They were in a very abusive relationship where Phil was controlling, and was physically and emotionally abusive. He would hide Ronnie’s shoes so she couldnt run away, and threatened her by saying if she ever tried to escape, he would display her corpse in a glass casket “If you ever try to leave me I’ll find you, Ronnie.”. In an attempt to piece together their marriage, Phil adopted twins as a “gift” to Ronnie on Christmas, hence the lyrics “The Christmas kids were nothing but a gift, love is a tower where all of us can live.” Ronnie eventually escaped him, but unfortunately passed in 2022 due to cancer. May she rest in peace.
