Great video! I especially like how comfortable you guys are doing everything. It inspires confidence in me doing it all myself. Even though I’m a hvac technician by trade for over 20 years, I’m very new to riding motorcycles. Just started riding in late 2020 and just got my second bike, a ‘21 Low Rider S in February when I traded in my ‘20 iron 883 for it. What a difference! Anyway, I’m scared to death to “mess something up” on my beautiful, new, motorcycle so it’s inspiring to see how confidently and easily you guys do the job yourselves! Seriously! I feel much better about doing it all myself after watching you guys! Thanks a bunch!
Thanks Robby!! Glad to hear we could inspire some confidence. Hey G&L, thanks for the "tag-team" fluid change procedures! I'm an auto mechanic and about to get a Harley for "wind therapy" traveling. You guys display the right way to care for your rides and insuring it's long life with a trouble-free existence. It's worth the money to get long life and faithful service from your transportation. I'm 57, and, getting a late start on motorcycling that I've had a desire for doing since my mid 20's! I'll be keeping an eye on your video's for further cycle care! Doug
What's up, Doug!! Thanks for tuning in! Glad we could share some cycle care with ya. Great to hear you finally pulled the trigger on two wheels, it's a great way to travel and explore. We've got plenty more videos where that came from. See ya down the road!
@@2LaneLife I've grown up around motorcycling age 14, and, have felt so comfortable with it right from the start! Got to "ride" twice in my early 20's then nothing until it hit my early 50's, it STILL felt the same from 30 years earlier so I know I HAVE to get my hands on a cycle and enjoy that "wind therapy"! I'll be in touch with you two all along the way!😁🤓🧸 Doug
Thanks for the video. I'm a fairly new rider and I'm trained in automotive tech but bikes are foreign to me. This helped me gain the confidence necessary to save the money and do the three hole oil change on my 08 Electra Glide myself. Great video 👍🏻
Thanks for watching, Ryan! Glad it could help you out a bit. We recently uploaded an updated version as well, showing how we do it on the jiffy stand instead of a lift. Either way, after a couple times, it's second nature👍
If you can still get them, using a cleaners folded shirt cardboard is great for directing oil filter change overflow. You can cut it to fit around your filter while installed on bike and use the treated side up for easy flow. Wipe off and use it again & again. Just a thought.
I love this. You guys have inspired me so much. I've ordered Oil Change In A Box. Went out and got a nice low profile oil pan, got a buddy with a lift about 15 minutes down the road. I'm all in. On another note- do you guys perform ALL the work on your bikes? For example.. the 5k or 10k service, etc, that Harley recommends. Is there a checklist you guys use to keep your bike tip top? Anyway... love the videos, love what you're doing, more maintenance vids please!! Thanks guys!! :)
Thanks for the comments! We do perform most of the work on our bikes. We use their checklist and just in general always looking to see what needs the love. More vids on the way and again thank you for the support. PS Question; did you know we offer the Oil Change in a Box on our site? I know our shipping was high but we fixed that. Look at us for your next kit or anything related to your bike. If we don have something we can get it.
Guys great video. I've watched so many videos on YT and most of them suck, but yours is spot on good. Good job explaining and demonstrating the process. I am more confident now than I was before on doing these three things. What did it cost for you to do everything, besides time? I'll be saving this video and watching it again in the future. Hope you'll do more videos: if I may request a video on spoke tightening; of course if you have spokes lol.
Thanks Mike! Make sure you use a 5/8 not a 9/16’s like the video says. We sometimes Make mistakes when we film even though we’ve done it ourselves our whole bike life.

Thanks for posting..Primary oil reservoir? I don’t own a Harley big twin but am considering it. My 1500 cc metric cruiser I use to have I serviced. The engine and trans used the same oil, so only one drain plug to take out. It had a shaft drive. I’d change the oil for that during each service.. Great video…The lift would be a must..
Thanks Bo!! We usually just do oil changes on the jiffy stand but borrowed one of Thrashin's lifts for this video. Not entirely sure what brand, it's been a while
Thanks for the great video! One trivial note....I don't believe I ever saw you actually put the new filter on. ;-) Off to go change my own oil now! LOLd at the gangster CVO graphic as I have a '16 CVO Road Glide Ultra. Thanks again and ride safe!
I did not see that filter come off either. It must have been that they edited out the part where oil went everywhere and drained down on the floor when they pulled the filter off the housing. I do it a little differently. I leave the bike on the jiffy stand so it is leaning toward the left (like normal). Then I take a small punch and knock a hole in the bottom of the filter followed up by another hole at the top of the filter (to let it breath). Put a piece of cardboard or tin foil under the filter to catch any oil that is coming out of the punch hole. This empties the oil filter before you pull it off and dump oil everywhere.
