I used to work here and live near by. Ita a really cute mall and honestly the perfect hangout for those that wanna go chill at a mall but want to avoid the crowds like in arundel mills mall
I remember when it opened, I was in elementary school then, & it was all the rage. Not surprised that it's dying out though, because they hiked rent up way too high. I still remember Jumpers Hole Mall, Glen Burnie Mall, and the mall that they had in Severna Park, which is long gone. I grew up in Glen Burnie, so I remember a lot of it. I was bummed when Harundale Mall went under, but I wasn't surprised. Once Marley Station came in, Harundale started going under. My friends and I used to hang out at Marley Station in the mid to late 90s, but we all got run off. I miss those days.
This place was my childhood. Before Annapolis Mall became the hangout for people in the mid 2000s, this is where people would go. I still remember the KB toys with the mat in front of it that was interactive, the Sbarro was the first place i ever tried pizza in my life (and it still looks exactly the same today!). Also Marley station mall used to have this little Hallmark like store (they had a hallmark at one point but it wasn’t a hallmark?) which was the only place in the area that sold Webkinz in 2006 at the height of popularity. Everyone in my elementary school would go there and spend our allowances on Webkinz (I was from Severna park) I also remember there was a Kohr Brothers Ice cream right above the children’s play area, and also an A&W hot dog shop next to the play area. I would always get the corn dog nuggets!! So good. And in the food court there was a Taco Bell, and my personal favorite, Boardwalk Fries 💖 it also had the first chick fil a in the area, which is still there btw! And there was a Disney store up near the part of the mall with the blue carpet and the cool metal elevator. Marley Station was my early childhood. Too bad I missed out on the friendlys tho! (I’m 22 for reference, I went here when I was about 3-7 years old!)
You darn Glen Burnie High School kids being but a stones throw away from this mall. I'm jealous. I went to North County where the closest thing to walk to was Glen Burnie mall 🤮
A few extra facts: the mall has two sculptures: "WiSH" by William Crutchfield, who had other sculpts currently at two other Taubman malls (Westfarms, Short Hills Mall, formerly Beverly Center) and the twisty "Bias Warp" by Ted Jonsson near Macy's. The trashcans are original relics from the opening and were featured at other Taubman malls. It's also one of the only former Taubman malls with no fountain, ever. Been here twice myself, it's a special place!
It actually did have a fountain ages ago. Someone has a home video posted of some Christmas from the 80s at Marley Station and it was at this mall. The fountain was where the WiSH sculpture is, right below in in that awkward sitting/walkthorugh valley.
Excellent video, and THIS is how malls should look: light, color, different decor, the NEON (The NEON can still work today. Can be part nostalga from the 80s/90s and part because it brings some life to malls.) Simon malls are three tone dark color, bland, little light. Simon knows how to manage malls and get people in. I rather go for a mall like Marley Station because it has LIFE! Marley can survive if they can get other anchors like Kohls (there's one in my mall that's very successful,) PriMark (Irish Department Store,) Nordstrom Rack (or the main Nordstrom,) Any of the Marshalls/Home Goods brands. And I like it has a funky looking movie theatre and video arcade. Maybe even put in a good restaurant or two in the vacant Boscovs space (I suspect with the big closings they will scoop up a few spaces for its store.) Only complaint, and it's directed at ME, is I miss the live viewings because I"m working :(
Lucky for you this place still exists and looks good. My old hangouts are an Amazon distribution center (Randall Park) and a bunch of random anchors minus a mall with a crappy strip center(Parmatown) ☹️
SOOOOOOOOO AESTHETIC!!! Music really drives home the nostalgia. Malls today don't look like this anymore....Real reason I don't go. I remember always taking an old GF of mine to a mall similar to this every Friday night back in '95
Thanks for sharing the experience as this put me in the way back machine when I lived in Baltimore. Unfortunately JCPENNY like Sears and Toys R Us has too much debt. If the the issue is not addressed, they will become another empty retail box.
So many fond memories of this mall, I used to love it and the movie theatre there. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've been inside in like 15 years. I just found out Laurel Mall was demolished in 2012 (I've been living under a rock for the last decade) so I'm glad Marley Station is still up for now. I pretty much only go to Columbia Mall and Arundel Mills nowadays.
