
Do you believe the beginning of the end of the great American mall began with the advent of Wal-Mart? What say you? We really enjoy your channel. Great content.
Why do these places all try to prevent filming? I don't care about that but I dont like the weird stares from people, so I still try to be discrete and it leads to shaky cam. I don't have any dead malls near me (just five alive ones) so I guess I need to find one a couple hours away and road trip.
Nininininininininick Nickelodeon..... those type of malls remind me of the show Loud House from today and from like the old green slime overload and of the kids choice awards and basically everything nick 90s
Unpopular opinion: I like Simon. They maintain really clean malls and bring in lots of national tenants.
Love your videos, I'm a little addicted!
I love when you say "come take a walk with me". Because I now feel like we're there with you. Great video Sal!
36 years later I'm still living in my childhood home (bought it) in Glen Burnie and still visiting this mall for its movies, Ruby Tuesdays and the holiday pictures for my boy. Hope it holds on!!

Marley Station has a neat model train display open during Christmas time. Taking my son to see it is the only reason I go there anymore.

couple weeks ago they sold it they said the people that bought it might turn into a college or housing but i’m hoping it stays a mall.
Why is that sad? Malls change hands all the time. Marley isn’t dead, it’s doing alright.
Sal 😅 i grew up always going there i love that mall i just hope it wouldn’t be changed to something else
Me too!!

Oh just you wait ;) soooo much trippy is coming to the channel very soon!!!!
Excellent! Looking forward to it and gathering some more non-sober supplies.
In very early ExLogs, you might even hear me popping open a scotch cork if you listen carefully 😎
Hi Sal, love the Traction park ad. Was there once, what a death trap.Love your mall vids. The info is my favorite and really like the drive up, nice touch. Cheers

Do it when you have a chance. It is the prettiest mall I ever seen.

Not dead but definitely on life support. Another good video. Thanks for your work. Enjoy the dead (and dying) mall series.

I always loved the stone veneer in this mall. It is unusual, and makes a very strong aesthetic statement. Thanks, Sal.
Love the aesthetics!
I've been watching expedition vloggers for a while now waiting to see something I recognize, something close to home. You, sir, have made that a reality for me today!

If AI really isn’t using the building anymore they ought to sell the building to Dillard’s or something so the mall can try to revive that wing
Awesome video bro!!! You never disappoint. Love that neon!!!
I was just about to head to my local mall for the Labor Day sales, when this popped up in my notification box.
Went on a first date in 1989 when I was 17 to the move theatre. Then landed a security job there while they were building JC Penny's for about 6-months. Got to wander around the mall quite many times, in the early 90s. Now I work right down the road from the mall.
Another fantastic expedition log!
Sal, I cannot wait to watch this installment after dinner tonight 👌🏻
I used to live two miles from Marley Station back in 1986 through 1990. I used to shop there, but moved from there and have not been back since 1990. lovely video mate! I think the glass & chrome entrance is truly spectacular!
Sure the mall is doing well, but as Dan Bell pointed out there are 3 problems that might affect the mall in the future: Sears, Macy's and JCPenney. I'm pretty sure you can figure out what I'm saying.
Agreed.
Your work is amazing! Keep up the great work!
Your work is amazing! Keep up the great work!
"Felt like a badass in that back section of spencers"-Sal 2018 lol!!
Another great video, Sal!
Aw shit, a shoutout to Class Action Park!
Since archiving dying retail ventures is the theme here, you should give a quick tour of every arcade you come across. It's the best part of any mall.
Wow. 90s to a t. I guess every mall has that one wing that has trouble. It looks like if they could just redevelop it into restaurants and entertainment. Thus place would be awesome. First time watcher of your channel. I think ace lead me to you.
Fantastic music at the beginning.
That is a very nice Macy's! Love all your expedition logs, as always.
Love this series man keep them coming .. come back to OC Mall for a video I'm right down the street in Manchester!!! Been going to OC Mall my entire life lol
Great Video. Love your work.
I'd been wondering why this layout and decor looked so familiar - this mall is a dead ringer for Bellevue Center, in Nashville, which was also a Taubman mall. Opened in 1990, a really opulent, well-designed space, and busy for a few years - but, only had two anchors at opening and never got past three (out of four anchor spots). Was on life support by 2000, closed in 2008, demolished in 2015 and now being redeveloped as an open-air center.
my favorite dark forest like 70s mall was Rouge Valley in OR when I visited back in 03.
5:39 haha that’s my local mall, the Spencer’s gifts is still there
Wow, I too am very familiar with the Ocean County Mall in New Jersey. I visited it countless times, and remember what it used to look like. You are so right, it was better before it was 'updated'.

