Using Smooth-Cast 57D Milo demonstrates two techniques for casting his bear skull mold. The skull mold is cast using a hand rotation method, adding color tint and nickel silver for a real metal cold casting. The jawbone mold is cast solid in the same urethane plastic. The end result is a wonderful taxidermy mount.

Good
👍
Thanks for the video, does the casted piece mimic any "metal feel" as in cool to the touch? Or is it just a visual metal appearence? Thanks again.
It feels more like metal than resin on it's own, but it is mainly a visual appearance of cast metal.
I love the entire video. Only thing is the final product does look like Clay.
Thanks for watching. In person you can see the metallic appearance of the piece. Is there anything you would like to see Milo mold next?
@@smoothon thanks so much for your response. I’m a new customer and I will be using many of your products. I’m specifically looking for a video for a foam to make doll heads (about the size two fists) and hands. I’m looking to make some horror dolls and I want a nice firm foam that’s durable to make the heads and will take some outdoor acrylic paint. I see there’s a urethane expanding foam video. That’s coming up in a few days. Anxiously awaiting it.
@@deedeetee17 We are glad you are here! We will throw that idea on our list and see if we can make it happen for you. One of your best resources for someone new is our technical help line. We can answer any questions that you might have. www.smooth-on.com/support/phone/
I like your tutorials , btw i see other people pre powder their molds with the powders. Then they use iron whool to bring up the metallic effect but they say that if you rub to hard you reveal the epoxy.
You didnt do that, is there any difference in the end results?
Thx in advance.
Yes, making a gel coat allows for a more durable surface, less likely to have the metal scratched off.
whats is the best resin to use for bone coloured skull castings
Smooth-Cast 320 is very popular for bone-type castings: www.smooth-on.com/products/smooth-cast-320/

Great idea! We will let the video team know.
How many times can you use the mold? And will you sell me a cast skull, lol.
This would depend on the material being cast.
