What kinda fly reel should I use in the salt I just got my first fly rod for like stock trout in San Diego but kinda wanna try getting some spotties on the fly and I’m pretty sure is shouldn’t use my freshwater set up in the salt lol
I usually use a 7 or 8wt rod, but this day I had a 6wt TFO BVK Legacy. Always a fast sinking line with a Bay Bug, Jalopy, or Crazydad as the point fly and a bucktail streamer on top.
@@krazygoofadventures8031 yeah I use a light 7wt set up feels like a 6et or a beefy 5wt but if I hook up on a big halibut 25 to 30+ inch 8 to 15 pounds even a 7wt will struggle 😆 its fun on 6wt but I let go most the fish and don't want to tire out the fish to death .. been windy past month hopefully it dies down
Love your videos Joel. Glad to see you are back in San Diego. Wish I was there with ya
Thanks Shipmate! Hope retirement is treating you well!
nice video! I learned how to fly fish for them in that area as well. Lots of fun out there
Thank you for showing respect for our Nation and the brave men and women who serve.
Of course. I'm active duty.
Good work out there. New subscriber here. Keep up the great work and tight lines
Looks like a fun time. Ive been catching spotties on conventional gear for a long time. Gotta get the fly rod in on it
Great video. I desperately need to get my float tube back on the bay
The bay misses you sir!
