Excellent review! Always appreciate when acoustic instruments are used as opposed to samples … much more revealing of what a plugin can do.
Thank you😊
Thank you for this! Great demonstration of the
different "flavors" of compression. It's truly amazing
how a vocal can become more compelling, a bit more
urgent. Remarkable!
Thank you so much for posting this video... I would have never heard about Analog Obsession if wasn't for this video!
This might be the best free compressor vst I've ever heard. The sound of the FET on the first unit in tandem with the opto in the second that you got, sounds fantastic on drums!! Definitely gonna try this out. Thanks for the video!
What a great ressource analogobsession is! Thanks for this tip! ✌️😎
I totally agree with you, the combination of two compressors in line and the ability to use any of the VCA, FET and Opto individually, paired or all three is great and it's much faster to set up than two or more compressor plugins chained.
Brilliant explanation of complicated compression topics. They helped me a lot. Thank you very much. Jack
I'm sold! Well, it's free, which is amazing.
At first, I wasn't excited when I saw this plugin thinking that it's just 2 compressors in series, but then you showed that you can have multiple characteristics in the first one and the second which is an insanely good idea.
That was impressive! Thanks for the plugin tip and this wonderful demonstration.
Thank you
Great demo, must give it a try, thanks very much for your time.
From what I heard, it doesn't have a lot of character compared to the other VCA, FET, and Opto compressors I own, but I love the workflow and it sounds just fantastic! I'll be trying it out today for certain. Thanks to you, and thanks especially to the creator for continuing to put out great plug ins!
I love this one. I'm using it on my Master chain (heavy Rock). VCA into Opto with both about 1db of reduction. It's glueing!
Cheers for the info.
Please support the guy on Patreon if you are using his plugins!
Man...these guys at analog Obesession just solved my vocal plugin problem on labtop were I write on the go and use it for Vocals
Great video. Analogue Obsession make really very good plugins in general and this Compressor is no different! 😉
THX for this Video 👌 I will try it very soon
Please support AnalogObsession if you like using his content!
What an absolutely fantastic overview from a channel I haven't come across before! So lovely to hear a down to earth genuine expert giving a real world demo of what looks like a lovely clean plugin without the (unfortunately) usual youtube "OMG this compressor changed my LIFE!" vibe that seems to pervade so many music channels these days. Just perfect 😎
Thank you
Just a wonderful, relaxing no hype demonstration of a very fine compressor. Of course, ike so many writer/producers I have dozens of compressors...but I would PAY for this one as well. And I will...
Thank you😊
Also:
- Stage 2 can use an external sidechain (EXT to activate/desactivate)
- The plugin is resizable by moving its lower right corner
- Default size by double-clicking the lower right corner.
Interesting, I always tried to have the compressors far apart from each other in the chain, but I am going to try this one. Thank you
Great video. Great vst. Thanks
Thanks
I like it!
Nice stuff, I like the proficient and calm style.
Perhaps because I'm 50+ myself :)
Anyhow, subscribed.
Ridvan at Analog Obsession really does make some great plugins, and the fact that they are also free is just the icing on the cake.
In my past experience, the majority of free plugins I’ve tried never really impressed me, and with most, I think their quality reflects their price in terms of their actual worth.
But, Analog Obsession is the exception, as it is great stuff, and often sounds and works better than many commercial manufacturer’s classic hardware emulations, (some of which have price tags that make their worth really no better than the bulk of the free plugs).
While AO plugs are free, I encourage everyone to donate whatever they can to Ridvan, not only to show appreciation for his hard work, but to help him finance the development of future plugins as well.
FWIW
Cool. You could slam it on the first one then bring tramsiemts back on 2nd one
danks
Analog Obsession is amazing, but one thing to look out for is the gain reduction meter shows double the actual compression (on average). If you test it out with an oscillator you'll see, he's said its been fixed but it still happening with all my versions of his plugins. It's fine because it's better to decide based on your ear anyways, but accurate metering would be nice!
Thanks
Merry Christmas everyone!
