When I found out I was pregnant I prayed for the person that was delivering not just the characteristics that I wanted but prayed over their head and their well-being. I knew I wanted a midwife because I personally felt they would listen to me and wanted the most natural experience in a hospital setting. I prayed for the type of birth experience I wanted and prayed over everyone that I would encounter from the receptionist to janitor. I had the best birth experience I could (and did) imagine. When your words weld power you can have the experience you want. Now I will say…pray for the safe delivery yes…and do not forget to pray over the stay after labor 🫠
I had the WORSE experience dealing with a midwife. She told me not to go to the ER when I was miscarrying. I went anyway when the pain became unbearable and the ER staff told me I could have died. She was a white midwife and I later received notification that someone from that practice stole some records or something and they closed down or something. I read their email unbothered bc after that bad experience, I had found a MUCH BETTER DOCTOR by then. We all just have to follow our instincts.

Listen, as a pre-health student (pre-physician's Assistant) who is a senior in college, I have taken so many courses that have discussed the impact of care when you have a healthcare professional that is not of the same ethnic or racial background as you. I can go into so much detail with so many scientific research papers (I've written on this topic multiple times throughout my college experience) and let me just say, if you are a black woman ESPECIALLY, please please please, find someone who respects you. Now I also know many factors impact someone's ability to get to care such as transportation, finances, responsibilities, etc., but it can save your life and your child. I have never had a black doctor, but I have always had a woman of color at some point, and it is still not the same. Is it safer? YES, but having a care provider that can recognize symptoms and connect with you in a way that those of contrasting backgrounds cannot alter the course of your treatment. As a black woman, it is these very experiences that push me even MORE, to be a healthcare provider so that my black brothers and sisters are spoken for and taken care of without the fear of medical malpractice or disrespect.

This was the perfect ending to my day Thank you❤❤ Also I used to work at the hospital and I would highly suggest doing your research there are lots of doctors who can't stand their job or people and it's really sad. I did a stress test on a woman who was literally having a heart attack and I heard a doctor tell her she was fine She was a black woman. And when I questioned him about it he had the nerve to tell me she doesn't even have insurance and I'm not getting paid for this smh 😢...If I had the opportunity to have a black woman doctor I would definitely take it it is rare in the area that I reside.

Jess you are so right to want a black doctor, my whole delivery staff was black and the vibes, and atmosphere of my delivery/ delivery room was the most magical, special and safe place. Top tier!!! And you are right, those other doctors will and have looked over us, seen it too many times❤

Girl, I went to a recommended OBGYN that everybody swears by. When I checked in, I kept seeing women go in and out (some came in after me) and I am still sitting there waiting for my name to be call. I could hear the Nurses behind the glass just chatting away but never came out to update on when I will be called back. It was getting later so they started turning off the music and lights in the waiting room and that when they noticed me. They started making up all kinds of excuses, i.e., the doctor was called to the hospital, or he was running late. They started rescheduling my appointment for another date, but I kindly asked for the medical records form to transfer my records (they could not look me in the face, just kept looking at the computer. The doctor did call to apologized, but I still went with someone else. Sometimes it's the staff that can be off putting.
I feel this! I have a black female OBGYN and she’s amazing. But her husband is the office manager and he’s so terrible. Rude, condescending, tries to overcharge you, doesn’t apologize after he makes mistakes on your account. Her google rating has gone down due to bad reviews about him. It’s almost like he’s trying to sabotage her practice. I’ve been looking for a new doctor too.

My intuition always tells me he seems to be a little jealous of his wife and I hate that for her. I pray she ends up hiring someone else because we really need doctors like her.
Organize your closet seasonally! Put winter clothes in storage and keep spring and summer in the closet. In November, swap for the Fall and Winter stuff!

