Wow! I just watched this in November 2023 and am overcome with Dave Ramsey's and his team's empathy and kindness to help a pregnant woman in this situation
She claims the "Daddy" is "excited" about the baby but is not contributing financially in any way. I don't think the word "excited" means what Kathy thinks it means. She should have danced all night.
I thought about this comment been in her shoes more than I can admit and excitement doesn’t equal not paying excitement means I’m stepping up to plate and providing and were gonna do this together. Respectfully.
Are you saying she should have killed her child? If you think of it that way, that's how she decided to keep her child. Now if you are asking why she had relations, then that is a great question. Adults should think more about the people they are with and their current situation before sharing a bed.
I'll never understand why men have unprotected sex with women knowing they are incapable of supporting a family and will be the worst possible parent to that child -- an absent one. He should've been more responsible, chosen better, and made sure he knew the woman (and her beliefs around religion/children/abortion, etc.) before c*mming inside of her. I will never understand why men do this.
Yeah she followed pretty much none of them. She's having a baby before being married, is clearly not on the same page as her baby's father in terms of finances, certainly doesn't have an emergency fund established, has a car loan, and thinks her next logical step is to get a credit card to pay these expenses.
I never understood why Dave suggest not paying rent first. Housing is the hardest thing to secure again once it’s lost. There are lots of organizations to help her with food and gas/electric support. She may need to tap into her resources if she’s really drowning like this with no helpful partner in sight.
It depends on the state, but in states like California, the eviction process can take several months due to the number of cases and the number of houseless people that they don't want to add to. Since evictions can take a long time, it's best not to prioritize it above food. Also, if you're looking at Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, shelter (safety) falls after physiological needs like food, water, and warmth.
@@SweetEssie If you are lucky, the process may take months, but an eviction stays on your record for a minimum of seven years. Even without an eviction, housing is hard to secure at the income mentioned. The courts don't care about the number of unhoused and are not taking that into consideration when choosing to enforce eviction. It would be nice if they did, but its just not a consideration. Additionally, In the Heirachy of needs, shelter is added into the base level of physiological.
Well. He has food first which is obvious. You will literally die if you don’t eat. You can’t live without utilities and thru can be shut off quickly. It takes a long time to get evicted and actually lose your housing. You clearly didn’t think things through the way Dave did
The problem is that those resources may not be able to provide, due to so many people needing help. The baby's father needs to step up his game and start forking over some $$$.
Young men, always make sure you have protection. If you’re with a woman and she says she’s pregnant and has your child always ask for a paternity test. If it’s your child, you need to step up and do the right thing and help take care of the child. you don’t want to be in the situation? There’s only one way to prevent it.
Don't trust the woman to be responsible with birth control. I had a married friend who was happy with 3 kids. His wife deceived him two more times and the poor guy is supporting a family of 7 now, even though he told her no.
My husband is in military med school and just his psychiatric rotation. One lady came in after having a nervous breakdown. She had two very small children, both under 3, and was working 2 part time jobs on top of her full-time job in the Army to support them and it was basically breaking her mind. The baby daddy, also a service member, provided nothing for the children and apparently the reason she wouldn't get him to is because she felt guilty asking. While I truly hope she has healing and gets those babies the monetary support they need from their father, I cannot imagine reproducing not once, but TWICE with a man-child who will not support his own children despite a full-time income. I think my husband would die before he voluntarily stopped providing for us.
@@carolr7823 The biggest piece of foolishness to which I referred was her having two part-time jobs in addition to supposedly keeping our country safe by being paid to serve in the military. That should not be permitted. I also do not think that anyone who has two small children can serve effectively when the other parent is also in the military. This should not be permitted in my opinion.
We live in a day and age where men and women have easy options for birth control and this still happens on a massive scale. Just complete ignorance and lack of concern. What is this dynamic with women choosing the bad boys? The man child instead of seeking a quality partner? I just don't understand that self destructive behavior.
So, our mothers taught us, "If you do not control your fertility, you can not control your life." Birth control is part of your life. Getting pregnant was not a concern for her.
And the crazy part about situations like this is that they choose to ignore a ton of red flags that showed that he wasn't fit to be a decent parent and they STILL think it's a good idea to procreate with guys like these. Unbelievable...smh
God, people like you are insufferable. You know nothing about her life thus far other than what was shared. And there’s millions of young people getting paid shit because of people like Dave and his buddies that think paying certain people a livable wage is unreasonable. Who exactly is she trying to blame other than herself? She made this call to attempt to improve her situation.Your need to judge and condemn less fortunate people you don’t know ought to be explored with a psychologist not in RUclips comments.
She needed 9 years of college to cut hair? 30 hours a week and she makes $300 a week cutting hair? That's $10 an hour. The math is wrong. Go to Burger King and get a raise.
Mom made a baby with a lazy man who did not marry her first, and lazy man is not paying. She needs to file now for child support so it is in process when the baby is born. Wait... I wonder if she is supporting the lazy man? That could be where any budget excess is going? Being evicted on a 15-day notice is tough. Depending on state laws, they may be able to get her out in 30 days since she technically does not have a dependent child. What a mess. 😕
💯 these guys been showing signs like this and girls sleep with them. He got no money some guys don’t work what can you get from him ? When he has nothing .
One subject that wasn't raised was to find an adoption agency and parents waiting for this woman's child. I cannot imagine how hard that could be, but for her baby it may be the most loving option.
So much judgment. She admits she is in a predicament. Now she is asking for advice on how to get out of it. Congratulations on the baby! You are going to prove to everyone how strong of a woman you are!
The living situation with baby daddy was not questioned. They may have qualified together or the landlord was desperate. Also, she was in beauty school, she may have had another job prior.
I like how Dave was trying to blame the landlord for her mistakes. 15 days she is lucky, notice is normally served after 10 days, you need to pay your rent or you out. Yeah definitely likely lied on her application.