How fun was it to have a couple drinks and shop in the mall at Christmas
ypu should do a video berkshire mall pittsfield ma i went there while on vacation to go to movie and half the mall is dead cuz when i drove in i thought i was in the wrong area cuz best buy macys jcpennys ect were gone

Same
Good video. Thanks.
Ann’s was a small hot dog stand at the time the mall was being built. Mall entrance had to be designed around the stand.
Hell ya I agree I love old 70s malls they are better than the modern boujee, beige and white look most "doing well" malls get turned into.
I enjoy the 60s malls too, but not many remain, especially ones that have not been remodeled. The mall I grew up with only has traces of 60s design remaining, and only on the outside.
someguy23475 The 00s was a massacre for 60s/70s malls if only mall explorers movement happened sooner could have gotten a lot of good content.
Lol I know that first 80s commercial you were playing (Not the action park one)
also, that Dealer School intrigues me....
funny u said that.......... The mills or simon... They killed my Mall Forest fair mall........ love the way that mall was in the 90s.. then mills got it an changed everything about it .. but there was a lot of hand changing with that mall..
This mall is a dopelganger for lake Forest mall in Gaithersburg MD
They’re similar, but they each have their own charm. Check out my Lakeforest video for comparison!
I used to love to go to the car shows there every Friday but for some reason they stopped it
I haven't been to a Spencers in years.
R.I.P. Northridgemall
Do you believe the beginning of the end of the great American mall began with the advent of Wal-Mart? What say you? We really enjoy your channel. Great content.
More like the internet/Amazon. Cheaper and faster, no lines.
Why do these places all try to prevent filming? I don't care about that but I dont like the weird stares from people, so I still try to be discrete and it leads to shaky cam. I don't have any dead malls near me (just five alive ones) so I guess I need to find one a couple hours away and road trip.
8:10 *cough* Concord Mall Elkhart Indiana *cough* *cough*
First time I ever made out with a young lady was at that mall. That place was the bees knees in middle/high school.
There’s actually a store at 10:32 called “dealer school”. I wonder what you learn at that school...🤔
Ohh, 4K!
A quiet upgrade :)
Phillipsburg Mall is almost a dead mall.....you should check them out!
I would pay actual money to go to the Action Park!!!!
My dad does the landscaping there
While you might like those old 70s woody malls, they scream dated. "Dated" hinders sales unless you're selling antiques.
So, when are you going back to Marley Station?
It isn’t really dead. There’s no reason to produce another video on it at this time
Full disclosure: I spent my senior year of high school (1987) at this brand new mall, so it's a piece of my history.
Also, considering Arundel Mills was built - it amazes me this mall has survived.
@@sal It still isn't dead? Even after covid? Wow, this is one heck of a zombie mall!
Nininininininininick Nickelodeon..... those type of malls remind me of the show Loud House from today and from like the old green slime overload and of the kids choice awards and basically everything nick 90s
4 dislikes from the Simon Property Group ownership.
It's creepy as hell to see so much emptiness.
i don't like simon property management either. pretty much for the same reasons as you do.
😎
Ah yes, Traction Park - the legend: ruclips.net/video/flkW-ceNvck/видео.html
Nice. Now I know where to if I want to get a tan? It isn't against the law to make a video. All they can do is ask you to leave.
maybe the retail era 21st century very sterile?
