These guys were the cream of US session players in the seventies, playing on Steely Dan records as well as co-writing songs with Boz Scaggs, Michael Jackson and many others. Their first four albums are superb, accessible yet extremely tasteful rock. It was great to hear this on headphones with you both!
RE: Steely Dan, David Paich (keyboard, vocals) once said: "People say we sound like Steely Dan. That's because we are Steely Dan. We played on a bunch of their records." They were the best studio cats in LA back in the day.

Jon invited Toto members to guest on his album as additional musicians, and Toto invited Jon to sing in the song Stop Loving You, you guys should react to that song.
Wow, I have never looked it up but I´ve always heard Jon´s voice in that intersection, I just thought it was a voice that seemed to be similar to Jon´s.
Their "Live In Amsterdam" Concert dvd is outstanding. A lot of the members of TOTO were kind of like the musicians version of Michael McDonald. They played on EVERYTING in the 70's and 80's. Steely Dan to Boz Skaggs to Michael Jackson to so many more. Incredible talents!
did you guys know that Michael McDonald sings on one of TOTO's songs, great song named "I'll be over you" check it out if you haven't heard it, Love TOTO
One of the great things about being an 80s kid now is finding out that we had our own Wrecking Crew all along. The members of Toto played on so many huge hits.
Guitar player Steve Lukather. Session guitarist who has played in thousands of songs and albums along with keyboardist David Paich and drummer Jeff Porcaro. Steve played all guitars and bass on Beat It except the solo that was played by Eddie Van Halen.
With Toto you always get top notch musicianship. Toto IV is my favourite album of them. Besides their massive hits Rosanna and Africa it contains a bunch of excellent songs and is worth listening as a whole.
You guys need to dive deeper into Toto..they have many great tracks! Toto IV def IS a great listen. But the prior ones are fab, too! You'd love 'em! :-) Cheers, T
Jeff Porcaro was a prodigy RIP, he died much too young with so much more to give. As everyone else said all these guys are great studio musicians. Mike Porcaro on base is very overlooked and Steve Lukather on guitar he is a beast of a tasty player and a real gentleman. Thanks JK and Nick and Lex. More please.
Steve Lukather is a legend and a national treasure. He was a very active studio musician (all of Toto was) and if I remember correctly he is the most recorded guitarist playing so many other artists records. Super prolific. Chances are you've heard him on so many records from that era and don't know it.
I just made a comment regarding Lukather, and If you haven’t seen it, Tim Pierce has a video about the song and he regards his solo on this song “the best 4 bar solo ever”! If you haven’t seen it, please do as Tim is such a respected session guitarist in LA and has a great guitar lesson channel with tons of interviews on RUclips. (you probably knew that).
@@lantose I'm very familiar with Tim Pierce and am subscribed to his channel. I missed this one but will definitely check it out. Thanks for the heads up!

LUKE !!! I Love his stuff, been Toto fan since day one! Back in those days we took great joy in finding a Great album or tune and sharing with peeps that had never heard it!
Hey: read the book "The Gospel according to Luke" by Steve Lukather... He explains a lot of things about being a guitar player in many sessions for different artists (Donna Summer, Olivia Newton-John, Van Halen, Chicago, Lionel Richie, Cher and many more)... Maybe Lukather played guitar in more than 1500 albums...
This song is on my Faves list, heard it regularly through the years but never with headphones so thanks for sharing this, such a great song. The new piano part for you is what I've always heard on the radio, in Canada anyway. Check out their song "Hold The Line". It's a really great song.
Always worth it to hear the 'album' version regardless of who the artist is, especially from back then. Longer than 3 minutes or 4 minutes and they would do a 'Single Edit'. The outro is definitely worth it! Thanks JK!

This was a one take track they were supposed to finish after the last chorus but the drummer Jeff Porcaro was feeling the track and kept going so the band just jammed on. Check out some of the live footage where they continue jamming at the end great band.
Toto, still around, still producing music, but it was the late 70s to the late 80s that they were known for, several huge albums going platinum/multi-platinum. You talk about their musicianship, they were all studio musicians before forming the band, that's how they knew each other. And as a studio musician, like Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, you need to really know what you're doing, go in with a few takes and generate whatever you're asked to produce. BTW, that part you haven't heard at the end was usually cut off, as the song went a bit too long for standard FM airplay.
Sonic beauty, Chorus almost sounds religious. In UK with punk coming in, I had a spell of exploring Toto, Journey, Boston and a few others... Guys... Your old Genesis coverage keeps coming up on the screen. Must soon be time surely? Anything before Abacab, proper Genesis!

Funny that I was just listening to Africa by Toto when I saw this video pop up. There is a lot of talent in this band. Looking good Lex and you just hit 99K. 😀
This is a GREAT song, but I actually like a similar, but lesser known song they did with Joseph WIlliams (the son of the well-known composer, John Williams of Star Wars and others fame) called, Pamela. The music video actually shows their girlfriends in different scenarios, as if they were talking to/about each one of them. It has all the same elements that this one has, but, as I said, I prefer it to this one so, I hope you check that one out too. As far a other songs, there are a slew of them, such as, I'll Be Over You (music video's awesome one this one too), 99 (their first hit, I believe), Hold The Line, I Won't Hold You Back, I'll Supply The Love (an AWESOME some, especially the ending), Stop Loving You and Hold The Line (another of the most famous hits, and 1 of their first). Just so you know, Toto is a group of studio musicians ... that have played on almost many major Rock, POP, etc. hit songs. So naturally, this is WHY Steve Lukather (look'-a-thur) was playing on Beat It, but you'll find him on many others as well ... and that goes for all the memberr of the group.
BTW, just wanted to ALERT you to another note/thought you should know about this group ... their music videos are great to watch, because they DO include the LONG versions of their songs on/in them, and you can see all the individual musicians doing their specific parts ... more so than a lot of other groups.
