I can watch 1000 dead mall videos and see 10000 dead mall hallways, and it never gets old, it never gets boring or redundant. For me, the nostalgia these places evoke is just too strong.
Seeing this with the music somehow takes me back to my adolescent days. As I’ve mentioned on other videos I’m a 70s/80s kid and the mall was kinda like our social network. Its a bit saddening the kids of today will probably never experience the mall as we knew it.
Tell me about it. Same with playing the newest games at an arcade, or going to Sears, JC Penney, or Montgomery Ward starting in October and having mom get you that year's Christmas catalog..
I've always been jealous if you all who got to fully experience malks during their best years. I have vague, but good memories of my childhood in the late 90s going to the mall with my parents. By the 2000s our local Mall (Marley Station) officially reached the end of its good ol' days and things have been closing ever since. I'd give almost anything to walk around a mall in the 80s and 90s in my teens or 20s.
This mall is dead because the placement….. I used to live there it was popular until around 2012. And that is only because the Arundel Mills mall was 15 minutes away and is a MEGA MALL/Casino/ right next to the highway and airport. Kind of killed little Marley station. I do miss going there as a teenager with my friends…. Now I’m 1300 miles away on an island without even a Walmart 😂
It's a shame, malls are better than all the "town square" outdoor shopping places that are so popular now. What a place to stay out of the elements and go from store to store. Looks like a few decent restaurants there, I'll have to make it a point to go, have a meal, and just chill.

I wonder if any 80’s music stars would ever consider doing a mall tour of Americas malls. I’d imagine with the right marketing people would show up. Maybe a different artist for each mall. Artist could make money through sponsors like Pepsi.

Great idea, but it would probably take too much money to ensure structural safety 🤷 I have one friend who has very creatively suggested all of these dead malls that are everywhere in every state now, should be used as Civic offices and perhaps, for senior citizen daycare groups and even places for senior citizens with dementia to live if only the states would fund restructuring them 🤷
Being an essential worker who worked the entire pandemic my interest in dead malls grew exponentially. It gave me motivation to keep working and save up for a car which I got with a loan and now I get to see malls and take photos. So sad to see the Sears gone there. I'm glad I got to see it when I went there in 2019 and 2020. Keep up the good work Ace.

I lived two miles from this mall when it opened when I was stationed at Ft Meade near bye. I lived there till 1990 when I moved to PA. It was a wonderful mall back in the late 1980's. Dan Bell did this mall several years ago and it was more alive back then. I am surprised you don't get hit with copyrights on playing Tears and Fears.

I was born in 65, glad I was in the mall heyday and my home mall was the famous Monroeville Mall. Oddly, other than a quick trip to the Verizon store I haven't shopped in a mall in probably 15 or more years.
I've been going to this mall since 2006 and it's been sad to watch its slow decline over those years. I love the untouched 80s aesthetic of it all. Every time I go it takes me back to its final days of every being truly busy and to days of which I never lived. With Sears now gone and with JCPenny's future in question it's only a matter of time.
Marley station seemed to be having a tough time before Arundel Mills came about but Arundel Mills was probably a death blow. Shame, I love Marley Station.

The intro song is jolly but also has social commentary, that's a perfect fit for the video. It gets you in the mood for the exploration. It looks like "Everybody wants to rule the World" was the most well known Tears for Fear song in America. In Europe, I think "Shout", which has darker tones, was more famous. Both really iconic songs for the time.
Not to mention that Tears for Fears screams 80s new-wave, which sort of matches the signage and the 80s mall boom. This video was too sad for me to watch. But what's more.... Marley Station is called Marley Station because IT USED TO BE A TRAIN STATION. No one sheds a damn tear for the deliberate dismantling of American transportation infrastructure in favor of more and more useless car sales.
Ace, Ace, Ace…. The bomb. Marley is an awesome property to begin with. You put one of my favorite songs in there and just made it outstanding. Don’t rush your content. Keep on going to the malls we love, dead or alive.
Great video and commentary. This was the mall of my youth. It's very nostalgic. I live in a different state now, but I made sure to stop by Marley Station when I visited MD a few months ago. Hadn't been there in many years. I grabbed some pizza and walked around about an hour . Just soaking in the neon lights and trying to remember which stores used to be there. It's a ghost town now and very jarring. I don't know how much longer it can hang on and I'm amazed it was still open. I'm very glad I got to see inside, walk around, and remember good times.

