Thank you Cynthia! I started playing the Ukulele when I was 7, and now I am 12. It was a small group of children at our school. for people who are having trouble, i use my wrist to chuck instead of the heel of my hand. it sometimes fails, but from chucking from my wrist, i learned to use the heel
I finally learned how to chuck after reading this comment and using my wrist! I use my thumb to strum so the palm of my hand isn't easy to use. Thank you!!
After a year of playing and many youtube videos and disappointment this video finally taught me how to chuck!!! Thank you so so so much, I genuinely yelled out in pure joy when I finally got it

Cynthia, thank you so much for your lessons! I have been struggling with chucking for a long time and your simple tutorial has me chucking like a pro. I appreciate your tutorials so much! :)

This video is 6 years old now... but still helping people! Bought my tenor uke today, and this is one if the best videos to explain this somewhat difficult strumming technique. Thanks a LOT! 🎼🎶🤗
Cynthia, thank you. You've explained this with more precision than I have seen. I've seen it taught and explained in different ways, all of which made my chucking a bit ...off.... I really enjoy the way you teach, perfect pace, and you really want us to *get* it. Thanks!!
That probably means you're pressing down too hard. If you push the string all the way down it will still ring. You want to hit it just hard enough to make the slapping noise but not so hard that it actually plays the string
@@maggieallen8959 :O thanks so much! I thought mine was making the noise because i wasn't pushing enough, but it turns out it was the complete opposite! I only have to press kinda lightly and it works perfectly! :)))))
Thank you so much! I’ve always had trouble with palm muting and have watched several you tube tutorials to no avail, until I came across yours. Your method of teaching it was exactly what I needed to understand and get the rhythm of it.
Just started learning ukulele a few weeks back and your tutorials are just amazing. I watched this over and over for an hour and now i'm chucking like a champ! SUBBED!!! lol
Love your teaching style, can I just share a little Australian slang with you? A fairly common term for vomiting goes like this, " Mate had a massive night, I've been chucking up all morning!!" or another term for a vomit is an "up chuck". Luckily you described it as a down chuck. :)
Thank you so much! I've been scouting across RUclips for different uku teachers but nobody explains things better than you - you're detailed, you explain slowly and elaborately and don't assume that absolute beginners already know loads of stuff that is evident to you who is a pro player (which is what a lot of other tutorials on here do).
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck would chuck wood I still can't chuck, (d)uckkkk!!! I gotta practice more hihi. Thank you so much for this tutorial💕💕

I have seen similar done on an acoustic guitar before. I had very little trouble picking up this technique. This video makes it that much easier for me to pick it up. Thank you for an informative video. Chuck on.
Wow Cynthia, thank you! I am so grateful I found you on RUclips. You are literally the best teacher, for beginner and even advanced beginner. What I found helped and made it so much easier was strumming with my middle finger on the chuck because then it's not so awkward, rather than strumming with your thumb.

I normally use my thumb for down strokes.... It feels like my pointer finger is bleeding and I want to die. But I've got the chuck down now so thank you. Now I just have to build up my strength in that finger and it will make me an all over better player. And for those who are just starting, don't give up. I've been playing for almost 4 yrs now and I'm only now confident enough to think I can try to learn percussion beats. 3 yrs ago would never try any song with bar chords and now they are probably my favorite ones to mess around with.