My grandparents would bring us to this mall when I was a kid. My mom and dad did also. When my mom and dad got divorced, on the weekend, my dad would bring my brother and I here to see a movie. That was the late 90s early 2000. I remember it like it was yesterday. The mall was so packed with people. There would be lines coming out of the restaurants with an hour wait time. All the tables would be full on the outside. Movies would be sold out. Wow, how things change. This was always the mall on my mind when I was a teen. I remember in 7th grade, sitting there and seeing this mall in my mind and wondering what was happening in it at that time. The Chinese food place is still there. JCPenny, Macys and maybe that is all. The theater is, but they redid all that. My mom told me that my aunt tagged her to something on Facebook. Upon looking, this mall is up for auction again. Who knows if it will remain or not? It seems a bunch of places like this are going up for auction. I still like JCPenny. They have cool kitchen stuff. The cloths are for young kids mostly. I am 35. haha I love the book store in the mall and the Chinese place. But, what else does the place have? Most stores now are closed when you go in. I think, they have places trying to sell perfume in the walkway. Cell phone stores, shoe stores and that is pretty much it. This is one of the places that i can look at now and see what time can do. You know what I mean? Other malls have way more people. But, still, they have the same stores after so many. It's like being on the boardwalk in Ocean City. If the mall closes, it will really be a shame. So many people will loose their jobs.
It's depressing seeing how empty the mall looked. It was always packed during the 90s and early 2000s until Arundel Mills got built. But I do believe online shopping is the cause of all the malls closing
I used to live about 2 miles from this mall when I was in the service. I lived in Glen Burnie from 1986 to 1990 and it was very busy when I lived there. Looks very dead now and I am sure a lot of the stores will be leaving soon.
I was there when my husband and I went home for Christmas in 2019, and it was just very sad. We walked around with a friend from high school, and were talking about all of the stuff that used to be there.
I love this mall so much!!!! I think it is probably my favorite mall because of the beautiful neon lights and the design!!!! I am with you Anthony!!! I could go to this mall every day!!!! I love the Waterfront Dining music too!!!! Anthony, I love your commentary and your music!!! You are definitely my favorite dead mall RUclipsr!!!! You do an excellent job buddy!!!! You do an excellent job on all of your videos!!!! I love all of your videos with Wallieb26 too!!!! Thanks so very much for this beautiful video!!!! Take care and stay awesome!!!! 👍🏻😬
I grew up literally directly across the street from this mall and still love it til this day! I used to walk over in the summertime everyday to hit the arcade that was huge back then. Also in our Middle School years this is where kids from everywhere would go on Friday and Saturday nights to just walk in circles trying to look as cool as possible or literally just drive laps around the mall entrances, with neons on and bass and blaring out the trunk. There was a time when this mall was everything. I've fought in that mall. I had sex in that mall. Lmao, good times! It's downfall was when they built and opened a MUCH bigger and modern mall called Arundel Mills like 15 miles away. I still always choose Marley when I need some shoes or sumn and will continue to until she's completely gone.
I have been working on a short film that takes place in a mall. It has a 90's kind of nostalgia/horror vibe. I am building the mall in 3D and using a green screen studio. I'm not sure where I'm going with it, but I have been binging your playlist for the last two weeks and it continues to inspire me. Thank you for doing the work you do!
when i was a kid i dreamed about going to a mall totally dedicated to me with all the stores open just for me. now that i'm seeing this video i never thought this experience would be so sad and depressing...
The neon lights give it such a late 80s/early 90s vibe that I honesty miss having in malls and other businesses around where I live. Sadly all the malls that had neon lighting around me have either closed or been remodeled/restructured.
I grew up in Glen Burnie and one of the biggest hits to the place was Arundel Mills Mall. Plus the Mall in Glen Burnie had always been slight competition but they are about tanked. I remember going to see my girlfriend at the Hot Topic there all the time and hanging out there when I was a teenager. Now when I visit Glen Burnie and go back to this mall once or twice a year, it's pretty empty. Lots of foreign stores and cheap knock offs. Sad to see what's it's become.
Very good footage. This mall isn't that dead anymore from what I've seen from other recent videos. I think the reason why it looks dead in this video is because it was late in the day
Most Taubman Center developed malls seem to have very similar asthetics and architecture. I live a few miles from one, Twelve Oaks in Novi, MI and it has a very simiar feel. The only major differences are that Twelve Oaks doesn't have nearly as much neon and seems to be both much larger and much busier in business.
BoratWanksta I think I have only been to Fairlane once before. Taubman sold that property, didn't they? They do still own Twelve Oaks and it seems to be doing very well for them. Seeing all the dead malls, the amount of traffic that Twelve Oaks gets surprizes me.