Ho Ho Ho, and all that sort of Jazz
cool design, although a knee control would have been my one feature add
had to bail a few minutes in though - that snare is piercing
I knew it! You're Swedish hehe. Great plugin! Jämn o fin
Japp. Jag är svensk 😊
Just downloaded… Love the definition literally can't stop using it… I'm trying on everything… superb
I’ve been using analog obsession, wondering if he had a compressor and Bam here we are. Thanks
And if you compare p11 abyss, AO Comper, VoS ThrillseekerLA and T-Compressor Techivation, which one to choose from? Which one is nicer, which one sounds better? :)
Nice, didn't even know it had oversampling.
Anyway, I would suggest you let us listen to the processed signal vs unprocessed with the rest of the instruments on, otherwise it's too hard to hear the difference especially on vocals
Thanks. I know and I usually do that in my videos. Sometimes I have to cut down so that the video doesn't get too long. Thanks anyway for pointing that out.
A few things you left out. Its Win 10/11 only. And the MAC version only works if your graphics card supports Metal. If not it crashes your DAW.
Thanks, I didn’t know that.
I have never had any problem with AO plugins and just wanted to recommend them.
they caim so close without doing live analog sampling in the Plugin...now thats some exper programing
Also on vocals another secret weapon is the
Klanghelm MCU and the DDMF Magic Death Eye (Single Mono) those three will pretty much get you a great dry vocal to work with
Amazing plugs for free. That said, I like VST fx, but VST synths not so much. Maybe it's my slow processor.
Check out TDR molotok!
it's really worth iot sir.
Hej Roger, tack för videon. My problem with anolog obsession is that the plugin seems to forget the state I left it in when saving the project. Maybe a Reaper problem but very annoying when I love the plugins!
Strange. It never happened to me with Logic or Studio One.
Not a problem for me on reaper
You remind me of The Cook from the movie The Transporter.. :)
Really ? Hahaha😊
Can I ask where I can get the plugins? I'm happy to support if I can try them and I like them.
Sure. Follow the link in the description. On AO patreon look for the download link at the end of the plugin description.
All plugins are free and many of them are excellent.
@@Rogerthatmusic Thanks for the quick response. If I decide to use these plug-ins where would I get access to them as well? Also, what exactly is the RogerThat Drums v1 on the website store?
@@mmagoon67 The plugins: just download and install.
The Roger That Drums is sample files of my drumkit. Sampled close and all mics on. Good to use as a toolkit when you need to add an extra crash when mixing for example.
@@Rogerthatmusic nice. Thank you again.
Have you tried the Purafied VU Comp?
Nope
@@Rogerthatmusic definitely check it out if you’re into Swiss Army knife compressors.
And dont forget the oversampling by clicking the "analog obsession" label ;)
I didn’t 😊
@@Rogerthatmusic ups, missed it. I'm sorry :)
Great video. Instant sub from me.
Thank you
Whey do so many algorithmic compressors ruin the stereo images of the signal. You can literally hear the signal being mono'd as the threshold comes down
This is an artifact that all stereo compressors suffers from (more or less). Use the compressor in dual mono to preserve the stereo image.
@@Rogerthatmusicgood point. Acustica plugins seems to retain a lot more of the stereo image though
Well, some do it it more, some less. Most stereo compressors scan the whole signal for peaks so if you ha a transient on the left side it will compress the right side as well which leads to the appearance of a more narrow stereo image.
With dual mono each side compresses individually.
You will always lose a bit of wideness by compressing but much less with dual mono.
A bit more time to hear the effect would be helpful.
I subscribed you to, change your free awesome vst plug ins
Imagine he turn it to a channelstrip adding flexible EQ and couple of preamps
Analog Obsession has a boatload of free (!!) really good functional plugins. Also channelstrips and eqs. I use AnOb plugins in.literally all my mixes for years. Real diamonds for free 👍😊
COMPER VST3 crashes my System with Cakewalk

Cheers. Got it
@@makeaguitarnoise Not meant as a message to you directly but rather to all the readers of the comments section.