Let me tell you DO NOT have a child unless you are in a stabled relationship/marriage and financially stabled. I was married and financially stabled but I married the worst person a person could marry and procreate with. This person almost had me lose everything I worked very hard for. I had to take the necessary measures to protect me and my son and he still hasn’t changed. I take a lot of blame but ladies and gentlemen don’t do it.
Once that baby is here I would use the hair style as a side hustle and try to find a job on the books with benefits and definitely dad needs to start paying up wish her the best luck
How are George and Dave not getting this? $2,500 a month pre tax would probably leave you with just enough to pay for a $1,500 rent payment and maybe some food. This is impossible to live off of with her rent that high
@@dixonraeeven if they do (which I do) the federal income tax takes plenty of disposable income off the table. And yes, Dave and his boys seem oblivious to that a lot of times.
Yep. In my neighborhood in a suburb of Cleveland there are ten of these women on every block. 2023 and we're still seeing this. Almost six decades in. Im not sure why they call it “intuition”. It’s just common sense. If the man ain’t shit, you should be able to infer that he will be an ain’t shit father. It’s not a special female power to use common sense.
I’ll never understand why people don’t use protection especially when they’re not in a good financial situation. As soon as a I realized how expensive raising a child was and struggled with deciding if I even want children, I made sure I got on BC and always made my partner use protection. I’m 25 and still have no desire for children. I grew up watching my mother struggle and it’s not fun. No child should have to suffer due to their parent’s lack of planning. I see so many friends and people I went to highschool with popping out kids left and right and still living in their parents basement complaining that they can’t get ahead yet they have no college education, no career, or decent paying job. Most of them don’t even know how to budget. It’s really sad. You really gotta be careful who you procreate with and WHEN you procreate. If you can’t afford it, you better wrap it up! PERIOD.