Hello Sir , i am looking for changing oil`s on 1987 electra glide Video here in youtube with no luck , maybe you have info or maybe know where to find or maybe you are going to make video about it in the future ? it really helps me ( and sure others also) a lot . thank you in advance , greetings from Swiss
I bought a used 2018 hd fatboy from the dealer and it did come with brand new tires but the oil looked blacker than the blackhole lol I'm changing it Nomattter what How can they sell it like that Should have checked it when I was there
Yea, they should have put fresh oil in there before selling it, that's for sure! Luckily you noticed quickly and can get the 'ol Fat Boy freshened up. Thanks for watching!
Very instructional video there guys.. Thank You. Just one question if I may. I just bought an after market derby cover for my 2018 Breakout however, I am in the UK and struggling to find a gasket like the one in the video. Is that a OEM part or aftermarket?
Thanks for watching! That should be an OEM part as the interior side of the derby over is usually the same or similar enough to the original to use the same type of gasket. Hope that helps
You should wash after oil change in my opinion. During one of mine, I saw oil splatter at the top of my rear cylinder. Wiped clean, then kept an eye on it. It was there again. Valve cover gasket leaking. Luckily covered under warranty. Definitely can find issues during oil changes.
Great video, am doing mine today , bought from dealer with dirty fluids. I think only thing you could have improved on was the exact types of fluids besides the 20W50. I was able to blow up the one bottle a bit to read but I don't think you really stated what you put in transmission, or if you did think you could have held up bottle and said this is what we put in for transmission, this for Primary, yes I could read primary but no numbers, ran video back, I never heard you say what you put in for tranny. Yes I know you can use the 20w50 in all 3,I phoned Harley dealer he said that and added the dealer uses 20w50 for all 3, but he personally uses another product in his, a heavier synthetic , 80_140 something like that. Some confusion there for me did you use 2 or 3 different fluids , I have no idea
Thanks for checking out the video, Joseph! This was one of our very first videos from a couple years ago. We have since done multiple updated versions with some better info and camera work. Glad you found this one useful though👍
Hey Tom. The M8's are known for the oil pressure build up. The Vented Dip Stick help's in releasing some of that build up. We really like the Feuling Model. More detail on the pressure build up in the description on the site. Under Engine Components. Costs a little more than some of the other brands but when you see the quality of the part people then understand. It has a quick release and is an actual dipstick. Many of the other brands don't have the dipstick incorporated so you have to carry your stock dipstick with you if you need to check your oil. Hope that helps! You can check them out on the site, which I know you're familiar with. Thanks for the question and comment.
What is today's cost for a 3 hole oil change kit for a 2014 street glide? I called a small local guy the other day and he said 80 bucks... seems strange....I can't find the stuff to do it myself for cheaper than that.
Very important! We change our oil every ~3k miles, and do a complete 3-hole change nearly every time. It keeps your bike running smooth, and is just another part of essential maintenance to keep you bike running for as long as possible. Yep, we do it ourselves Thanks for watching, Roofer Rob!
Hey guys, thanks for the informative vids. I will be inheriting a FXS 80 from1979. Are the plugs usually located in the same location as the bike in your video? Cheers
Check with your dealership or your manual. We have M8's and four plugs. But the answer is yes and no. You will only have two plugs and generally speaking they are located in the same area as what you see in the Vid. On the outside and top area of the Cylinders on the left hand side. Hope that helps.
I have a question on the type of oil! Do you need to use 3 different bottles for the oils (transmission, primary, motor) or can you use one that says it is for all 3 on the bottle?
Depends on the bike and oil. There are oils that claim to do all 3, and we've heard mixed reviews using that for newer bikes. We just like to use what's recommended to ensure the drivetrain is healthy for miles to come 👍
I have a tip for you guys take an old screwdriver or a punch and punch a hole into the bottom outside of the oil filter and then do a little hole at the top for a vent put a piece of plastic bottle that you cut out and run it into your oil pan when you punch the holes oil will run down into the plastic then into the pan😎
We put four courts in about 1/8 in the oil filter. Do that first so it has time to soak in while your doing other things. And add another 1/8-1/4 of the quart. And the rest in the Saddle Bag. Each bike is a little different do what works for you.
Hey guys I just subscribe to your channel, great stuff that you guys are doing. Question that Oil kit box that you guys are selling on your website do that comes in synthetic oil? Because that's what I run in my 3 holes 010 street glide.