If you check out his plugins and you enjoy them, please do consider sending him a bit of money as a thank you. We all see these plugins marked down from $400 down to $29 and we jump at the chance to pay for them. If this creator can get a simple $5 from just a few of their users, it would do the developer a world of good! Think about the person who did all of this work for free. Please consider giving them a little bit of that money you'd have spent elsewhere.
@@jasonzdora
No I agree totally. Support your independent developers. It's good to have the option to try then contribute.I like the Reaper way of doing business.
The plugins are free if you pay at least $60 dollars a year subscription. He failed to mention that.
No, you don’t have to pay. You can just download and install.
Read the plugin description
A bit of a pity you don't encourage people downloading this to actually donate a bit of cash to the developer.
Please read what I wrote in the description
So it's not free then. You have to pay monthly?
No you don’t, you can download all his plugins for free if you just read more carefully.
It’s decent to support him a few months though, imo
@@Rogerthatmusic Totally agree and I will it just seems kinda manipulating right off the bat :) All I see is payment plans?
@@leonardgoulet5864 Look for the download link at the end of each plugin description
It's not free....they try to make you donate $10 minimum before they let you download it..
No you don't have to. Read the plugin description.
@@Rogerthatmusic
You're probably right...I tried to download one of their "free plugins' BEFORE and for some reason they tried to make me donate money before I could download it
@@dannydaniel8975 He changed it a few months ago. They are all free now. It’s decent to support him a couple of months or so though IMO.
@@Rogerthatmusic
I will...I didn't have a job then, but I do now..
It’s not “free,” you have to join his Patreon and donate.
No, you don't. Just download and install
Explain to me how this is free. It cost a minimum of $5 a month on patreon. I’m not a fan of subscriptions. I would rather pay $300 for a plug-in than rent one.
Scroll down and download free of charge.
Oh 😂 duh. Thx for the heads up. . If I like and use them I’ll gladly pay for them.
I dont do subscriptions
You don’t have to. Just download and install
@@Rogerthatmusic link???
@@robertmason7553 in the plugin description on AO patreon
Its not FREE! Must give money every mounth.. Im not against that but its not free, its a king of subscription.
No, you don't have to give any money. Just download and install. It's a good thing to support the developer though (for a few months) IMO.
@@Rogerthatmusic There is no link to download, a part of 3 ways to pay for Patreon Subscriber and all 3 are pay options.
@@lucasjuniorproducer It is. Just scroll down to the end of the plug-in description.
@@Rogerthatmusic was really well hided.. 😂
I feel like this video is "misleading". Its looks like this plugin is NOT free. You have to pay for a patreon membership. This seems like a mis-advertisement. I wanted to subscribe to your channel but I feel like this was a bit untrue in the title.
You don't have to pay. You can just download the plugins without becoming a patreon. ( I recommend that you do though for a couple of months to support AO)
Learn to read and to click on free download links before you assume anything!
@@JH-bf6qy Regardless... You have to step through multiple hoops to get to the part that most people wouldnt understand. It starts off with a patreon page asking people to spend money but once you go through that page and scroll way down to the bottom, then it is revealed you can get it for free if you understand the download process. Its not made easy for common people. Just more people on youtube asking for hand outs. Just straight tacky IMO.
So you think it’s tacky to recommend an excellent free plugin?
sooooo actually not free.
Yes it is. Read the plugin description.
WTAF??? Dude is hawking free plugs, but they are only free with a paid subscription??? Uh, I'll pass. And two compressor in line? That's easy. With any compressors you may have.
No they're not. You can download for free if you read the plugin description.
@@Rogerthatmusic wasn't clear to me...
Not free
Yes it is. Read the plugin description
Ha Ha Ha --- This is Only FREE if you Pay to Support their Patron Page. Talk about a Bait and Switch. It may be a Great Compressor but it's NOT Free.

I recommend though to support the guy a couple of months or so for making great plugins.
