@@stonesandfindings . .thank you with your reply . .but it’s not a makers mark, I believe it to be an older European practice and could possibly be related to being gold filled, better than plated . .I learned this years ago but later forgot the real definition, so I’m (at best) going by memory except it’s been years since then 🫥
I don't have a good answer for that. There are so many variables such as price they want, the market price for it, how much you like it....I would search online to see how much that sort of thing is going for. However, as for all antiques, you really should consider how much you like it.
I have a necklace marked 1/20 12k gf. When I scratch it there is white metal and it's slightly magnetic. Does it have to be brass underneath to be goldfilled? Thanks!
Yes it does. 1/20 means 1/20th or 5% Gold and GF means Gold Filled Gold Filled is marked 1/20 GF or 1 20 GF meaning 5% gold layer over brass usually but could be over silver or even steel. But 1/20 GF def means Gold Filled
It doesn't unless you have a "brass allergy" chemical reaction in your sweat pH. Here's a lot of product info on gold filled that you can download and print from my website: stonesandfindings.com/free-resources-page-pj-jewelry-making-information/gold-filled-product-knowledge-information/
We wholesale genuine gold filled beads. You don't need a business license, but the minimum order is $150, or there is a handling fee of $15. I don't know of anywhere else that is cheaper but still real gold filled.
You still can’t wear and care for gold filled or gold bonded like a solid gold piece. It eventually wears off too. It lasts longer than plated but not forever.
It is true that it will not last forever and shouldn’t brush or sand it for shiny or brushed finish. However, I have been wearing it for many years and it is the same as my solid gold pieces.
My Uncle has a gold filled chain that he made ( he's a jeweler in Sicily) and he's been wearing it 26 years and it still looks brand new. Gold filled has 100X the gold that plated does. They can absolutely last forever. Quality gold filled ( especially mens thicker chains) are semi hard to find.
Thank you for sharing this in such a clear, straightforward manor. It’s been very helpful!
I’m glad you found it helpful! Thank you for watching and for this encouraging note.
Thank You for this information, very helpful!

My antique ring has “FIX” stamped on the inner band, is this the same as gold filled? Thanks in advance for your response 🌿
It could be the maker's mark. Gold filled is 14/20GF

Is "Gold Wrapped" a "Gold filled" process. Are they both the same? Because i've found some jewelry that say that it is wrapped on thick 18k gold.
No, wrapped is a deceptive term meant to confuse. Really, that is plating.
I want to buy a vintage CYMA rolled gold 20 microns watch , is it worth it ?!

American standard is brass. I don't know how deeply you scratched it, but from all that is written, it doesn't read like it is gold filled.