Yup, sounds like they're having a hard time sourcing plastics at the moment. We have the quick change kits for M8s in stock on our site, but it looks like the only brand stocking full oil change kits is S&S. Thanks for watching, Jim! 2lanelife.com/collections/oil-change-kits If you see anything you like, feel free to use the code RUclips for 10% off 🤘
When you can you expect to have the V-TWIN OIL CHANGE KIT back in inventory. Otherwise I'm just going to either pickup local or on Amazon. Would love to support your side hustle
On your website is says '84-'99 evolution engines. I have a 114 softail twin 2020 Heritage bike, will it work on this? Or do you recommend something else?
Let me clarify. It takes between 30-32 oz's wet. Servicing your Harley is considered wet, while if you were rebuilding it is dry it could take up to 34 oz. Hope that helps.
Typically, we put a drop of oil on there which usually gets the job done. We don't usually use anti seize, but as long as it's not a glob that could make it's way into the oil, then maybe that could help if you've had issues with getting plugs out before
Oil volume can certainly vary, and with the 120R having some different components and oil pressure needs, it's probably a little different. Somewhere between 4 and 5 quarts though
We tend to ride 50-60,000 miles a year with plenty of long trips throughout the year, so while we may not change it every 3k miles, we tend to be closer to 3k than 5k to ensure everything is fresh and good to go before a long trip where there may be high temps and other factors. The manual does recommend every 5k miles
Hey guys instead of the strap wrench get one of the claw type with 3 arms that grip the filter. Harley tighten like a gorilla did it. it works great...
What lifts are ya using? Also you stated a 9/16 for your drain plugs, im running a 2018 Road Glide, and the drain plugs are 5/8. Did this change? I also had a 2006 Heritage, it was 5/8 as well. Just curious..thank you, Safe travels! Enjoy your videos
Also on a 2020 Harley Heritage Softail 114, which would you recommend that I get for oil, filter, primary and transmission fluid? Which package, can't locate the milwaukee 8 Kit or at least there are multiple options and I'm uncertain which one to purchase that you'd recommend.
I ordered a box on Friday for $85, I haven't wrenched on a bike in about 20 years, getting a bike again has been, well you know...better than sex, well, maybe a close 2nd. 😁
@@2LaneLife well, I found a very itty-bitty piece (just one) of yellowish plastic. Thank God I didn't have to remove any pipes or anything in order to get the cam cover off to be able to inspect the tensioners, inner one looks brand new still, outer has very very little wear to it, couple small pits, so I'm going to fix that one real soon, I think I'm having just as much fun wrenching as I am riding. 😂
Thanks for your time. For the life of me why do Harley guys insist on never using a torque wrench on fasteners? EVERY nut and bolt on a Harley has a torque value. You seem to take maintenance seriously ........................but..........................no torque wrench? I just don't get it. You CAN NOT "feel" correct torque values no matter how many times you did it in the past. You were doing it wrong from the start.
Ok , put your lawyer glasses on and do not take any responsibility of the content in the oil change or the oil company, I really am not confident in the product or the information in this video , so go buy a manual and read it , don’t believe anything you hear and only half of what you see ✅

We just like to use what's recommended to ensure the drivetrain is healthy for miles to come 👍
Thx Guys Great job
Thank you for watching! Hope it helps. Use a 5/8 though. Thanks again!
Thanks for the tip Glen!
4.5 quarts isn’t too much? My 114 takes about 4. It’s measures half the dip stick.
It sure does. We run Maxima 20-50 Synthetic. Hope that helps.
That oil change in a box is sold out everywhere
Yup, sounds like they're having a hard time sourcing plastics at the moment. We have the quick change kits for M8s in stock on our site, but it looks like the only brand stocking full oil change kits is S&S.
Thanks for watching, Jim!

If you see anything you like, feel free to use the code RUclips for 10% off 🤘
Amazon has it
Is it the same for a free wheeler?
It should be. Make sure to double check your manual for oil volumes👍
Great Information!
Thanks Derek! We appreciate the comment and support. Ride On!
When you can you expect to have the V-TWIN OIL CHANGE KIT back in inventory. Otherwise I'm just going to either pickup local or on Amazon. Would love to support your side hustle
It’s in stock. No Chrome on the 3 hole but Chrome and Black on the Quick Change
On your website is says '84-'99 evolution engines. I have a 114 softail twin 2020 Heritage bike, will it work on this? Or do you recommend something else?
The 84-99 Kits are for Evolution motors from those years. a 202 Heritage would need a Milwaukee 8 Kit
What grade of oil like 20w50 or straight 50
We’re 20w50 guys
AMZOIL !