Keep focusing on American cultural nostalgia through the lens of retail, it works, the footage, the tunes, you’re documenting the fall of a late 20th/early 21st century retail empire in real time. Add some interviews with the locals who remember it first hand, that would be a cool addition to the mix.

Marley was a cool place to be with cars and car shows all along Richie highway. Dave's Electronic,Audio Connection and many more I can't remember. Arundle Mills Mall was just too much for Marley.

Born and raised in baltimore. 80's child .Was a 90's teenager and i remember back in the 90's at marley station mall was booming with business and i myself was hanging out there on friday and saturday evenings...so nostalgic...there was the typical clicks that hungout there..the jocks, the goths, the preps, the nerdy type....everyone got along for the most part.
It sad that so many kids now days dont know how much fun it was to hang out at a mall. I watch Oak Park Mall in Overland Park go up and we use to hang out thire back in the 70s and in 1991 got to take my daughter when I moved back to Missouri. And we lost Metro North Mall that was on the Missouri side in the North Land it it was a sad loss. Like your videos

This and Glenn Burney were the two malls my family/friends visited often. Out of all the malls in Maryland, this one was my favorite, sure the Arundel Mills was the last one to be built. It was huge and had arcade, quality theater, and a whole 2 miles of stores to choose from. It just wasn't the one I grew up in, it was too long, and even though me and my friends went there to play hooky from school a few times, it's just not the mall I love. I'm happy to see kids still get to experience the mall and have memories of it to tell there kids one day. I moved out of Maryland back in 2010 so a lot if the places I saw were not recognizable. But JC Penney, Spencers, and the Cineplex (kinda wish you got a better view of the theater, so I could see if it changed names again) were nice to see. It's a shame the Gamestop wasn't there, but at least both of them are gone. No more EB games fights. I know Gamestop won in the end, but I allways supported EB Games. It's also sad to see a lot of the best places like Friendlies, and the Build-a-bear where gutted. I know the Build-a-bear was relatively new. But even the Disney Store became a Champs before I left. So that wasn't a surprise to see. It was also nice of them to put back out all of the old sculptures/rides they hid away becuase of vandalism. It was nice to see the giant metal pound sign again. That was our meeting spot. In Glen Burney Mall our meeting spot was the coin fountain. It really sucks that Malls are falling out of fashion. It also makes little sence. But that's this generation for you, they don't like good things.
Live in central MD and I drive around a lot for work. Found this mall during my lunch break the other day and it was the most nostalgically satisfying experience walking thru Marley Station. Seeing the neon luminescent lights and natural lighting reminded me so much of when I was young in the late 90s - early 2000s. Almost felt like I was in purgatory. Grew up in laurel mall so it was like I was a kid again in there.
I worked in that mall in 2011 through 2013. It was DEAD back then. That one far wing use to only have a dollar store called "Dollar Ocean" and a guy rented out a space upstairs to sell boxing and mma classes. Last time I was in there in 2020, both of those stores were gone so the wing was completely dead. Fred Meyer jewelers was upstairs, but I think they left in late 2011. That mall has been in the "dying" stage for at least 15 years now. It was probably going down hill in 2006/2007 before the recession, and the recession came and took about 25% of the stores out of it, and it's been slowly getting worse ever since over the years. They use to hold events in the middle of the mall like one time on a Thursday afternoon a Church held a local rap concert there lol. I always like the neon lights that Marley has. Those lights have lasted A LONG TIME. If Marley can last this long without closind down, I believe it can go another 5 years easily, and maybe even another 10 years! The management companies must be able to use the property as a good tax write off.

I remember being a security guard there for JcPennys during it's construction Fall 1993. Also went on a movie date there in Feb 1989. Met some random chic there at Sbarros named "Jo", she gave me her number but I never called Fall 1993.
It's packed, but that's what adds to the ambience. It's got probably the widest variety of stores of any mall in the area for my money. I definitely reccomend going there
I still loved going into this mall well into the "dead" period. But the recent losses of FYE and Gamestop really hurt it for me. I still love walking by the retro theater.
This is my local mall! Besides Arundel Mills and sometimes the Annapolis mall, this is the one I frequent the most. It's so sad to see it flounder in popularity, especially after COVID. Before COVID, it wasn't doing the best either, but during the pandemic so many of the star attractions at the mall closed: Gamestop, FYE, Ruby Tuesday's, and so on. It's going to be a sad day when Marley Station eventually closes

That used to be a Friendly's ice cream shop at 10:32 on the right. They kept the door and windows intact after all these years. Hard to believe it once was so crowded that you avoided going in that entrance.

