Really love the balance between easy and hard mechanics in this game. Yes, the game has the easy combo based system. But this will be easily voided out by the advanced players with the active switching. assist combos, DHC's, etc... That Auto run looks like its going to be messing with me the most and looks wonky. Games looking very fun and promising so far. The mechanics and combo's with all the different characters almost seems endless. Cant wait to play this! Hype!
SpartasSKiLlZ People are over selling this game's depth, assist combos and DHCs are nothing new. And active switch isn't really that hard either. It's been in other games including MVCI and SFxT. The hardest combos will come from cross combo and I'd be more impressed but Blazblue already gave us Carl. It's not that different from having a puppet character. Now if you put him in this game then that's a different story. And even then I don't think cross combo in this game even compares to the crazy shit you can do with another player during cross assault in SFxT. I'm kinda disappointed that they didn't just port over the Blazblue characters without watering them down and give us these tag mechanics. This is technically a two button anime fighter with tag mechanics unless you really want to argue that the C button is on par with the other two normal buttons. Don't really get why they couldn't just make the C button the drive button and give us command normals.
Just remember, it will be more challenging for less skilled players and to those who are not familiar with tag games (like me, I've literally never played a tag game and I always used one character in TTT2 XD).
BlueLightningSky Dude, just fuck off. You're underselling it without playing the game for a long time. How about doing that before you have the right to be a jackass about the depth, okay?
SpartasSKiLlZ True, haters are only looking on the surface with the easy combos. It just gives more room to focus on those other mechanics you mentioned. That's what will separate the experienced players from the botton mashers imo.
SpartasSKiLlZ imma be new to this game so does this game play somewhat exactly to dragon ball fighterz execution wise with combos, launchers etc or is it going to be playing different?
I thought this game was brainless with 1 button combos but the tag mechanics plus the different character combinations actually make the game have seemingly infinite complexity
I absolutely loooove! How you did this video, it actually feels like a conversational teaching and I like it better that way. Thanks bro, I learned a lot from this
This video is a must watch before playing. Very well made. I was scared when you said you wouldn't edit, but it is just so well done it doesn't need any. Thank you
I just picked this game up today since it was on sale in the Eshop, I thought the beta was fun so I'm looking forward to getting into it more. It's easier than traditional fighters, but it's still really complex and more traditional than Smash. It's a nice change up for me, so it should be fun.
Same bro. This EVO sale is the best jumping in price. Was even able to grab the DLC as well. If you want to run some matches, here my friend code. 2602-0458-9412
This might actually help me out. I have played the game back in October and I never got the chance to play the demo. If I ever make a video on my impressions on the game, I'll credit you KoEfficient.
Cross Burst seems annoying since you can probably do it several times a match, but then it was followed up by the active tag thing which looks super cool
I'm not an expert on fighting games so I don't really know how balanced it is or isn't but to me it kinda feels like a blue shell in earlier Mario Karts. When I watch Blazblue videos usually I see people only use the burst mechanic twice in three rounds, it also looks like it's harder to counter even if you know when it's coming
TheMismatcher is right. In addition, its not like you can perform one and immediately pull out a full damage combo as it disables your assists and tag-ins for a pretty long time
17:24 that's not Crash Assault Koe, that's Distortion Skill Duo, you already explained Crash Assualt (which is the C button minigame). Either way, still good beginners guide though.
If you mean buying the game either retail/digital, you'll still get all of team RWBY (Ruby and Weiss are available from the start, Blake and Yang are forever free DLC, but Blake is out on day 1, while Yang at a later date.), and yes, 2P Local VS will be in.
Fuuuck, Yang and the cross combo mechanic sold me. This shit sounds like it might be more fun than FighterZ in the long run, and that's a fucking statement cuz FighterZ is dope.
I really hope someone releases a video soon showing all of the available colour swaps for each character, particularly the RWBY girls since there's no older games to refer to (and I just found out the UK won't get this before mid to late June), so glad Ruby has at least 13 colours to choose from and that everyone else will likely have around 20 or so as is the usual standard with Arc Fighting Games.
One day at ArcSys: "Let's make a fighting game with simplified mechanics and stuff for the western casuals." One year later at ArcSys: "Well, that didn't work out, but the results are awesome."
You did not say about the ultra move in Resonance Blaze. It is hard to do, you need a lot of bars, but if you do it (and hit ;)) it can be a game changer.
I think for this game to succeed and compete with DBFZ and other fighters the balancing and damage scaling is going to have to be on par with the floor Rick made for Morty, so that he could experience what true balance is.
just picked this game us used, been wanting it for a while but put it off for some time ~ now that I have it I hope to enjoy Neo's moves and attacks Dx
@ Koefficient Is this a good game to get into if you're not great with execution? My biggest problem is how active you have to be in most anime games. My habits are geared way more to the sf4 style of gameplay where you can do a move and wait, and then link, instead of kind of inputting 4 or 5 moves at a time to preemptively complete a string.
Great tutorial! This game looks like it has the potential to be an ongoing Anime series like Bleach and Dragonball Z. Anyway, thanks again for the indepth analysis =)
Never played a Blazblue game before, here entirely for RWBY(well, I haven't played Persona yet but I read some of the p5 manga) but it looks pretty good
13:28 Thats literally Platinum's running command grab-whatever Its not weird at all As for suggestion for this tutorial format, I would recommend showing a short clip of the side topic youre saying like Azrael has normal walking and dash
The only switch beta confirmed is Japanese one Europe gets nothing for switch and no one knows about NA As for what CCT93 says the thing on the 18th is the PS4 European demo