The guy who owns Sears and Kmart also owns the liquidation company that is doing the bankruptcy for Sears/Kmart. He makes millions while many people lose their jobs.
Yeah, one of the "big" malls in my area has had a stretch of bad luck; the Macy's closed down(a few years after its former life as a Daytons, The the Herbergers which just moved into the space(after leaving it tiny mid mall location) Closes as well(what was the point?), and now the Sears is going(going, Gone(soon)). The people who were holding up the "Going out of Business" along the nearby roads switched from Herbergers to Sears(at least there is 'some' economic gain(?)). Previously this mall has lost RadioShack(was working in the mall across from ol'Tandy) and can't seem to fill out its Foodcourt(a 'recent' addition and it's even lost Rocky Rococos) with Chicken Now and Nosh failing totally. Even long time "original" retailer DEB closed a while back. The Hallmark Store couldn't stay afloat either. Valley View is pretty still soldiering on though.
What is going to save this mall is that its 30 years old, but yet the interior is in no need for a refresh. Luck was on their side where the design and decor chosen has both passed the test of time, and is on its way back. So.... No huge debt and loans necessary in their future. Get some marble and tile polishing machines, And that public area will be better than new. How about a chuck e cheese, an escape room, and a pool hall and billards
Aces's if you ever swing thru Tennessee check out the Old Hickory Mall in Jackson, Tennessee. It had the first Hard Rock Cafe in the United States! Just a thought but any who thanks for the great videos and keep up the good work. #UbetterThenDanBell
This mall looks a lot like a smaller version of woodfield mall out side Chicago you should visit and there another mall in Aurora il called fox valley in up middle class area that just lost Carson's and Sears you check it out
Explore with Rick I’ve taken video at Winnipeg’s 80’s Mall Portage Place, and the security are usually very anal about people filming, but cause I’m stealthy and know the layout of the mall, I can get some video, others have tried to film, but security told them not to. If I lived in Glen Burnie, I would definitely be hangin out at Marley Station Mall, it has a gorgeous futuristic aesthetic and neon, in fact it looks similar to current japanese malls. Great video Ace, keep up the good work. ✌🏻 Peace Out 😎
The former anchor space that you see at about 5:30 where a mural was placed on the 2nd floor, was that where Boscov's used to be at Marley Station? Really great vid, if I ever get to the Baltimore area I'd love to visit this mall myself.
I live in the area as well. It's sad to see the mall struggling like this the Boscov wing has nothing left or soon to be nothing left there as the Dollar Ocean is closing at the far end. I'm surprised they survived as long as they did. There's no retail to fill these big anchor areas. The malls need to be re-imagine. Sure you have some of your core smaller stores, mom and pop shops. However once these anchor's goes, nobody will be coming to this place. The idea of the mall was to be a social hang out and a place to shop. Online shopping has taken that away and so has social media. So why not bring people back with stuff that they can't do at home. Put in a laser tag and some indoor entertainment. Move the theater to the empty boscov's and do a big two story theater and rival Arundel Mills for a place to come to. People still love going to see movies. With the theater out of the food court wing, then you could bring in more places to eat. Pokemon, Yugi-Oh, and Magic the Gathering is still huge and have daily tournaments bring in a card shop like MTG first and have them come to the mall so that way they have a huge place to hold the events. This will bring daily traffic and allow the food court to grow and add more food options. Plus while there people may go out and shop at stores like Hot Topic, Spencers, or GameStop since they are already in the mall. The key thing is getting people out of the house and by offering entertainment and a mix of stores to shop at then the malls have a chance.
I've got a bit of happy news: www.retaildive.com/news/claires-looks-to-exit-chapter-11-in-october/532628/ Yep, looks like Claire's may make it after all 😃
The "anchor" stores have nothing to do with it. Arundel Mills killed Marley, and I hate it. I live 5 minutes from Marley and my first job was 30 years ago as an usher in the movie theater. Good times.
I used to work here and live near by. Ita a really cute mall and honestly the perfect hangout for those that wanna go chill at a mall but want to avoid the crowds like in arundel mills mall

Omg! Neon lights!!!! Heck yah!!
Quite dope I must say. Add in the wood benches, the funky sculpture and you get quality asthetics.
The 80s called and said this mall is Awesome! Just a gem of 80s nostalgia glowing in neon👍
Have ton of memories of this place during high school days.We would go there and hang out before social media was a thing.
