This guy is the way I wish all car collectors would be. Happy to share his habit with the world. And not just let them see, but experience and explore. Love it!
How it should be, I've had random car tuners driving by me come over to my house to see the even cooler car I have. It was fun for both of us, wierded them out, which is odd, being into cars it should be the norm.
Good morning Tom, Nancy & I just saw the video that you released about our Matchbox Motors collection of cars. OMG!!!!! What a fantastic job you did on featuring this collection. We are so grateful and so proud of the way that you portrayed both of us and the collection. You are amazing at this! We have had a significant number of features done on our car collection but this is by far the best video ever to cover our cars and our passion. Thank you so much! You really captured, not only the diversity of the collection, but the passion and obsession that is necessary in order to accumulate and share these incredible cars. Thank you also for including Nancy in the video as she is a huge part of what we have created here. We really feared that your viewers may not be so interested in these unusual cars because they are not conventional or familiar to many, and because they are running and driving, even though they came to us as true Barn Finds. However, the comments would seem to suggest that they really enjoyed the video and that they appreciate what we have accomplished with this collection. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for creating this wonderful video of our Matchbox Motors collection of cars. Let’s do the motorcycles next!!!!!
Charles , Good evening from Japan.Wanted to say ,what a fantastic collection of amazing cars. I grew up working on cars and racing on the weekends. Started with 1970 ford maverick, followed by 1971 Oldsmobile cutlass. Graduated High School in 1999 and joined the Navy. Recently retired from active duty and now I’m looking forward to building a small shop and fixing old cars up. Best of luck to You ,Nancy and your family. Thanks for Sharing. V/r James Durrance
Why not an additional 3 episodes for this incomparable collection? I would be riveted to each and every moment for as long as you want to string us along! I vote we return to this mass to get more incredible insight from Charles. That breakdown of the Mercer and the quirky maintenance on the starter is pure gold! Get us back there Tom, or give us the address, so we can descend on this collection and not leave until our needs are satiated. This was absolutely gripping!
@@moneymarty1 I've got some videos of me getting to play with his stuff. Now that I know next time I go I'll be more prepared to film properly than what I got.
The collection is INCREDIBLE. The owner is even more INCREDIBLE. There is probably no better shepherd of cool and unusual vehicles than this guy and it's a blessing to have the opportunity to party with him for 35 minutes. Thank you sir. You are doing the lords matchbox collections work.
I was privileged to meet Charles over 25 years ago when my wife and I decided to follow a series of little car-shaped signs which led us to our first Gould's Microcar Weekend event, then in Brookline MA. We both fell in love with Charles and Nancy and their girls (who were in elementary school then) and all the funny little cars. Charles is one of those people who gives you his full attention when talking with you, and gives generously of his voluminous knowledge. The annual gatherings were real lovefests for microcars and just about any unusual vehicle. The governing principle was "these cars are meant to be used: let's drive them." No trailer queens here (although some arrived that way, like the beautiful one-owner Messerschmitt from Canada, or the derelict Trabant towed by a Ford Fiesta from Maryland and then assiduously wrenched all weekend). Every event included a public car show at the Lars Anderson Museum in Brookline, where rides were given around the grounds to long lines of waiting kids and parents, and a mass drive up Mt Wachusett (about 100 miles round trip and 2500 feet up). SO MUCH FUN!!😁
Tom I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your videos. I’m an old car guy who has lived to see many of the cars that you showcase driving the streets in n their own time as new cars. And your site really brings back the memories. And a BIG thanks to Charles for allowing us to experience his collection from a distance through your site.
What an amazing collection. I hope his children can preserve these for years to come. There is a ton of history in these. Many are obscure, but have incredible history. We really have come a long way. I loved this video.
This is one the best episodes I've seen. Charles and his family have to be praised for putting so much love into this collection of amazing cars that otherwise wouldn't receive the love and care they deserve. I'd feel honored to have the opportunity to take care of such amazing pieces of history.
WOW - a real passionate and serious collector of some incredibly intriguing vehicles. I’m sure driving a couple of those rare cars was very rewarding. Lucky You!
Charles! You are a genius. You know all your very varied cars like children. Brilliant knowledge, collection, and your personality matches both. Thank you.
This gentleman/family and their collection is a *world* different from a guy who just hoards cars and lets them all rot whilst never letting any go. These cars get attention, get worked on and are shared with the public - it's a *breathing* collection. "Unloved"? They might have been back in their day, but I'd daresay that's not the case now. Great episode! - Ed on the Ridge
Its amazing to see that his collection is NOT rotting away in the wilderness 😅 He really cares about the cars, his collection is crazy. Greetings from Germany.
Charles is such a beautiful human…. When you hear that comment “the people are the best part” it’s guys like him that make it true…. Great time for our country to see someone like Charles help restore our faith in people Thanks for sharing his story and collection, truly special
Tom - you two could be brothers! You both are car crazy and just wonderfully nice and love to talk cars. Wonderful episode. One of the best… and that says a lot.
The British Invacar were a life saver for many WW2 vets who had lost limbs as well as disabled civilians. They were commonplace on the UK roads in the 70's when I was a kid.
They are a really unusual vehicle, with a proprietary two cylinder, horizontally opposed, air cooled 600cc engine sourced from Steyr Puch, which was overpowered for this car with such a high center of gravity. They often overturned on turns causing more injuries to the driver. The owner of this one loved her AC Invacar so much that she had it certified by DOT for import into the states, which saved it from the crusher as most were destroyed in the UK.

