I would say South Korea has the brightest future, Taiwan for long-term living, Hong Kong to pursue your career and Singapore for education. Edit: These highly developed Asian nations are doing fantastic. We should not compare them with one another. No nations is perfect, they have their pros and cons. What’s more important is that these 4 Asian nations really worked hard to provide a good living standard, education, healthcare, infrastructure and decent-high income for their citizens.
Right now it's not so good. Korea's birth rate dropped lower than Japan's to the lowest in the world. Although it happened only recently and Korea doesn't have an aging population, if it continues, there could be an economic stagnation like what is happening in Japan.

South Korea definitely has the lead here. Just the fully-functional democracy alone gives them a huge edge over the rest. Political participation is high among its citizens and it's a sovereign, independent state whereas Taiwan and Hong Kong are still part of China (or recognized as such, whether they want or not). Singapore has the highest GDP per capita among the four but that doesn't translate to actual income for average citizens as the majority of wealth is owned by foreign investors. Also, South Korea has the strongest ties with the US and EU of the four compared here. Not only that, but Korea also has the largest defensive capabilities looking at their military spending alone and it must be taken into consideration that they have conscription over there and they barely pay their men serving the 2-year conscription so that means the vast majority of their military spending is actually going into techs, weapon systems, and R&D. Also, can't ignore their population. A big population can provide self-sustenance and South Korea has an edge there as well. If things go well with their neighbors in the north in the future, they can double their land and increase the population. The unification may slow Korea's growth at first but it will become a huge driving force for their economy and leadership in the global society.
Indeed. But overall, each of those four nations (If you can even count HK as one..) have done a pretty admirable job. We have to remember that most of these places were poor backwater nations not so long ago, now they have the economies to compete with even some of the best Western economies.

For the people wondering why South Korea is part of these four amazing nations (If you can even consider HK as one...) it is because not so long ago, all of these four countries were poor underdeveloped nations, and they all share in common the fact that they managed to escape poverty at around the same time while also becoming very competitive economies, that's why South Korea is in here.

S. Korea is overwhelmingly dependent on China. Taiwan is too, but not close to that extent. Whole separating eggs into different baskets. Also, and perhaps more importantly, Taiwan has a far less income wealth gap whereby women rank virtually identical to men. S. Korea women are still expected to sacrifice for men. That said, as is, without a doubt, S. Korea is in a different league than Taiwan.

No, and Korea ranks 10th in the OECD's 2019 global economic scale ranking. Australia is ranked 11th. It didn't even get into 40th of those countries. Comparing Korea with those cities is a humiliation for Korea.

Even if he is from Taiwan, most of anti-Korea people, comments, or news from Taiwan can be traced back to pro China sources. Also, Chinese trolls or internet armies do so in order to make Taiwan more isolated. It has been happening for years. It is gotten worse in the recent years.

Thanks for uploading such a nice clip on some of the developed countries in Asia. Though I don't understand why Korea is still regarded as one of the four tigers as it used to be in 1990's. HK and Singapore are city states with a population of less than 10 million I suppose, and Taiwan's GDP is less than a third of Korea. Korea's GDP is in somewhere between that of Italy and Spain, which well explains why Korea is one of the nations forming 'G20'. So I would say there certainly is a huge difference within the four tigers.

The term Asian tigers has been out of use since the 90s. All 4 are now well developed mature economies and part of the rich club. The tiger mantle has now been passed on to Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Singapore impressed me the most...clean, green, and efficient. S. Korea has the brightest future: Bigger, manufacturing hub, and not limited like HK or DPRC(Taiwan).

Many of the Korean companies are slowly taking up the markets, and even B2B relationships. For example, Tesla switched from Panasonic's car batteries to LG chem car batteries, since the technology was better and new.
And China, well China is a monster... cause of the sheer population which leads to more new innovations and their biggest manufacturing industry... I can say that some of that are more of quantity rather than quality. It would be almost impossible for SK to outscale China anytime soon but I think that living standards are better there, and China has very corrupt politics there... XiJing Ping is being a dictator there, which is really bad.

Edit: These highly developed Asian nations are doing fantastic. We should not compare them with one another. No nations is perfect, they have their pros and cons. What’s more important is that these 4 Asian nations really worked hard to provide a good living standard, education, healthcare, infrastructure and decent-high income for their citizens.
Right now it's not so good. Korea's birth rate dropped lower than Japan's to the lowest in the world. Although it happened only recently and Korea doesn't have an aging population, if it continues, there could be an economic stagnation like what is happening in Japan.

After that They plan a kill Taiwan project intended to destory Taiwan's semiconductor industry. THAT makes Taiwanese very angry till now. That is almost the story not to mention South Korean often play dirty game in sport.

Not only that, but Korea also has the largest defensive capabilities looking at their military spending alone and it must be taken into consideration that they have conscription over there and they barely pay their men serving the 2-year conscription so that means the vast majority of their military spending is actually going into techs, weapon systems, and R&D. Also, can't ignore their population. A big population can provide self-sustenance and South Korea has an edge there as well. If things go well with their neighbors in the north in the future, they can double their land and increase the population. The unification may slow Korea's growth at first but it will become a huge driving force for their economy and leadership in the global society.

That is the PPP index works for you to explain the question here .The concept of rich is not just the wage number also should include the factor "price of goods" combine together then consider how rich or poor you are .

Though I don't understand why Korea is still regarded as one of the four tigers as it used to be in 1990's. HK and Singapore are city states with a population of less than 10 million I suppose, and Taiwan's GDP is less than a third of Korea.
Korea's GDP is in somewhere between that of Italy and Spain, which well explains why Korea is one of the nations forming 'G20'.
So I would say there certainly is a huge difference within the four tigers.

I am a S.Korean and I've been other 3 countries on this video. Although I've been only city areas but what I saw there was all of them had low crime rate, safe to walk outside at night, and had very kind people.

I'm lucky I have been to all of these countries. I have a soft spot for Hong Kong because I was born in the UK. The sad part about Hong Kong its on the slide , not the place it was in 1997. I have been also to Singapore many times and it great . South Korea I have only been once and I was very surprised about its very high standards. I will return in the future . Taiwan I was shocked at its very high mountains , I found it just great . Asia in my eyes is very interesting, hard to beat .

The term Asian tigers has been out of use since the 90s. All 4 are now well developed mature economies and part of the rich club. The tiger mantle has now been passed on to Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