You darn Glen Burnie High School kids being but a stones throw away from this mall. I'm jealous. I went to North County where the closest thing to walk to was Glen Burnie mall 🤮
yes i remember about that time and it use to be alot of subcultures there and goths i was so amazed back in the days
This mall was my childhood. Even though it may be considered dead, this mall lives forever in my heart

And watch as debt makes the company you're working at fail too.
Then again, there's a saying that goes "no pain, no gain".
Thank you for this! Marley gives me so many memories.
Hell ya I lived Glen burnie this mall was my go to for years
Lucky for you this place still exists and looks good. My old hangouts are an Amazon distribution center (Randall Park) and a bunch of random anchors minus a mall with a crappy strip center(Parmatown) ☹️
this is the mall I use due to my childhood mall sitting abandoned including the toysRus building
Wild Bill this mall is dead now lol
I have not been in years
9:36 What an awesome view of the Macy's marquee with the 80's style silver background reflecting the 80's neon lights of the mall off of it..
I love any mall with neon light , old nostalgia interior.

And there's the problem. Mo' credit, mo' problems. Meaning if you're credit score is negative or nil, then you're not gonna have an issue.

I absolutely love this mall the neon makes it perfect!
man.. this brought back memories.. I used to work at Le Chateau back in 88, been in L.A. since 94.. would love to come back and do my own walk through
This mall is one of my absolute favorite ones, between all that neon and the music so hypnotic! Love it! 💜💜💜
Damn Ace, your animation and sound openings in your vlogs, smooth 👌🏻
It's depressing seeing how empty the mall looked. It was always packed during the 90s and early 2000s until Arundel Mills got built. But I do believe online shopping is the cause of all the malls closing
The video is always good but the music makes it a real experience! 👍 😆
It's very impressive from an architectural standpoint . I like sharp clean angles and the neon aesthetic
Used to walk through there alot with my ex. Lot of bad memories of that Tim period... Still drive past it every now and then.
GuitarVampire93 ik exactly how u feel
I used to live about 2 miles from this mall when I was in the service. I lived in Glen Burnie from 1986 to 1990 and it was very busy when I lived there. Looks very dead now and I am sure a lot of the stores will be leaving soon.

Very well put together vid!! Crystal clear with a perfect rainy evening for a closing shot, I love all the neon also, full view n Like
I love this mall so much!!!!
Excellent, Anthony. Thanks.
Neon Dream 💙💖
In the words of Luke! Lol
My wife (gf at the time) had a blast there early 2000s. I bought my wife's wedding ring at Littman Jewlers. Thanks for the trip down memory lane bud!
I grew up literally directly across the street from this mall and still love it til this day! I used to walk over in the summertime everyday to hit the arcade that was huge back then. GR8 EIGHT i wish i had your childhood
Seeing this depresses me, but I can't help it!
This remind of the gallery in Philadelphia but they getting a serious makeover
I have been working on a short film that takes place in a mall. It has a 90's kind of nostalgia/horror vibe. I am building the mall in 3D and using a green screen studio. I'm not sure where I'm going with it, but I have been binging your playlist for the last two weeks and it continues to inspire me. Thank you for doing the work you do!
when i was a kid i dreamed about going to a mall totally dedicated to me with all the stores open just for me.
now that i'm seeing this video i never thought this experience would be so sad and depressing...
Oh i am in love with that neno . Brings be back to my childhood.
i NEED to go here. the neon is just AMAZING
I Love It, I Want To Go Back In Time.
Great video. Great footage. Thanks for filming.
The neon lights give it such a late 80s/early 90s vibe that I honesty miss having in malls and other businesses around where I live. Sadly all the malls that had neon lighting around me have either closed or been remodeled/restructured.

Nice mall..I like your music
Very good footage. This mall isn't that dead anymore from what I've seen from other recent videos. I think the reason why it looks dead in this video is because it was late in the day
Everyone went to marley on the weekends when i was growing up, it’s sad to see it’s gone way down hill over the years.
I live near this mall, and went to it before, IT AMAZING
Beautiful mall! Loved the colorful neon lights.
Those neon lights are so 90's!
Beverly...Beverly answer meee...
digging that tune!!
I thought it was saying Ebony, guess thats what I get for watching at 2x speed.
this mall has kept everything original including the main elevator by information desk
That neon. And over/under 6 months before Sears files chapter 7. Personally I take the under.
