This is the best video on how to make my own Witch Hazel. I have at least one full grown witch hazel tree on the property. This is exciting for me! I feel very confident after watching your how to video that I can do it. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. I’m subscribing to your channel right now.
what a "find" you are. I planted a witch hazel plant several years ago and am just now thinking it's time to learn to harvest! following your instructions I will wait until fall to harvest. many thanks !
How can I find the video on making the vodka? Has it been made yet, or can you recommend a how to? I am much more comfortable making my own Witch Hazel after watching your videos. Thank you.
I would love to learn how to make a still, have you made that video yet? I tincture a lot....brew, ferment and make herbal oils. Thanks you for your info..... I'll have t get on you tube.
You are so amazing, I like your video so much, now I will not only have amazing Witch Hazel, but also think of you everytime I spray it in my face. I'm so grateful that you do what you do Much love
My only valid reason is volume. I asked grandma the same thing . she told me it shrinks . I only let it air dry for a day or so . A large Bowl of fresh shaved bark will shrink considerably in a day or so ; allowing more bark to fit in the pot. I do not think there was any other reason for her teaching me this. I hope you find time to do this . you 'll never buy it again once you use your own
used for insect bites , rashes, hemoroids, acne, etc. A topical for skin ailments. Dawn makes an all natural insect repellent with this as base solution
@@FoundYouForaging I watched that one already, but I thought maybe you were referencing one that maybe better showed how to harvest the sticks without killing the plant. Thanks for getting back to me!

Thank you , very informative - I'm going to check out your other videos now. :)

I really enjoyed this! I'm looking forward to the vodka!!🤗
Thank you. It will be a few weeks .
could I run stripped down hazel sticks through a wood chipper and boil the wood chips? do you think that would work?
@bricebeaulac if they were green I do not see why not

Much love
I boiled mine with a reusable tea bag and added a tablespoon of alcohol I hope that way works too
Thank you for making this video. Why do you dry the bark if you're just dropping it into a pot of water anyway?

@@FoundYouForaging I absolutely plan to and have ordered some plants just based on your video. Thanks so much!
nice!
Does the vodka proof matter? 80 or 40?
I prefer 80, but it truly isn't needed. However the vodka helps extract the astringent more thoroughly and helps prolong it's shelf life.
@@FoundYouForaging wow thanks for the speedy reply, Titos it is.
Hi there..so if you use bark for witch hazel..what do you use the flowering part of the plant for?
Flowers can be used for same thing , just not as potent. I've used the flowers ( a lot of work) . commercial production uses the bark and wood .
I can not find the video where you make vodka?
I took the video down.
Forgive us.
Smart man
Would you link to the video you me tion at the end about distilling? I cant find it in your playlist anywhere.

I don't see the other video? Just the one where you show what it looks like but not how you harvested it?

Just sent a link. It is in the playlists under shrubs

The shrub has several shoots around the adult . these are pruned off . the host plant is not killed .
Yes this other video does not show how to harvest, is there a third video somewhere that I'm missing?