20-50 V TWIN oil
??
I seen you only put 1 quart in the primary, I thought it took 1.4 qt?
one quart takes it to the proper level
Let me clarify. It takes between 30-32 oz's wet. Servicing your Harley is considered wet, while if you were rebuilding it is dry it could take up to 34 oz. Hope that helps.
Thanks for that
Is that a 114?
how many miles were on your bike
Big Lance had 62k and Xerox 6200
4 1/2 qts of engine oil in a V twin ?????
M8
I’ve been using anti-seize on the drain plugs. In your view, is this something worth doing or a waste of money?
Typically, we put a drop of oil on there which usually gets the job done. We don't usually use anti seize, but as long as it's not a glob that could make it's way into the oil, then maybe that could help if you've had issues with getting plugs out before
Great video guys! I do want to point out that your title is misleading, seeing as you’re working on M8 engines and not Big Twins.
Does this apply to a 120R
Oil volume can certainly vary, and with the 120R having some different components and oil pressure needs, it's probably a little different. Somewhere between 4 and 5 quarts though
You pronounced "Prescott" like a local...good job.
Haha we do our best! Thanks for watching, Gary!
Autozone takes used oil to
They sure do👍
CVO = clean very often!!!
👍👍
Change all 3 holes at 3k miles? Doesn’t the manual state to change it every 5k?
We tend to ride 50-60,000 miles a year with plenty of long trips throughout the year, so while we may not change it every 3k miles, we tend to be closer to 3k than 5k to ensure everything is fresh and good to go before a long trip where there may be high temps and other factors. The manual does recommend every 5k miles
Nice !
Thanks!! Have a great day!! We appreciate the support!
So it 20winter50 not 20weight50. Haha great video. Thanks guys
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks!!
12:39 🤣
Hey guys instead of the strap wrench get one of the claw type with 3 arms that grip the filter. Harley tighten like a gorilla did it. it works great...
Thanks Freddie Ray. We have both. But that strap works well too. Have a great day!
@@2LaneLife Punching a large flat head into the end works well too. Then unscrew like a screw.
Sold out?
Yes, unfortunately getting plastic is a big problem.
What lifts are ya using? Also you stated a 9/16 for your drain plugs, im running a 2018 Road Glide, and the drain plugs are 5/8. Did this change? I also had a 2006 Heritage, it was 5/8 as well. Just curious..thank you,
Safe travels! Enjoy your videos
No, it’s 5/8 made a an off the cuff comment. Funny cause we change our oil every-time.
@@2LaneLife Thank you, I kinda thought that! Lol...what lift?
K&L MC615R

Thanks Man!! We appreciate the support!
Great video my dudes...keep crushing it!!🔥 🇺🇸 ❤️
@@carlosvasquez3457 Thanks Brother! We appreciate it!
Also on a 2020 Harley Heritage Softail 114, which would you recommend that I get for oil, filter, primary and transmission fluid? Which package, can't locate the milwaukee 8 Kit or at least there are multiple options and I'm uncertain which one to purchase that you'd recommend.
3 hole kit with 20w50
In all honesty, I’m intimidated to try alone, but I don’t want to definitely pay $430 at Harley
It's fairly simple. We'll be filming an updated video in the coming weeks to show you how we change the oil on the kickstand only. Stay tuned 👍
"W" in 20W50 doesn't stand for "weight" it stands for "winter"
The grade is the weight which we’re referring to.
I ordered a box on Friday for $85, I haven't wrenched on a bike in about 20 years, getting a bike again has been, well you know...better than sex, well, maybe a close 2nd. 😁
Awesome!! Nothin like a quick oil change to get wrenching again and refresh those skills. Maybe a close second😂
And dealers have the audacity to charge $500 for this? 😂
We like to do our own. We know the bike better by doing our own work. And we save money. 👍👍
9/16 for plugs? I don't think so.
Read the first line in the video description.
Thanks for the comment. We understand your point.
@@2LaneLife Its called German torque. Guten Tite
I use the cheapest oil available.
Your call…
@@2LaneLife I was just kidding 😂
Good info, but it's hard to take you seriously when you use words like "unloosen"...
We don’t script our stuff and do things in typically one take. Could we go fix things like that, sure but hey we are who we are.
CVO🤣
😂🤘💨
Ok , put your lawyer glasses on and do not take any responsibility of the content in the oil change or the oil company, I really am not confident in the product or the information in this video , so go buy a manual and read it , don’t believe anything you hear and only half of what you see ✅
The "w" doesn't stand for weight. It is winter.
