Dianxi's videos always makes me realize how labor and time intensive it is to deliver food from farm to table and I feel embarassed everytime I have to dump unfinished and spoiled food into trash bin ;; I hope I, and everyone else can appreciate food more and minimizing food waste ;;

@@mirarami1055 yes its a rule in my family that everyone have to finish what they take into their plate, and leftover definitely goes to fridge to reheat. But we are not perfect and sometimes we forgot to reheat our rice or cooked meal, or there are some food forgotten in the depth of fridge, or there are some fried snacks that had become too hard to eat even after reheating...things like that. We live in a city so we cant keep chicken/fish to feed our food waste, or to process them into compost. In the village it sure is easier to make optimal use of food waste ;; I always feel wasteful to dump spoiled food but after one severe incident of food poisoning after I force myself to eat kinda spoiled food my dad made, I never do it again :')

if you bought hard tofu, I'm in canada, we have it in most supermarket, usually beside cheees in cooling area. You could cut tofu to slice, pan fried to surface crispy, since tofu is cooked already, no need to worry about if it's cooked long enough. Then mix it with curry powder or souce, salt and pepper is also good choice, mix the tofu with seasoning. It's ready to go. lovely simple dish, it's also a very good choice to add on salad.

Some of these "recipes" take DAYS! I'm thinking to myself "Well, I might be hungry this coming Monday, so I better go get those soybeans now".... I am growing some Cassava, and recently tried a traditional preparation of it where you let the cassava roots basically rot in some water until the get soft, you can get the starch out. It's a little smelly, and takes several days. Plus you have to dig up the roots at the beginning and peel them, and when you finally GET the starch you have to actually cook it. So if you start on Monday you might be eating this on the WEEKEND. And this in a world where people drink instant coffee because they don't have four minutes to make real coffee.... It's very sobering.
Leonard Pearlman I’m growing cassava too. Haven’t figured out where to begin after harvest. I think I’ll just boil them like potatoes. It’s stringy so you mash it then add butter or salt/pepper to give it flavor. I won’t attempt to replicate the “milling” process to separate starch. You’re a brave man, Mr. Pearlman. It's a hard labour work to cook like this from scratch to finish. She could have done it much easier with all the modern equipment but bravo for sticking to the old methods, giving a peek on how our ancestors eat & live. Love it.

Some of these "recipes" take DAYS! I'm thinking to myself "Well, I might be hungry this coming Monday, so I better go get those soybeans now".... I am growing some Cassava, and recently tried a traditional preparation of it where you let the cassava roots basically rot in some water until the get soft, you can get the starch out. It's a little smelly, and takes several days. Plus you have to dig up the roots at the beginning and peel them, and when you finally GET the starch you have to actually cook it. So if you start on Monday you might be eating this on the WEEKEND. And this in a world where people drink instant coffee because they don't have four minutes to make real coffee.... It's very sobering.
Leonard Pearlman I’m growing cassava too. Haven’t figured out where to begin after harvest. I think I’ll just boil them like potatoes. It’s stringy so you mash it then add butter or salt/pepper to give it flavor.

I love and admire her sustainable way of living. A simple life, yet so fulfilling and full of joy and love. It's very interesting to see her created a variety of dishes from one ingredient, soya bean. Dawang is such an adorable gentle giant. I really enjoy watching their loving, caring and loyal companionship. In today's money-driven and consumerism society, people become greedy and selfish, never feel enough of what they have and chasing for happiness that never seems to be attainable. Maybe going back to basics is the way to go.

It's a hard labour work to cook like this from scratch to finish. She could have done it much easier with all the modern equipment but bravo for sticking to the old methods, giving a peek on how our ancestors eat & live. Love it.

Grandma is strong because she has always been physically active. You have back pains in your 20s because you are not physically active. It's not a mystery. And if you are physically weak now, what will you be like in your 50s? Get off your phone and go outside.

Her grandmother is a rock star! I think she learned all those recipes from GM coz she’s always in the vids. I’ve only seen her mother once during the family introduction vid by Goldthread. Uncle Ping is a hoot & his wife show up at dinner time sometimes. This is one family saga I love watching. It’s very simple, peaceful and loving atmosphere. Even neighbors are nice to each other.
