-Hello everyone and welcome to my channel! This channel is about my life as a farmer, and I hope you take the time to watch all my videos! I am a third generation dairy /crop farmer who loves what I do and want to share it with you! We farm in Michigan where we grow hay, corn, soybeans, and wheat, while milking almost 200 cows twice a day. So enjoy the videos and feel free to like, comment, and share my videos!

We use a stihl leaf blower to clean the roofs and the frames on our wagons…. Works great as long as you do it before the feed gets sticky
I've been bagging haylage and corn silage for about 15 years now. No issues at all. I do however bag at 1500lbs pressure.

I know you are in Michigan so a bit tough in the winter but no more silo's and a mixer wagon absolutely think your gonna love it Kip!!
Funny thing I watch 10th Gen and he is putting up new silo's when everyone else is getting rid of them good guy very knowledgeable but believe he is making a mistake!!

10th gen farmer is young, he is going robotic feeding also.Its his choice his family farm.

Kip, that conveyor chain slapping had me lookin around for a 2 cylinder tractor somewhere. A nice G would really be neat to see there in the lineup.
I worked for a farmer that had a 3970 jd chopper he switched the pulleys around on it so that the blower would spin faster to get the hay out of the chopper. Then switched it bad when we chopped corn. Good looking first crop hay. God bless

I always liked filling silo best way to do hay. We had beef cattle. great videos.
I grew up on a 65-89 size herd dairy farm, in New England, 'bout 33 years is all I seen. keep it up man, I wish I would help you! I used to yell at my bulls so that they would know to make it very clear to me as to whats up

Kip. I think you would love some Agri Speed Hitches. They even come in handy if some mistakenly unhooks on a grade. You can catch the wagon. Been there done that! Lol!
I watched another dairy farmer just put up 3 - 132 foot cement silos. They changing from bunkers to silos, I like silos, push buttons and you feed. I don’t think I would like cutting and cleaning up plastic. Thx for the video !!
You must like climbing. IF everything works perfect, someone has to climb almost weekly to change spout on the blower. When things break, you climb with a bucket of tools. Sometimes twice. I watch the same thing, but I know you can find another loader for bags/ bunks even if you have to beg, borrow, or rent one.
Quite a fleet of wagons. Your crew performs like a well-oiled machine.

You might want to connect with 10th generation dairy in Pennsylvania. They had pit silos and upright. They are retiring some uprights and are stopping using the pits. They have built 3 132ft silos with 2 more planned. Going to robotic feeders. Hope this helps. If you can please acknowledge this comment. Take care.

That's a nice haylage bag for your first one!
Take some spray paint before bagging and run a dotted line down the gravel that way you can line your bagger tractor up with it and youll know its stays straight.
I can see both sides here. I like Silos but I also understand limitations for all versions of feed storage to an extent. Not an expert by any stretch here. Just my observations to follow.
And for the record, when we moved farms in '92, we did away with ALL forage, and just did round bales, Grain. Bought a 530 Hesston (4x4 500 pounds) which matched up to barn design .
10th Gen: appears to be Limitation on farm land, not expanding past current size of herd, hires in major harvesting and manure spreading (for the pits under barns). Harvester has a blower they bring, that can reach a 150' max height, and has the capacity to unload wagons quick. They believe the 24x132 silos will hold all the feed they need stored, and are going to a Lely Vector automated feed system.
I have concerns on robot going between buildings outdoors. We'll see how it goes.
Kip, has similar size, I think? But, appears to be room to expand.
His stave silos are pretty old, staves decaying, and the unloaders, surface drive Van Dale Magnum types, are on the last leg.
For his size, a poured silo is only way to go for endurance, and size he would need.
I do not know how much he would need. But would venture it will be a few million in debt.
This economy. Allot of risk.
At this point, he has the equipment at harvest to match his temporary storage system. 1 less expense.
He put a nice pad down. He thought it out.
Both farmers did put thought into their choices. I don't think either farm made a bad choice.
Kip has the room to go his route.
And he is modernizing his feeding ration when he gets a TMR machine.
Keep going Kip!! Silos, No Silos, I will be cheering for you to suceed, just like I want 10th Gen so suceed.
It was all over for me, in October '96. Wasn't because of our feed either. F(BEEP) the Government