1500 a month for a single person is insane in Indianapolis. Having lived here on my own for years you can find anything from 700-1100 that is perfectly above average close to anything you need. 1 bedroom of course but the bum isn’t with her so that’s all she needs.
Exactly. My rent is under $800. I can certainly afford more on just one job (I have two jobs because I don’t want to take out a loan for flight school). But I don’t need something more expensive, so I don’t get something more expensive
I feel for the young lady. She is in a tough spot. And dad, I use the term loosely, needs to step up. Finally, Dave, your being very generous... respect. As far as the rent, I learned recently, the hard way, in the state where I live eviction proceedings must start almost immediately after the renter becomes delinquent. The property owner cannot hold a delinquent renter responsible for rent owed beyond the current month. It's called being "Renter Friendly". It can make it tough for people in a tight spot. Good luck to her.
I think Dave sometimes overestimates how much side hustles like Uber or Door Dash or similar things actually bring in. Also, that amount will be greatly affected by where you live. Not saying that those are bad options and I agree that those can be good options but some of his numbers that he throws out are crazy.
It is frustrating to hear a grown woman sharing an unplanned pregnancy story with ALL THE contraceptive options available in 2023! I commend her for deciding to keep the child.
Babies do not have to cost an arm and a leg. Babies do not need all the bells and whistles. my kids took baths in the sink. We didn't have a playpen, bouncy chair, or disposable diapers. The crib was a family loan, as was the high chair. She is late to the party. As soon as she found out she was pregnant, that was the time to go into save mode.
Unfortunately, they do! even with minimum expenses they are expensive. Just go and check how much giving birth costs these days. It is crazy to think how much they cost, and the little time parents actually have to raise their children...and I am not justifying the entitlement of mother parents here, I am just talking about plain basic care (food, bed, medical expensed, and education)
Babies do cost an arm and a leg without insurance and I'm skeptical she has insurance. And then how is she going to juggle 3 jobs with a newborn - sure can't afford childcare. She's screwed unless she can move back home with mom & dad.
You must not live in the "low rent" district. NO ONE lives like that in America anymore. Benn shopping at Sam's Club lately? None of that goes on when single mothers get probably 50k in government benefits a year, PLUS rent and whatever else. You don't even see a kid in my neighborhood who doesn't have braided hair and little Timberlands that they'll grow out of in a few weeks - even as young as one year old. You must be as old as me because that's how my parents, out of necessity, HAD to live, and we took those same values. Not anymore, not since the great LBJ.
I just don't get why some women see a super lazy guy and go, 'Yep, he's the one! Maybe he'll change when we have a kid.' ..................I mean, seriously?
Some women and men are attracted to, and/or attract, "strays." Strays are always "funny" or "nice" or "just need a little help out" of whatever crappy situation their poor choices have gotten them in. Some people honestly go through rough times and it is temporary; they are doing what needs to be done to get out of it. Strays seem to be in a constant state of mess: sporadic work, money issues, health issues, transportation issues, no place to live. Encouraging or praying for a stray costs nothing, handing them money is like flinging it into a fireplace. 🙄
Her rent is 60% of her income which explains why she is behind on her rent and auto loan. Extremely tough to live on $750 per month after the rent and car payment are paid
I must have missed the Ramsey baby step recommending that a single woman with significant debt and inadequate income get pregnant by a man with no money.
My cousin got a degree or school to be a hair stylist , she did it for a while working for a major chain department store but now she works at a restaurant because it didn’t pay and just does hair on the side
Wow, it’s a lot going on here. Can you move with family. The father of the baby shouldn’t want to see you on the street. You need a job, commission is not going to work. Is there a pregnancy center that will offer in kind services or knows of agencies that might help. Also there may be an Embrace Grace program, an organization that works in churches to walk along side single mothers.
What’s she going to do when she gets closer to delivery and after birth? Doubt she will be able to DoorDash 8 months pregnant or with a newborn as a single mom. Also, if you take every $4 order driving 10 miles to deliver you can work all day and never make any money. She doesn’t make enough to pay rent let alone have a child. Dave is not really up on the real estate market landlords and lisas. There is not much wiggle room past 5 days anymore if you're late on rent rent. And there's a lot of good reasons for the landlord side for that. As you can figure I am a landlord.

I say WOMEN need to protect themselves at ALL times, you are responsible for yourselves in the birth control department, use 2 or 3 kinds of birth control if needed and boy oh boy do I get hammered with this attitude, I am a woman and I hear that it is not only the woman that needs to be responsible. I say if you don't want a baby at this time then it IS your responsibility! I feel bad for men nowadays.....
@workonit9562 or, if they’re neither trying for a baby nor are both willing and able to accept the risk of getting pregnant, it shouldn’t be about using protection, but rather keeping their legs closed. The only time I feel any sympathy for a woman getting pregnant is when the activity that led to the pregnancy was not consensual. But if she consented, I don’t feel bad for her Same goes for men that now have to step up and pay child support. Should’ve kept it in his pants
Judges usually mandate 50 50 custody if the father requests it. Both incomes are taken into consideration and she could actually end up paying him child support. That’s happened to a few women that I know. Do not father children with men that can’t help provide. It’s a new day Dave. You are behind the times on this one.
Out of all the calls I heard from the Ramsey show, she is the one of the few that really deserve additional help. The pregancy gets the owner wanting to kick her out now.
She still never explained what she spent all that money on. The best thing the apartment building did is filed the evictions. This lady will never pay.
Give the baby up for adoption. Do not expect everyone else to support your kid. If you can't afford a kid, then don't have any. You can try to get child support. However, don't have kids with deadbeats.
Basically, the first step in most jurisdictions is to send the tenant a "Quit or Cure" notice. The length of time to cure varies between states. Landlords have different internal policies on when they send these notices upon delinquent rent.
In Indiana, where she’s from, it’s called a “pay or quit” notice. Usually, once someone receives that, they have 30 days to get current before an actual eviction gets a court date. But legally, in that state, the eviction proceedings, which include the “pay or quit” notice, can begin once someone is a day late on rent
Bad choices after bad choices. Get ready for your finances to blow up even more when you have a kid, duh. Isn’t she scared at all for this poor baby to come? I have a 4 month old and live in a comparable market to Indianapolis and we pay $950/mo for a midrange daycare, $75/mo in formula and $50/mo in diapers. How do you expect to afford to support a baby if you are struggling to support only yourself? Ugh! I feel so bad for the baby 😢
Well here’s the thing. You said “we”. Which means I would assume that if you aren’t married or with the father, he’s at least not a waste of oxygen and is doing things for his family. Because of this, you’re expected to provide for everything as a couple. Her? Well, she’ll just get housing and food assistance! Maybe also utilities assistance as well as discounted internet. Maybe some state funded daycare, too. Essentially, the government can basically replace a respectable, middle income earning guy. He's a kind man unlike many of his listeners.
The to be father is not obligated to support her or the baby until there is a viable birth
It never cease to amaze me how people who are struggling with money decides to have a kid