i have no idea why people are calling this game brain dead, from the looks of the mechanics it seems that arcsys basically made a game full of customizable puppet characters.
So with those blank spots we see in the character selection, I can assume will be where DLC characters will come into the fray later on, does that mean that there will be more characters from each series to fill up every one of those blank spots, like characters whom we haven't seen from videos or news articals?
SonicNinja101 Warrior of Light Blake and Yang are supposedly available day 1. DLC will be gradually released in packs (5$ each) containing 3 characters (perhaps more?). The first DLC pack contains Platinum, Orie, and Kanji and it’s actually free!! :D. Anyway, we’ll just have to see. If you would rather wait and save some money, the 20$ pack including all DLC characters comes later. There’s always that weird deluxe edition but it’s a waste of money imo if all you’re wanting is that sweet DLC.
What is the point of the C button? It seems like anything that the C button does can be covered by a command normal. 4B or 6B for overhead and 1B or 3B for sweep. It feels very gimmicky with its minigame.
Quick question:is it fine to play a character without really knowing who they are and not playing their origin game? because i have never played BlazBlue. P4 or Under Night In-Birth but Hyde looks really cool so i intend to play as him.
Yeah man, do what you wanna do. Nothing says you have to, right? You don't have to click an "I've played his origin game" button on the CSS to be able to use Hyde. Tons of players pick characters that they don't have familiarity with in games like MvC3, BBTAG, SSB, etc and nobody cares if they're familiar with the origin series or not. If you like him, play him. You don't have to "earn" it by playing his origin game--you "earned" the right to play him by buying BBTAG.
Awesome video, but I have a simple request. Would you be able to do a video on what various terms like "quarter circle forward" and "5B" mean for those of us who are noobs to 2D fighters?
It's kind of it's own thing. The consist of A, B, C, D and P. A and B are you 'weak' and 'strong' attacks, and C is you 'crash' attack (at least i think that's what it's called), D is your tag button, and P is your assist or 'partner' button. So, whilst the naming is similar to other Arcsystem games, the way they function is completely different.
It's not lol. See all that weird shit with the Assist burst (or whatever its called lol) where you can hold the buttons and combo with both characters at the same time? My mind can't comprehend how hard that must be to master.
Okay, the universal overhead is sort of nice... But 9:45 that is freaking quick! Nearly instant! Too quick in my opinion! That's for the BB and Persona cast?! 13:15 That grab is even worse than the DragonBall grab. At least in Fighterz you could see that it was a grab coming for you. Here, there is no indication at all if they're dashing towards you for an attack or it's the grab. 27:33 I know that it's a level 4, but even at level 1 that is a good amount of chip damage. If you can die from chip damage in this game, that amount is still crazy. I know what I'm saying is extremely negative. But this is just my own opinion about the game. I'm still looking forward to it and everything! I'm even thinking about buying it on the day it comes out. But there are so many things being done from Day One DLC and these mechanics are starting to become way too over the top for me to not stay quiet about.
Hey just to shed some light about the grabbing. The grab is like standard blazblue so if you look closely you’ll see a green exclamation mark over their head and that’s when you can grab back to break a grab. Grabbing in blazblue has always been quick and more of a prediction game. If you’re unfamiliar with blazblue than I can see how grabs can be seen as to fast.
my only problem with this game is that it just so bad at showing you its mechanics. I'm no fighting game virgin, but a game with so many different mechanics need to explain this stuff better in game
@Koefficient I had a chance to play around with the mechanics and I find it unlikely that they will include our girl yuzu. She is a very technical Character and I don't see how they would add her stance options along with sliding. I honestly think she is to complex for this game.
Unless the sprite theory proves true later on, you never know if Yuzu makes it. However, if you want to be more specific, Hakumen is even in, and how they're handling his moves are good enough, but if you want crazy, then Vatista is very very technical with charge moves of every direction in her native series of UNIST. However, she'll probably be simplified.
Halfway through the vid i gotta say, Well the mechanics so far kinda seem simplified to a ridiculous degree, I mean they only got like 2 regular attack buttons while the rest is just assists team moves that cant combo too much. Also no drives ;-;
Assists seem to be just as important as regular attacks. Also, that mechanic where you hold both tag buttons during an assist and combo with both characters at the same time looks more complicated than anything from classic BlazBlue.
Actually it's not so much different from P4AU and DBFZ. P4AU has only 2 buttons for Normals, the rest 2 are for Persona control. DBFZ has 3 buttons for attack and 1 for projectile, but Hard attack is Smash attack, so, actually, it's similar to Crash attack button of BB Tag.
CloamBoyn and this is why it is really stupid. Once you are down to one character you are playing a dumbed down version of Blazblue. I don't even get why they went with this set up when they could have gone with the Tag 2 style of depleting health.
Yeah, it sucks but Mori said extensively that BBTAG was made to attract new players, not just fighting game veterans. The controls are extremely simple (excluding all the complex optimizations people will discover later on and the actual tag system) for a reason. He said he wants to open the franchise and the fighting game community to a larger crowd. I myself am pretty disappointed in the simplicity too, but I’m just gonna fight through my salty tears and enjoy the game for what it’s worth.
I have the switch button icons, why do ps4 players get their actual buttons while switch players get generic. A, B, C, and D icons!? I know it's nitpicky but it really messes with my brain!
Thank you so much for making this! First arc sys game (new to the FGC) and this is exactly the kind of content that newcomers such as myself need
It's so simple yet sounds like it has a ton of depth and things to master. I can't wait to play this later.
Just realized if Marvel vs Capcom was given the ability to have 3 different assists in one match, it would be even more broken
Ratsuterra48 doom with three assists... sweet Jesus
Isn't that 3v3?
Ratsuterra48 im all up for a 3v3 bbtag tbh

