Mark and tender captain! I love the fact that you want to do things right and love your laid back attitude. Appreciate this is a steep learning curve but you seem to embrace it and are enjoying every moment. I love the Nordhaven I love these vessels but for me just a dream, enjoy every moment.
Learning seems to be a recurring theme Mark and Sweetie. We are learning too. You both are giving us married couples lessons in getting along with each other. Beer, good wine and food seem to work quite well. I’m taking that lesson seriously. Love the video.
One day you will be sitting in a very busy place, busy island or anchorage and then you will think, with pleasure, of that one time you had the restaurant, the port and basically the whole island to yourself. Those are the things that make it special, because nowadays, with the millions of tourists everywhere, those places are harder and harder to find. Hope you were able to make the crossing to Athens this week, the seas were pretty horrendous when we went with the ferry from Athens to Kos. Don't know if you read my email, but I think you will love the Eartec ultralite headphones. No more shouting, no more confusion, just plain and clear conversation. Nice video again.
Glad to see that you’re not afraid to venture into unfamiliar waters, already crossing a sea in your Nordhavn with a 2 meter swell so early into owning her. Seems to be in the Kiwi DNA, first to climb Everest etc. Looking forward to seeing how she performs above a moderate sea state in future and all the interesting places along the way.
I'm glad you made it to Anafi, my wife and I spent two weeks living on a beach there in 2001 during a 3 month motorbike tour of Europe. It's a sweet little island and not very touristy. There was a taverna about half a mile to the south of the port by the nearest beach. Thoroughly enjoying your explorations, thank you for sharing with us.
Such a beautiful area you are in and such a lovely lady to prepare that meal for you, happy adventures and Happy Birthday Renae. Looking forward to the next episode, fair winds.😊
Love your channel guys. A definite joy to watch. The long videos are perfect and your take on life is so refreshing. When docking alongside, in most situations we ALWAYS tie the stern line first, even if its loose. Your bow thruster can then be used to bring boat alongside. This method as a cruising couple has worked on our trawler for years. Dont change anything on your channel. Well done.
Love seeing you guys getting on with the boat. Seeing the problems as well as your living experiences on the boat. Simple things but most entertaining.
Hi to you both what a wonderful episode just shows what is needed in arriving at a different port..well done for your handling with it all...look forward to the next episode....😊
Great series, really enjoy your candor and ability to try something new and learn from the experience. You'll be able to handle any situation with aplomb soon! One addition to equipment I encourage you to consider would be headsets for both of you when docking or anchoring. No yelling, no missed instructions, no stressful moments, just clear, calm communication.

100%…we are just conscious at the moment of what we are spending. Will get settled into a routine and then the nice to haves can come. I have a camera mount on the back and recently got the backing onto marina so watch this space!
Great seeing you guys running up the learning curve! One tip for doing an oil change (and maybe you are already doing this). After you pump out the used oil, run some new oil into the system (mains, genny, etc) and then pump that back out. Otherwise you are pushing old oil back in (the oil that’s in the plumbing lines).

Another great video. We are really enjoying watching your travels while you are learning all the little tricks of your new boat. From experience it’s always a challenge. A purchase you might consider is a set of waterproof wireless headsets for you both. I believe that there are people near the marina that can handle all the fuss of bureaucracy (for a fee) while you enjoy the sun and a cold drink on the deck
I presume that someone else has pointed out that the solar panels would not provide a charge when you had your computer sitting on the panel! The panel, as a whole, only works to the extent of its worst performing section. The section that your computer is sitting on cannot generate and, therefore, the panel cannot generate.
Budgeting has never been one of my strong points. If the time comes that we cannot afford this we will sell Awanui or sell something back home if she means too much to us. Operating a boat the way we are is all about cashflow….dollars go out so dollars must come in. It is expensive but not horrendous…..we will do a video on what it all costs soon once we have enough data to make sense. Fuel all the way to NZ I suspect will be in the order of $50,000US depending on how much puttering around we do. Likely more!
I know this is months ago, but when you are coming in or out, it would be nice to view what you are looking at and not be watching you and having no idea what you are seeing or talking about.
Mark just wondering, no criticism, but why did you opt for a steering wheel rather than a joy stick? I'm old school and have used nothing but steering wheels BUT I know that electronic joy sticks are the thing. Was it because you flew a Boeing rather than an Airbus? LOL. By the way, wouldn't your "Transit Log" be the Log you kept from your point of departure to where you are now? That's provable by your GPS Log.
My 2 cents.......Someday you will learn the hard way not to try any USB port you'l find somewhere! Unless you don't care about a virus or a hack on your computer or phone connected to it. There are 27 Schengen countries you can visit, so Albania is not the best choise to avoid all that paperwork over and over again. Otherwise, make sure you a have little foldable bike on the boat.

Yip on the list
I believe that there are people near the marina that can handle all the fuss of bureaucracy (for a fee) while you enjoy the sun and a cold drink on the deck
Yip but it all ads up believe me. Trying to do what we can when possible. Greece effort probably saves a couple of hundred Euros
I presume that someone else has pointed out that the solar panels would not provide a charge when you had your computer sitting on the panel! The panel, as a whole, only works to the extent of its worst performing section. The section that your computer is sitting on cannot generate and, therefore, the panel cannot generate.
Needs the wires connected also
The iPad also requires more current then conventional phones which that solar panel may not be able to produce.
Everyone is an expert…do this don’t ,do that, you need this, you don’t need that
Love the comments but yes you are right
If you are going to charge something, dont put the thing you are going to charge on the solar panel😂
Oops
What’s your fuel budget for motoring back to NZ?
Budgeting has never been one of my strong points. If the time comes that we cannot afford this we will sell Awanui or sell something back home if she means too much to us. Operating a boat the way we are is all about cashflow….dollars go out so dollars must come in. It is expensive but not horrendous…..we will do a video on what it all costs soon once we have enough data to make sense. Fuel all the way to NZ I suspect will be in the order of $50,000US depending on how much puttering around we do. Likely more!
@@AwanuiNZ not too bad, well worth it for the experience! I’m sure you’ll make it and it’ll be the journey of a lifetime 👍
Wouldn’t it be better to just have two flag poles
I know this is months ago, but when you are coming in or out, it would be nice to view what you are looking at and not be watching you and having no idea what you are seeing or talking about.
I get it…
Port not left, Moored or docked not parked. You will never win over bureaucracy.
Another great video. The scenery was amazing.
We will get there
Thanks so much
Mark just wondering, no criticism, but why did you opt for a steering wheel rather than a joy stick? I'm old school and have used nothing but steering wheels BUT I know that electronic joy sticks are the thing. Was it because you flew a Boeing rather than an Airbus? LOL. By the way, wouldn't your "Transit Log" be the Log you kept from your point of departure to where you are now? That's provable by your GPS Log.
Flew both…no option for joystick. You would think so
My 2 cents.......Someday you will learn the hard way not to try any USB port you'l find somewhere! Unless you don't care about a virus or a hack on your computer or phone connected to it.
There are 27 Schengen countries you can visit, so Albania is not the best choise to avoid all that paperwork over and over again. Otherwise, make sure you a have little foldable bike on the boat.
Mmm…not good at thinking about the worst I am afraid…good point
There is no way your auto pilot should yaw 40 degrees in such small seas. That's not correct. You best look into that.
Agreed