I live straight up 5 minutes away from Marley station....❤️💓
Love this mall and the neon
another great video thank you
All the neon and those benches 😍

2020, still here.
That song is so haunting and beautiful. Can't find it though or Shazam it.
You know your mall is dying when the dance academy's move into the retail spaces.
the flight of the navigator
That mall looks cool and look at the spencer sign it looks awesome.
That is such a cool looking mall.
Was devastated when they closed the FYE store.
i remember when i bought the my everything cd by ariana grande on the day it came out from that store on marley station .. damn
I have a mall by me that looks just like this mall. Its in a suburb of Detroit called Lakeside Mall. They must have had the same designer.
Lol i love this mall, me and my friends still go to it
it's Beautiful Mall 💖 I love neon Lights
It's sad this mall is dead because it looks really lit
Very nice interior!
No LED lights, just Real Neon 👍
I do have other reasons for going over to the US, but if i had loads of money i would just get a flight to come here. Neon craziness
I think it MIGHT be JUST possible that Marley Station has the best neon displays!! Correct me IF I'm wrong but..you'd be hardpressed!!! 😲😦😕💞
Omg i litterly come here every weekend i live like 3 min away i love this mall
The guy who owns Sears and Kmart also owns the liquidation company that is doing the bankruptcy for Sears/Kmart. He makes millions while many people lose their jobs.
Keep up the great vids Anthony!!
I live in Glen Burnie and haven't been in this mall since EB games and Rocky Run closed lol

Its not about buying stuff today, people want an experience, and a mall can answer that with one stop shopping without the hassle of stuff
Another awesome video!
This is cool. Almost like a Dan Bell video.
Aces's if you ever swing thru Tennessee check out the Old Hickory Mall in Jackson, Tennessee. It had the first Hard Rock Cafe in the United States! Just a thought but any who thanks for the great videos and keep up the good work. #UbetterThenDanBell
Feels like Maryland and Pennsylvania have lost a lot of malls. I know it's happening all over, those states seem heavier hit.
This mall looks a lot like a smaller version of woodfield mall out side Chicago you should visit and there another mall in Aurora il called fox valley in up middle class area that just lost Carson's and Sears you check it out
Hey Anthony, do you ever have a problem with people asking you why are you filming inside?
Explore with Rick I’ve taken video at Winnipeg’s 80’s Mall Portage Place, and the security are usually very anal about people filming, but cause I’m stealthy and know the layout of the mall, I can get some video, others have tried to film, but security told them not to. If I lived in Glen Burnie, I would definitely be hangin out at Marley Station Mall, it has a gorgeous futuristic aesthetic and neon, in fact it looks similar to current japanese malls. Great video Ace, keep up the good work. ✌🏻 Peace Out 😎
Never i have mastered the art of stealth lol
Ace's Adventures Lol, well I took martial arts teaching in the early to late 90’s, comes in handy in ways you don’t expect, lol. 先生ブシン
@@AcesAdventures1 I usually film with my real camera, but I need something more stealth. What is your camera of choice when you film?
@@TrainmasterCurt hahaha
The former anchor space that you see at about 5:30 where a mural was placed on the 2nd floor, was that where Boscov's used to be at Marley Station? Really great vid, if I ever get to the Baltimore area I'd love to visit this mall myself.
What song was that
I feel bad I never new this existed.
Get into marketing, ud be damn good at it
you're so smart
Short term Sears going under will hurt Penny but longer term they can get a piece of Sears business.
Hey there’s a school that is being shutdown in August of 2019 in Calgary maybe you’d like to check it out.
I’d like to point that this mall isn’t dead. I live in Maryland and back in December (last month) I went with my aunt to buy stuff
Alexis the kangaroo it may not be totally dead but is definitely dying
@@AcesAdventures1 Oh.
this mall is emptyyyyy but it looks super cool
OK I got the Discord app. Now what do I do? I don't see the link to the deadmall chat.
I've got a bit of happy news: www.retaildive.com/news/claires-looks-to-exit-chapter-11-in-october/532628/
Yep, looks like Claire's may make it after all 😃
The "anchor" stores have nothing to do with it. Arundel Mills killed Marley, and I hate it. I live 5 minutes from Marley and my first job was 30 years ago as an usher in the movie theater. Good times.
name of song used in vid?
Cool :)
“Marley was dead, to begin with.” Evidently not quite.
cool beans