Just got the game and have been watching your stuff for a bit. First ever fighting game but it’s been fun so far!
Still waiting for my reveal...👺
Squidward Tentacles Im between Celica or Nine for BB, Teddy for persona and Seth for the next reveal.
You and me both
Terumi, it looks like we’ll have to team up to get in...
Squidward is clearly the most worthy candidate, they are just holding off his reveal to build the hype
Based Haar *DAMN STRAIGHT!!!!*

It’s been like almost like 3 years since I played and am totally bad at it now. Thanks for the tips
Hearing that they made the inputs easier and not crazy like standard BB, makes me even more excited to play this game.

I feel like it helps balance out the huge damage output
I'm not an expert on fighting games so I don't really know how balanced it is or isn't but to me it kinda feels like a blue shell in earlier Mario Karts. It's more like a triple banana shield, since you die so quickly in this game it's a much needed defensive option.
TheMismatcher is right.
In addition, its not like you can perform one and immediately pull out a full damage combo as it disables your assists and tag-ins for a pretty long time
Take a shot every time he says Resonance Blaze
that weiss alt looks cool. I also like the Sol outfit that ruby has.
Really wish training mode was available, it's hard to play online without understanding how my team works
it is
Yess I've been waiting for this your the best man keep the work up
I really like this game, is easy to use. Im not a hardcore gamer of fighting games, but i like to play it with my little brother
So each character have a certain level of uniqueness, cool. The game doesn't look that simple as I thought. A question: does grab goes through block?
Yes
MrTigracho that's typically what a grab does...
Wowww lmfaoo
Dude, chill. No need to laugh at someone who's new. That kind of attitude is what puts people off of the FGC.

