    Good mention re crank pulley dampener. I had a fluid harmonic dampener that made a difference in noise especially higher up in the rev range. The smoothness is noticeable too.

    This is probably one of the worst condition Miatas I've seen on this channel, but that just makes it more relatable for a car that is reaching 40. Especially in comparison to all the other ones that basically look factory new.

    Very much enjoy the video, all good points to note down for checking in my own Miata. Would happily see more, for all the small items that have served their time and deserve replacement, along with what expected noises/noteworthy problems each item could cause. Look forward to the next video

    Obviously Ethan speaks from great experience in restoration of aging Miatas. Don’t mind the digirati, speaking from paper notes is a time-honored lecture technique.

    I'd like to add a couple things off the top of my head. Going with a more plush like carpet along with the DEI insulation inside the cabin and getting it as close to the firewall as possible helps not only with NVH, it also helps with climate control inside. Definitly a good thing in the more extreme tempered climates. The hood hinges also over time wear down and can cause the hood to rattle. If you can sort of lift and jiggle the part of the hood when closed by the wiper cowel. The hinges are more than likely worn. There are also two tunnels on either side of the fuel tank inside the trunk that sort of act like a sound tunnel and channels the sound into the cabin from the exaust and any other road noise from the back of the car. I found insulating the trunk helps with high amounts of heat and noise since it is a giant open area that could act as a drum. If you have an aftermarket exhaust or Catalytic converter, both may increase any exhaust noise inside the cabin. Tire choice is another option to look at aside from wheel options. For example, a set of Yonaka S-Drives has a high amount of road noise compared to a set of Hankook ventus v2 tires of the same 195/50/R15 size. Then there is the science behind the Honda S2000 exhaust with the loop in it to help with exaust noise and drone. And finally, I hear (havn't tested it out yet) that as our cars age. The metal becomes a little bit more flexible. Stitch welding along the door seams and other areas (I believe there is a diagram on the web somewhere) can also restore some of the rigitiy in the chassis.

    Off topic but some reviewers have complained about numb steering on ND Miatas. I'm an old guy, I remember that MGBs and Alfa 115 series cars didn't have power steering. A 2,300 pound car doesn't actually need power steering. At anything over a crawl steering lightens up. I know that the old cars had narrower tires and less grip but it might be something worth considering.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  Год назад +1

      The ND lack of feel was addressed by a change in the rack for the RF and 2018+ soft tops. Alignment makes a big difference as well. The ND suspension geometry is designed for power steering, if you try to drive one with the rack disabled it’s very heavy and not in a good way.

    3:30 the door molding (welt?) part appears to be NC10-68-911-00 for both sides (NB). Unfortunately, these are out of production and most places are either OOS, or charge ridiculous amount for shipping. Doubt they actually have anything in stock though (BTDT with other parts, you would eventually get a delayed OOS notice and a refund).

      We can only pass along what our manufacturers tell us, unfortunately. We do have quite a few working through our warehouse right now.
      It’s always a good idea to sign up for our “back in stock” emails because high demand products can sell out almost immediately these days. If you’re just looking at the site once in a while, you may not see them get into stock and sell out again. We’ve definitely been shipping Fox over the past two years.