@@nancysmith2874 All babies are planned. They don't just spawn out of nowhere.
Are you saying she should have killed her child? If you think of it that way, that's how she decided to keep her child. Now if you are asking why she had relations, then that is a great question. Adults should think more about the people they are with and their current situation before sharing a bed.
That makes no sense. None. Are you saying every person that has sex is planning to have a baby? Ha. @@thorneto2742

Easy, the "Bad" boys make them tingle., Poindexter does not, until they are post wall.

She followed all of Dave's rules. No no you haven't.
Someone needs to box her ears
Yeah she followed pretty much none of them. She's having a baby before being married, is clearly not on the same page as her baby's father in terms of finances, certainly doesn't have an emergency fund established, has a car loan, and thinks her next logical step is to get a credit card to pay these expenses.
Yup, I think that having a kid on such conditions fall under the "no play house" category.
She forgot to add “sike!”
Exactly! Dave would say to stop playing house. Time for this guy to grow up and care of his future wife and baby.
Put him on child support my ex wife did it to me
Young men, always make sure you have protection. If you’re with a woman and she says she’s pregnant and has your child always ask for a paternity test. If it’s your child, you need to step up and do the right thing and help take care of the child. you don’t want to be in the situation? There’s only one way to prevent it.
A don’t get the cheap protection
Don't trust the woman to be responsible with birth control. I had a married friend who was happy with 3 kids. His wife deceived him two more times and the poor guy is supporting a family of 7 now, even though he told her no.
And be aware that even if paternity test proves you’re not the father, the court can still mandate you pay child support.
Maybe he isn't making good money himself.
@@Mountainhippiedude No they can't.

Dave needs to learn the term "Judgement Proof". Ole' Bubba, not going to pay anything
I believe Jesus said “the poor will always be with you.” This seems true.
He neglected to mention, though, that the stupid will always be with us too.
Some things he didn't have to say...
Dave is not really up on the real estate market landlords and lisas. There is not much wiggle room past 5 days anymore if you're late on rent rent. And there's a lot of good reasons for the landlord side for that. As you can figure I am a landlord.
You ain't a "Lord".
Why would the 'father' bother paying child support? She's about to be eligible for $80,000 in welfare nonsense from the taxpayers.
Can’t wait for the call to Rachel in 25 years from this woman’s kid, asking for advice about what to do with his or her single mom that can’t afford rent and claims they’re too old to work (at 52)
And will ve more, since the taxpayers insist on banning abortion. Low lives will have 10 kids for you to support
I'm surprised she's having such difficulty being that she's a strong and independent woman.
Lol
Dat poon duh
OUCH.
But if she consented, I don’t feel bad for her
Same goes for men that now have to step up and pay child support. Should’ve kept it in his pants
Professionally run complexes have a clause in the contract that you agree to vacate if you fail to pay rent.
Don’t worry tax payers will pay for it all……this is what’s wrong with society…….
Judges usually mandate 50 50 custody if the father requests it. Both incomes are taken into consideration and she could actually end up paying him child support. That’s happened to a few women that I know. Do not father children with men that can’t help provide. It’s a new day Dave. You are behind the times on this one.
The father is not requesting nothing, but to not pay a thing.
Out of all the calls I heard from the Ramsey show, she is the one of the few that really deserve additional help. The pregancy gets the owner wanting to kick her out now.
No she doesn’t. She chose this. Why should tax payers pick up the bill?
She still never explained what she spent all that money on. The best thing the apartment building did is filed the evictions. This lady will never pay.
Give the baby up for adoption. Do not expect everyone else to support your kid. If you can't afford a kid, then don't have any. You can try to get child support. However, don't have kids with deadbeats.
Why doesnt rent come in before lights and water?if you are evicted you wont have any utilities
She made sure she had her daily entertainment paid for.
Wifi for 'side hustle'.
And we wonder why the nuclear family is falling apart, especially in low income areas.