What are you talking about? DBFZ sold really well
Yuda from HnK has Daggard and Comac and they have assist bars similar to this, Yuda can only use assists while the bars are full.
the grab whiff animation for ruby looks like platinums whiff animation for her command grab in BB
Mori Jin The God “true level”

I love that push block costs meter. It's one of the worst necessary mechanics in fighting games so making it cost meter was a great idea.

autisonm I think the Switch public beta is on the 18th. You only get to use 4 characters though being Ragna, Yu, Hyde and Ruby
The only switch beta confirmed is Japanese one
Europe gets nothing for switch

awesome job dude
Any info regarding the Switch version of the beta? I know it’s getting one, I just don’t know when.
Really hoping that’s not the case because that would SUCK.
The NA Switch Beta will be out on the 11th, as well as the preorder from what I read. We don't get it as early as PSN unfortunately.
Eh, it’s only a two day difference, so it’s no big deal. Can’t wait!
its in the JPN Eshop.
MudkipMonkey it is? It wasn’t there two days ago. If its there, they yea, go have fun.
With that cross combo system i hope someone do a WOMBO COMBO!!
Those have been happening quite much lately, lol.
So apparently there's nothing like Rapid Cancels I'm guessing
Afraid not, you have to use the tag mechanics and Resonance Blaze attributes to the fullest.
i have no idea why people are calling this game brain dead, from the looks of the mechanics it seems that arcsys basically made a game full of customizable puppet characters.
But doesn't the Dragon Rush in DBFZ do the exact same thing when grabbing? You move forward a little, though I guess you have to be way closer.
no pre-order for steam though. would be nice to have even if we couldn't get the demo
So are the cpus set on the beginner setting? I ask this so I know if I can use it to practice some combos and my specials
Same here.
From what I see on the streams lately, you can change CPU difficulty over the Beta/Demo in the Options.
Can you make video guide about how to create your own combo and not depend on smart combo ?
I like the game just wish they had more attack buttons
good stuff

Grabs reminds me Dragon Rush from DBFZ.
Not sure if you're joking or not, but Dragon Rush is basically grab and Dust (Guilty Gear thing) combined
I'm not joking. When you're perfoming Dragon Rush, character is moving forward, than grab... I meant that part.
again, Dragon Rush is functionally a grab. goes through shield, and can be teched out if your opponent also do the same thing
Well, Dragon Rush can be teched out of just by attacking, so it's a bit harder to land than a grab.
Apperate the info, getting this for sure

A very well made guide to BBTAG; but it would be nice to have it scripted and edited.
Im so serious, i want a freakimg weiss and Ruby guide. Im trying to get use to weiss
WHERES MY SECOND PERSONA BUTTON?
Can you built any character team you want it doesn’t matter?
Why the hell is Ragna breathing so damn hard?
my only problem with this game is that it just so bad at showing you its mechanics.
NeoStrayCat makes since I need to check out vitista because if it's to simple I may be upset. It will possibly steal opening options she use to have.
With active switching, does the red glow signify anything? I know if your p2 you have that blue glow instead.
darkblur101 I think it’s just a hey I’m this character now type thing
so as someone new to fighting games can someone tell me what buttons are equal to the abcd and 1234 inputs
Halfway through the vid i gotta say, Well the mechanics so far kinda seem simplified to a ridiculous degree, I mean they only got like 2 regular attack buttons while the rest is just assists team moves that cant combo too much. Also no drives ;-;
REDBEAST200997
I agree I’m cryin

Good video!
I have the switch button icons, why do ps4 players get their actual buttons while switch players get generic. A, B, C, and D icons!? I know it's nitpicky but it really messes with my brain!

How do you get characters?
