Thank you for the tips. I’m loving my French lav but recently noticed it was a bit dull underneath. I sort of knew what to do but just wanted to make sure I was right and your video helped me a lot thanks
Thanks Cindy! When you say prune January, I assume you mean in Australia? I have a huge lavender hedge outside my fence and I’ve failed to keep it pruned and the heavy rains last summer seemed to really affect it. They look horrible woody etc. I did prune a few of them and they died so I’ve purt some new cuttings in! Anyway thanks so much. Ps im in Kiama
Hi Cindy I have a 65cm tall 2 year old french lavender. Its been a very long cold and wet year in the UK so far with very few warm days. The flowers are now spent. Should i prune it now and if so how much should i take off
Hi there! I would prune off by half and it will give it a chance to regrow with a lot of fresh growth and then another flush of long stemmed flowers. It keeps it young. :)
Hi Cindy, great video for me as I am about to prune my french lavander in Melbourne. Did you do the same depth of cutting previously when your plants were 1-2 years old? Thanks for your reply!
Yes I did. The same height each year even if it prunes into dead and old wood. Otherwise they end up outgrowing themselves and don’t live as long. Have fun with your pruning!
If it doesn't look healthy, pruning is always the answer. Lavendars don't like it too wet so if your plant is in the ground and the soil is heavy and wet, you can add some well drained potting mix to the top and plant on a mound.
yes, I just compost it. French Lavendar has camphor in it so it isn't the culinary one. The many varieties of English Lavendar are the ones you can eat or make dried things with it.
It's 3 years old. And Lavendars can out grow themselves to death so that's why I cut it back so much each year. It can live indefinitely using this method.
😂🤣Love the tools. We just planted French Lavender in our garden in Alabama. Thank you for the wonderful information. 🙏❤️
I did exactly these same with mine and it's growing beautifully.
That tool is nuts lol
I was scared you were young to cut yourself at first. Great video!!!! Thank you
I loved your video, very conscise and I finally know what lavander I have and how to treat it. You should make more gardening videos ;). Salutations

I'm glad that helped you. The Lavendar is really going to appreciate that sort of pruning.
Well done, I would love to see more, so many youtubers from USA but not many from Oz.
Love the tools...you can never have enough.
I know, right!
This video really helps.
Great video. Was surprised at the low subscriber count!

Yes, that's right, Australia. The timing for you would be late summer so that it can grow well and flower for winter.

And lastly do I need to prune again later on for next summer's new growth 🤔
Great information thank you!!
Good vid! Tools make it a lot quicker and easier I know. But now you have to do the rest of the yard. Lol.

How old is this lavender? Just both little one for our garden
Can I prune mine now? Or too late too early? Seems the hot weather in the uk has killed mine a bit x

do you use your lavender for anything after, instead of just composting it?

How old is that lavender? its HUGE!

Like your tips Cindy but can't hear you a lot of the time because of wind noise around the microphone. Be great to hear you well!
Thank you for that. I've just got myself a cordless mic so hopefully future videos will be better.
Hope she doesn’t trim her husbands hair!!!
