    Well done. I really like the new colors! I have a brand new 100% New Zealand wool rug in white. But I know it won’t last ( my partner has a chronic soda spill problem, and we have a dog ) so I intend on dyeing our new rug soon. This has been a great help...thank you!

    Thank you ! I just did my hallway rug grey turned out great! I watched another lady that said she didn’t wanna dye hers because it was way too expensive for the dye and you had to boil the water and all that stuff And she said it seemed like expensive and too much of a pain. Oh my gosh I did not have to boil water or anything. I did exactly what you did and it turned out perfect. In the end she ended up spending $80 I spent 5$ on one bottle of dye! Actually my mom bought the dye! Lol thanks!!

      Patricia Panagides thank you!! It is 100% Viscose (Rayon)! It will definitely work in both natural and man made fibers, the color saturation will just vary. Hope you try it out soon! 😊

      Just a side comment, If dying poly rugs with rit you will want to use their rit for synthetics. Using regular rit on a man made fiber will eventually bleed or wash out. I work with rugs for a living just to qualify my comment.

    I bet your forearms were very sore from pumping that spray bottle! LOL. I have a shag I love that is peacock blue but has some silvery threads in it and I cant find a peacock blue shag any where that matches my freshly painted walls or think and plush like the one I have! What do you think the chances are of finding a peacock blue and if it would even work on shag! What about mixing colors? Do you think that would work! I have ordered 3 more rugs and none are as plush as the one I first bought! Yours looks great btw and where did you get the spray bottles?

      Haha yes my forearms did hurt!! I would think that mixing colors would work just fine! I’ve never tried this on a shag rug but imagine it would work as well. • @MessinwithMeggie
      @MessinwithMeggie  4 года назад +3

      Tiffany Damle hi! It did until I rinsed it and vacuumed it several times! I did a test after it dried each time by rubbing my hand on it to see if the dye would transfer. The last time I rubbed a paper towel over it with no transfer and called it a day! Be sure to put a rug pad underneath to protect your floor in case of spills. The dye could still transfer if the rug gets wet! 😊

    No! Do not! Rit needs heat to set it, and will still be unstable, like it needs to be boiled in a pot for a good hour. Still will run. That’s on natural fibers which it’s made for.
    Take it out on grass (maybe shampoo it) and spray it with watered down acrylic paint. Be very careful of overspray and wind. Rit doesn’t bind to polyester, which is plastic. Acrylic paint will. This looks like a short pile olefin rug and no dyes will bind to that.
    It looks great! But I went to art school, we had to do chemistry of these things. You don’t want dye coming off in the house.

    • @MessinwithMeggie
      @MessinwithMeggie  2 года назад +2

      Hi! All of the above is actually true (I am a clothing designer) but it has actually worked out on this rug! There was definitely some dye transfer at first but after vacuuming well a few times, the dye has actually set well and doesn’t transfer at all. I’ve had it for about 3 years now, and with a rug pad underneath, I have had no issues! I use it in my office and walk on it all day everyday and never have any dye transfer. Definitely a good warning though, so thank you for sharing! 😊

    Here's my concern with trying this. I have a large over-dyed carpet in my kitchen. As a high-traffic area, we keep it clean with a home carpet "steamer." The problem is, we've found that every time we use the carpet machine, it removes a little bit of the dye. And so after about 3 years, while the carpet is in great condition, it has faded considerable. So, with your technique, I'm guessing dying it would create the same issue when running a steam machine on it? I'm wonder if it might work if one locks in the color with Scotchguard or such?

    • @MessinwithMeggie
      @MessinwithMeggie  3 года назад

      Hi Philip! Great question! I would imagine that using a steam cleaner on it would continue to remove the dye over time. I would say trying scotch guard would be a great idea since it doesn’t affect the look or feel of what you apply it to! It couldn’t hurt to try! Let me know how it works out for you! 😊