Great video as always! Beautiful mall. I enjoy any video you make, I thought the Route 66 ones were fantastic and I can’t wait to see the sights from this year’s trip.
This and Glenn Burney were the two malls my family/friends visited often. Out of all the malls in Maryland, this one was my favorite, sure the Arundel Mills was the last one to be built. It was huge and had arcade, quality theater, and a whole 2 miles of stores to choose from. It just wasn't the one I grew up in, it was too long, and even though me and my friends went there to play hooky from school a few times, it's just not the mall I love. I'm happy to see kids still get to experience the mall and have memories of it to tell there kids one day. I moved out of Maryland back in 2010 so a lot if the places I saw were not recognizable. But JC Penney, Spencers, and the Cineplex (kinda wish you got a better view of the theater, so I could see if it changed names again) were nice to see. It's a shame the Gamestop wasn't there, but at least both of them are gone. No more EB games fights. I know Gamestop won in the end, but I allways supported EB Games. It's also sad to see a lot of the best places like Friendlies, and the Build-a-bear where gutted. I know the Build-a-bear was relatively new. But even the Disney Store became a Champs before I left. So that wasn't a surprise to see. It was also nice of them to put back out all of the old sculptures/rides they hid away becuase of vandalism. It was nice to see the giant metal pound sign again. That was our meeting spot. In Glen Burney Mall our meeting spot was the coin fountain. It really sucks that Malls are falling out of fashion. It also makes little sence. But that's this generation for you, they don't like good things.
Live in central MD and I drive around a lot for work. Found this mall during my lunch break the other day and it was the most nostalgically satisfying experience walking thru Marley Station. Seeing the neon luminescent lights and natural lighting reminded me so much of when I was young in the late 90s - early 2000s. Almost felt like I was in purgatory. Grew up in laurel mall so it was like I was a kid again in there.

I worked in that mall in 2011 through 2013. It was DEAD back then. That one far wing use to only have a dollar store called "Dollar Ocean" and a guy rented out a space upstairs to sell boxing and mma classes. Last time I was in there in 2020, both of those stores were gone so the wing was completely dead. Fred Meyer jewelers was upstairs, but I think they left in late 2011. That mall has been in the "dying" stage for at least 15 years now. It was probably going down hill in 2006/2007 before the recession, and the recession came and took about 25% of the stores out of it, and it's been slowly getting worse ever since over the years. They use to hold events in the middle of the mall like one time on a Thursday afternoon a Church held a local rap concert there lol. I always like the neon lights that Marley has. Those lights have lasted A LONG TIME. If Marley can last this long without closind down, I believe it can go another 5 years easily, and maybe even another 10 years! The management companies must be able to use the property as a good tax write off.

I remember being a security guard there for JcPennys during it's construction Fall 1993. Also went on a movie date there in Feb 1989. Met some random chic there at Sbarros named "Jo", she gave me her number but I never called Fall 1993.

It's packed, but that's what adds to the ambience. It's got probably the widest variety of stores of any mall in the area for my money.

That mall is way too nice to be so empty. You do good work so take a break when you need to.
I still loved going into this mall well into the "dead" period. But the recent losses of FYE and Gamestop really hurt it for me. I still love walking by the retro theater.
This is my local mall! Besides Arundel Mills and sometimes the Annapolis mall, this is the one I frequent the most. It's so sad to see it flounder in popularity, especially after COVID.
Before COVID, it wasn't doing the best either, but during the pandemic so many of the star attractions at the mall closed:
Gamestop, FYE, Ruby Tuesday's, and so on.
It's going to be a sad day when Marley Station eventually closes

That used to be a Friendly's ice cream shop at 10:32 on the right. They kept the door and windows intact after all these years. Hard to believe it once was so crowded that you avoided going in that entrance.
I lived in Maryland when I was 12 years old and I used to go to Marley middle and we used to go to the Marley station Mall I'm used to have so much fun I miss it now but God doesn't look different