Another great video but I couldn't help thinking that if you laid a sheet under the filling point of the bagger the spill could be cleaned up as you go and it would keep the gravel/stone base cleaner for longer.
Those "pack drive" unloaders are a pain in the lower region! They always dig in and hang up when you have 100 other things to do. Especially on Holidays or before Weddings!

Kip I love your videos, but if you’re going to start bagging that much silage and Haylage, you’re gonna need to get a new bagger those baggers aren’t built heavy enough to take the amount you guys are going to use it for
A Versa bagger would be nice, no wires and hey are built damn tough
That was my first thought too. That bagger will be done before corn silage

@@timpingel9607 i have a rotopress, for corn silage it’s amazing but with grass if it is too dry it doesn’t do the job

Nice looking first crop. Glad you had nice weather. We are getting 6-10 inches of rain here in MN this week. Definitely gonna like the TMR and bags. You will love the piles if you go that route. Keep up the great work.

Hey Kip, were you planning on adding another chopper? Looks like you can buy faster than you can keep the wagons chopped coming in to the bag.
Awesome job it was like I was back on farm .to bad the video didn't have the smells of fresh chop haulage with all action not mention meals on wheels delivery by beauty
No more climbing silos. Have you looked at replacing or retro-fitting the feeding conveyor for the cows so you could off load from your silage wagons or is a mixer wagon the better route for the farm ?

At least you do not had a strong wind from behind you while your unloading.

Kip what would happen if you fluffed up the swaths before you chopped it, would it plug up the chopper taking in a big swath.
Why not use the self propelled chopper and use speed hitches

Im curious, why not put a bunk silo instead of the bags.
Cement is over $ 200 @ yard .
That should answer your question.
Also unloading wagons on the ground is a pain
@burtzorn4059 the bags weren't cheap when we used them 15 years ago, then it's not fun making sure the rats, raccoons and pet dog doesn't put additional holes in the bags. The $182 per yard of concrete will go a ways if you can't keep the dog from running across the top of the bags
What are you adjusting with the locking pliers on the back of the bagger tractor?
On the old john deere 30 through 55 or 60 series tractors, the visegrip or locking pliers is on the hydraulic flow adjustment.
I could be wrong but on the baggers I've been around, the feeding conveyor or chain runs off the tractor hydraulics. Then certain baggers also had a set of hydraulics to reel the tension cables back in.
Whill you still use the silo at the dry cow lot
So when all done with all hay & corn, how many bags you figure you'll have?
At least super trucker knows a good tractor he doesn't need anything to learn how to drive his tractor that little jd sounds like its going to blowup
Jst wondering why your farm spent all that money the last two years to redo the silos and now you are not going to use them anymore?
Some people get goofy when they hear things and don't always think things through! Their payed for use them, if theirs a problem fix it! When people say to old to climb a silo we'll look at all the young blood coming up Teach them right about a silo and keep us them, but their are a lot of younger ones unfortunately coming up that must just don't have the drive in them to use them!?
The roofs on their silos were all replaced under insurance after hale damage I believe, along with all buildings.
You fix things, and maybe you find a better way after the repairs. Or you just repaired to get by until you are ready to make changes. Upright silo's are almost always a problem. I know some people are building new ones, but they are on a different track.
His family's farm let them make the decision to do things they way they want to.
Why don’t you use your self propelled chopper for grass silage?

I believe they have one. They use it for corn silage.

Hi Kip I'm a little north of you in Michigan retired dairy farmer used a Ag Bagger a lot our John Deere tractors would not steer straight when running the Ag Bagger so put down spots of white Ag Lime to aim the tractors right front tire at trust me it works to keep the bags straight 😀
