Oooh I loved watching this break down! I don't typically outline until after the first draft or two has been written (so arguably it's not an outline) but it's something I think I want to attempt for my next novel. Maybe then I won't have so many timeline errors later bahaha.
And thank you for the WriteMapper shout-out. I hadn't heard of it before but Imma check it out asap. I love the idea of creating all the sub-bubbles.

Props to you, I wouldn't be able to even finish one draft without an outline haha

I always forget my character's eye color. One day their eyes are green the next as black as my soul.

Why the hell does it matter?

    • @SysterYster
      @SysterYster 5 лет назад

@@tedarcher9120 It doesn't matter what eye colour they have... but it's not normal to change eye colour... unless that's a thing for some type of creature or magic or whatever, and in that case it needs to be addressed. :D

This is the first time I'm actually gonna attempt to outline my novel and that is mainly because this ´tutorial´ was so breathable and easy to get into. Thank you Cam.

The first time I describe a person in the story, I copy that description and put it in a separate "character sheet" that I have. I'm also kind of making characters up as I go sometimes... (it happens! Ok!) and sometimes I wanna use them again later, and then it's very good to have a description of them somewhere. :)

I’ve never outlined but think I really should. I tend to fizzle out of writing longer stories a few chapters in so it might help.

I watch Jenna Moreci as well, she also gives a lot of good tips. But I feel like your outlining style suits me much better. I'll attempt it for the second book. And try to not derail too much. XD Thank you! :)

Have you seen the 27 chapter outline by Kat O'Keeffe?
    I found it very helpful.

Hey Cam, could you maybe do a video on chapters? Because I have no clue on how chapters should work. Is there supposed to be one major thing happening in one chapter, or more? Where does it end? How many chapters do you need? Help! 😬

I thought this was just going to be 10 minutes and 51 seconds of you bashing your head against the keyboard until the novel plans itself, tends to work for me :D

I go plot (conflict arc) > logic > character witness juicy details
    outline > walkthrough > weaselwordcrafting
I am cheap but with Excel pages, Word hotlinks, and my worldbuilding folder with character arcs, magic system, political, and geo-science notes I don't feel I need anything else.

Ok, my first books. I had an idea. I started to write. The first chapters were going according to plan... then STUFF happened... and at the very end of the book, I get back to the actual, original idea. XD I side tracked SO HARD for like... 300k pages. XD It's insane. :P But heck, I'm proud of it. :)

You mean that the Gateway Bridge hasn't collapsed? How on earth do I process this piece of information? :-D I am a little surprised that you didn't use the mall at Indooroopilly and the tendency for people there to key your Skyline when you are in one of theatre watching a film. (True story!) But hey, you do you.

I’ll be trying this. I’m rubbish at plotting, I’m currently trying to write a prehistoric/fantasy with prehistoric creatures and environment epic fantasy (haha that didn’t make sense) but I’m bad at plotting so I’ll be trying to outline like this. 😀 thanks.
