I just discovered this video while Googling what year this Kmart closed. I grew up in Pineville and I still live here at 42 years old. I spent many hours in this Kmart as a kid and have many good memories of shopping with my mom. I really miss it. An Asian food court opened in this building recently, although I will always see it as Kmart. 😁 Thanks for the video.
The garden center was actually added a few years after it originally opened. That's why it looks so weird. It was expanded in a way that never looked right
My hubby and I just discovered your channel today and we are really fascinated with your videos of abandoned places. We have lived in the Charlotte area for over 30 years so these places in and around Charlotte are old stomping grounds for us. I used to shop at the mall there quite often (Carolina Place Mall) when I was working at a nearby vets office back in the 90’s. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos!
It's crazy how certain structures deteriorate so quickly. It's only been 5 years and the building is probably already starting to leak bad if it smells that strongly of mold.
Not to start a theological debate but buildings are like people when they die. Without the soul, life force or whatever you want to call it the body quickly decays. Without people inhabiting a building they seem to do the same, even beyond the natural forces of deterioration.
11:38 Oh, the memories! This Kmart sold hockey gear when I was young. I bought a shit ton of hockey sticks from here. Sad. The Kmart in the town where I live was repurposed into some ridiculous indoor self-storage facility. Like we need any more, there's literally 50 million of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was just at this shopping center today - at the Captain D's across the way. There was construction activity at the entrance to this K-Mart, including a cement mixer parked right in front. I'm sorry I didn't get a closer look to see what was going on. Oh, and the Best Buy is still there, but closed for awhile earlier this year and is now a "Best Buy Outlet and Service Center", not a regular Best Buy store anymore.
Must have been the puddles and the mention of mold, but I was hit by a memory of going to K-mart in college to get Little Cesar's and trying to leap the ginormous puddles. Great video!
It was the last Kmart store i shop in NC. Very nice location. Sears is right across from the Kmart. It will soon become super gmart international food store
so I was watching one of your McDonald's videos this afternoon before work and you were giving a lot of fun facts well let me give you a fun fact about this Kmart two or three years ago it was purchased by Dick's sporting goods to turn into a Field and stream. Dick's sporting goods previously had a standalone building next door to this shopping center. however the Macy's across the street from the Kmart in the mall closed Dick's abandon their plan as well as around the same time abandoning the Field and stream banner and opened up a Dick's sporting goods on the bottom floor golf Galaxy on the top floor in the former Macy's spot at Carolina Place Mall across the street
In those photos at the end did I see carpet in the clothing section?? Or was it different color floor tile? If it was carpet that would be the first time I have ever seen that in a Kmart.
Yeah, the original Kmart was not too far away located @ 10635 Park Rd, which has been BLACKLION Consignment since the mid-90s. I believe they moved in right after Kmart scooted to the now-defunct location in your video here. Google the old location and you'll see that 70s/60s - era vertical concrete brutalsim along the storefront facade - It's a dead give-away. Oh, and that Best(Busted) Buy was originally a Service Merchandise which closed around 2000. Stay safe!
Where are the remaining Kmarts? There's a Sears in Frederick Md 25 miles away from me but all Kmarts are closed in MD, PA, VA and WV. Any in Delaware or New Jersey?
@@tricountyretail992 I guess I won't be going to Kmart anymore. I did make it to the last one in Maryland in March and bought some clothes but a lot of stuff was already gone.
Great video! Shame to see more and more of these Kmart stores getting left abandoned. All for what? Eddie Lampert has to go down as one of the worst CEOs of a company. Right there along with the Best Buy CEO.

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I always see these old Kmarts as Kmarts as well!
Beautiful cherry blossoms! You're both adorable!! Thank you for another great video! Take care, please stay safe. God bless you both!!

Awesome shirts on both you and Kayla! I had no idea you two are metal fans. Yet another reason you're my favorite urbex explorer/vlogger!
Thanks for sharing this Wallie It crazy how much it can change over the years wow great video on this one buddy.

@@DavidSmith-sb2ix Yep because body temperatures also affect the environment in these buildings.
Love these Kmart videos Wallie
The cherry blossom trees are absolutely beautiful! They give the outside a nice touch!

A great video, Wallie and Kayla! The front entrance of KMart has really cool architecture! Have a KMartlicious Day! Stay awesome!

When it was open, they had a little 50 cent carousel ride off to the left side of the entrance.
So did the Hermitage,Pennsylvania location!!!
So did the Butler PA one long ago!
@@GLeibniz1716 I live right next to it!!! it's now a Gabe's!!!
The sky looks a little stormy on this video even
Good video! Never seen a front on a Kmart like this one is! Sorry! to see Kmart and Sears go away!
If I remember correctly, the area that was once a cafe, they had turned into a seasonal\clearance item section.
Must have been the puddles and the mention of mold, but I was hit by a memory of going to K-mart in college to get Little Cesar's and trying to leap the ginormous puddles. Great video!
Great vid and great shirts, esp on Kayla; be safe!

Raymond "the rain man" is going to be upset that there's no more K-marts...😂😂

When it was open, it was actually a nice store.
Cool 😎 video man
You should check if you haven't yet, the former Golden Corral, that recently closed during Covid. 9430 South Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28273
Went here as a kid, so weird i forgot it was abandoned.
8:10 Yup anyone making over $15 an hour was let go at my Kmart in 2003 they also got rid of O1's people to get carts and take out trash and stock etc.
I’ve lived in pineville my whole life and never once have I seen this and also pineville is only 3 miles love So tthere is no way I could miss it
Dude I live about 8 minutes from there, that's crazy.
Man love the NC vids. Hopefully you can get to my area
My local BIG Kmart also closed in 2016
Great video!
Was it me or did the outro remind you of a song by Pink Floyd shine on You crazy diamond
Used to shop at this Kmart, before they closed it it was a mess. To many parents let their kids run around tearing things up knocking over displays
In those photos at the end did I see carpet in the clothing section?? Or was it different color floor tile? If it was carpet that would be the first time I have ever seen that in a Kmart.
Wow...I've been to that Kmart when it was open. Too bad they let the building go to waste, now no other retailers will want to open a store there.
Great video.
Yes, it was carpeted in the apparel area.
Kmart!! 😄😄
try the Bo's in Walle, NC.......
Prison yard? Nah, try Hell in the Cell with Eddie Crampert vs WallieB26!
Hahaha how about an old school ECW barbed wire match or scaffold match!
Reminds of a 90s Target look someone had 90s target on there mind saying Pizza Hut lol

7:27 I guess she forgot Circuit City’s downfall.
Definitely a late 90s or early 00s build.
Wow
It WAS a Little Caesar's, by the way.
The han family brought old Pineville kmart turned into groceries store in Pineville nc

That Kmart was a dump when it was open
Abandoned kmart Waynesville NC???? Near tourist areas west of ashville
How long before Bezos turns it into another one of his warehouses?
It never had a little Caesars pizza

I hate dirtbag CEOs. I'll tell people never to work at Best Buy now hearing about that. If only they had a Kmart to go to.
Pittsburgh penguins season is not over playoffs is next.
Target vibes? What if they converted this place into a target? 😂😂😂
Dammm Best Buy ceo is trash too