Hi Jess! A suggestion for your wedding cards, get a scrapbook and put them in there. You can cut them up and keep the names to the cards together or keep them whole. I did that and I love going back and looking at them. I also put what came with the card, gift, money, etc. You'll love it and it gives them a special place, instead of being in a bag on the floor in your closet! 😉😀

26:31 As a healthcare professional, I had something happen with my form of BC and it was the Black doctor who took a few steps and asked a few other questions and I literally was so grateful. Also, the whole situation you’re stating you can certainly let the practice manager know your experience, even as a bystander observing what happened with that other patient.
Don’t be afraid to just ask for the ‘black doctor’! I do it often 🤷🏿♀️
Make sure you start praying for your baby, your pregnancy experience, your body and everyone that’ll be taking care of you. That’s the best insurance.

Unfortunately, I experienced this with a black female OBGYN. I was just like you and purposely chose someone who looked like me. I started having some concerns, and she didn't take them seriously . I took her word for it that everything was ok. Didn't see any changes and dealt with her not listening to me for over 2 years. I knew something was wrong, and she didn't take me seriously. I stuck it out because I didn't want to keep explaining how I was feeling to a new dr. She finally did exploratory surgery to prove me wrong. Unfortunately for me, I was right. She became super interested in my case and wanted to help, but the time wasted had caused the issue to worsen. I took her referrals for specialists and never went to her again. I shouldn't have stuck it out because it cost me a lot.
It really would be great if you and purse girl became friends. Its great to see people still have good hearts.❤

.Cardio is the key girlie.. My tummy is resisting but walking everydays it's making changes and of course the food i eat and other exercises BUT the walking is what's giving the extra push, walking everyday.

I was married before &’ my married friends told me you have your good &’ rough years . I just dont like how some people make it seem like you cant overcome or get through those tough times I believe thats why people always so quick to talk about the downfall years because most times couples become content with whatever comes out of those times rather than coming out stronger than when it started. So I get why married people say it but its how you address it, they def make people not want to get married .
Another reason why divorce rates are so high. Your either going to work through it or just give up all together especially if you feel the marriage isnt going to get better.

Definitely is a a touchy subject, however, I had an Indian female doctor when I discovered I was pregnant. I changed to a black holistic OB basically because her and her staff couldn’t draw my blood after the first 8 weeks. However I still had my baby at home cause it made me feel the safest. When I told my doctor of my preferences she told me black women die in the hospital. A black woman told me so it solidified my decision. Found a doula team (Black) and a midwife (white) who stayed with me the entire 63 hours 😖 but I loved my experience. If I do it again will do it the same way if possible 🤷🏾♀️

I switched from a black female doctor, that I had for years to an Indian female doctor and it was night and day!! I love us, fr and wanted another black doctor but my new doctor is so much more thorough. I feel like no matter how great of a referral, the experience will be different, regardless.

I feel like that OB story lowkey triggered me! I chose a black OB in a practice and absolutely loved her! My husband and I got pregnant and scheduled our first appointment. We ended up seeing a different doctor because they want you to see all of the doctors in the office because you don't know who would be on call when you go into labor. At our first appointment, we found out that I had a missed miscarriage. We had the worst experience with the doctor at that appointment and the follow-up. Fast forward a few months, we get pregnant again. I found another black OB. She was nice, but also dismissive about my anxiety around being pregnant again after a loss. Then I had a negative experience with ine of the nurses and was like, nope. I went with a midwife practice and planned on having a home birth (ended up with a hospital birth due to complications). Everything went AMAZINGLY well and I had an all white medical team. I am currently pregnant again and chose to go with a new practice because of my last delivery experience. The practice is all women and the doctors so far have been white or Hispanic, but the level of care is EXCEPTIONAL! One of friends referred them to me after she had an ectopic pregnancy and I couldn't be happier with them. The good news is that you can typically fire a doctor's office and get a new provider up to about 27 weeks (I believe).

I might be bias but I don’t think anything you said was racist at all. Given that the mortality rate of black women that give birth is so high in comparison to white women and other minority races even, your concerns are 10000% valid.

I personally have been with the same OB since 2017 and I love her. She is so personable and explained everything in the beginning. She’s a black woman (cuz I had the same thoughts) I only switched while she was gone for maternity leave and I had a white lady for a while. Still kind, but ya know. I prefer my black doctors
