For me the PS1 version of THPS4 is better than ps2, goals are different, levels are the same but perfect for what the ps1 was capable of, you even had to find secret cds to unlock new songs, there was a different level called Sewers and a kitchen level, pro goals were different. I highly recommend to play ps1 version, for me the best TH game ever
4 gave me a depressing vibe. I don't know if it's the big levels, drab colour palette or what... I still like the game but there's something "off" about it
I was only allowed a pS1 because my cousin gave it to me, at the same time everyone was getting ps2s. But I played thps2 constantly. Then when 4 came out and it was available on ps1, I begged her to buy it for me and I loved it. But only years later discovered I played a very watered down version than everyone else. The ps2 and Xbox versions were so much more advanced and closer to THUG style of game.

much like you, 4 was one i played much later on. Although I'd probably rank it last in the first 5 tony hawk games, this video can make me appreciate it a little more, and I kinda wanna pick it up again.
THPS4 was my introduction to the series, and is probably my favorite if for nothing else but nostalgia. I got this for what I think was my 8th birthday, and just seeing a second of gameplay and hearing the soundtrack instantly takes me back to that time. Speaking of the soundtrack, it was probably one of my first introductions to punk rock etc as well. In addition to the level goals, my friends and I had a lot of fun putting on cheatcodes like moon gravity and seeing how high we could fly with Jango Fett's jetpack special.
2:58 Acid Drops didn't become a thing until Tony Hawk's Underground, but you're getting there. Not to mention Wall Plants are added, and they can be performed by inputting the Boneless command during a Wall Ride. Sadly, Wall Plants are absent from the PlayStation version. However, that version instead got Ollie boosts that can be done by pressing Nollie or Switch at impact of an Ollie, No Comply or Boneless, allowing for higher ollies than the usual.
A Polish PC version of THPS4 exists, and has bonus music tracks from Polish hip hop artists. Not to mention I was playing this version fairly recently, and one of the water-based bail messages displayed "Tone!" with an accent mark. I tried translating that message to English, but I still get a "Tone!" without using an accent mark, but with the accent, it means that I was about to drown. The title of the video gave me flashbacks of playing the Polish PC version and bailing in water just to see the "Tone!" message.
2:16 Secret Tapes are still present, but only in the PlayStation version. They're the only goals that can be completed without having to read a goal point's instructions. Secret Tapes can still be collected during an active goal. Secret Tapes count towards goal completion, but I wished they had better functions than just goal completion, like activating all of the Pro goals for the current level or revealing the names of all of the level's goals before any of the goal points can be read.
Wait, I think I’ve played Pro Skater 4.... but it had a bunch of Disney characters yet it had the same UI as this game. Huh... For real though, I’m actually just getting into the series proper, trying to hunt down all the games I can find. I can’t wait to get into Pro Skater 4, even if Activision refuses to give it (and THPS3) a remake.
Underground is my favorite and the peak of the series imo
Been playing since the first Pro Skater game. The remakes are my favorite outside of 4. Session is the skateboarding game to play though.

I believe you can't do a revert on the xbox version, PS2 you can.