@@charlesgould9701 My recollection is that they were government owned and leased to the end users where they could use part of their pension or disability allowance to pay for it. We still have a similar motability scheme today, but these are "normal" cars that have been adapted. Knowing the British government, the contract for the engines would have gone out to the cheapest tender! They still pop up every now and again at classic car shows here in the UK Great collection BTW👍
my favorite collection are the ones you can sit on , lean against, take out any day of the week type cars, and this guys got exactly that. not my kind of cars, but i love the passion and the knowledge people have for their stuff
I've been watching these videos for some years now, and I believe this is my favorite episode. I am just so tired of seeing "hoarders" who buy vehicles for specious reasons and then just let them rot to dust over many years. This is a true "collection" and what a wonderful bunch of gems.
It's always a treat to see an Aussie connection in your episodes Tom 🇦🇺. The Bill Buckle story was great, and the little Austin A30 was very neat. It was all amazing, an eclectic nirvana for sure. The owners have every right to be proud of the preservation they have achieved, and for bringing their daughters up in that world. I've always been a sucker for a girl riding a motorcycle ❤.
OMG!!!! A Gogomobil? I'm 43, and my Dad lived from 1930 to 2014, and as a kid, told me about his first brand new car; all I can remember is "Isard" and "Gogomobil"... He told me it was a cheap, slow and scary car with a motorcycle engine, and necessited a couple of miles of clear road to pass a semi-truck! He then sold it to his brother-in-law that made a trailer out of it, and then bought a brand new gold with black roof, 1968 Dodge Charger with a 318, that was his favorite car of all time; he couldn't stop telling me about it!!!
What a great episode! A true enthusiast in our hobby. I could spend a month “chatting” with Charles. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful collection. I would love to intern with you, as a self described DYI guy, I would sweep or change oil for free just to be around these amazing cars….

Great episode - among the many cars I've owned were two NSU's, a Renault Dauphine, several Corvairs and a bunch of Land Rovers. Back in the seventies friends of mine were all trying to see who could buy the weirder cars so many of these are familiar to us - brings back lots of memories.
What an incredible collection, I'm in the UK and frequent lots of shows and really enjoy all cars, from supercars to unloved everyday classics like the 2CV. Some really outstanding cars here, I adore that Tatra. What an incredible rare and interesting car. Very rarely see those. Also, I too enjoy Saabs, I currently have a 1972 Saab 95 V4.

I can't believe I saw cars for the first time ever. I thought I had seen it all. He needs to open a museum! When I was 16 I drove around a Morris Minor that belonged to the Englishman that owned the Texaco station. Must have been built in the 60's. No power but fun as all heck. I can see that he has the same kinds of cars.
When I was 16, late 60's I tried to talk my Dad into buying me a Morris Minor with MG engine for $50.00 it needed a clutch... he quickly said nope. He bought me a 65' Galaxy 500 ▪︎ 390 ▪︎ smashed quarter panel $65.00 tht thing almost killed me several times. I kept wearing out the right rear tire....
Tom (and the team), this is an awesome episode of BFH. Question, Is it possible to put together a long form version of your adventures? I could seriously sit and watch another 3 - 4 hours of Charlies and Nancy’s life and listen to stories about their epic collection! Thanks again for your content, just superb. Tony from New Zealand
EXCELLENT EPISODE. ! You could do at least six more episodes on his collection. One of which could concentrate on the three wheelers. Yes, biased towards those. Like the Velorex and messerschmitts.
You got that right! Nancy has been an incredible partner and hoarding enabler, encouraging me to drag home each new barn find and to revive them all along the way. She also drives all of the cars, rides the motorcycles, and she actually helps work on the cars and bikes as well as organizing all of the parts and tools and library of workshop manuals! My two daughters are also very involved as is my son in law. I am truly blessed!
Just an amazing collection of beautiful cars! Thank you for showing that beaaaautiful Saab. If you ever happen to come upon an early 99, 1969-70, feature it, it is the most stylish 99 out of all the generations. Please, yes, make that book happen, Tom! Thank You!

I'm an American Hot Rodder, Been living in Germany for 50 of my 73 years. I'm not usually one to try to correct anybodies information . The Cast name Ornament little red Roadster and the little Van may look Like GaGamobile but the name is actually GOGOMOBILE! please check up on this! happy Hunting. Gil
Tom this episode was wonderful !!!!!!! Charles & Nancy are obviously excellent people. And this should've been multiple episodes, totally at least 3 hours long. P.S. I've always wanted a Messerschmit Tiger & as for Charles collection, I'd like to have that Olds Toronado. A man came to the cemetary when we buried my Dad in Dec. 1984 & he drove an Olds just like Charles car, and we never found out who he was... but he knew my Dad & of course, that man is now long gone as well.

I had a chance to buy a Messerschmitt back in Canada. Back in the days of the AutoTrader. It was in New Brunswick...love those little cars..
Just the most entertaining and interesting 35 minutes. The more you learn about cars the more you realise that there is so much more to learn

The Cast name Ornament little red Roadster and the little Van may look Like GaGamobile but the name is actually GOGOMOBILE! please check up on this! happy Hunting. Gil
Would love to see a series with you and Wayne Carini! 2 proper connoisseurs.
Thank you, love every new episode of Hagerty's
Tom this episode was wonderful !!!!!!! Charles & Nancy are obviously excellent people. And this should've been multiple episodes, totally at least 3 hours long.
P.S. I've always wanted a Messerschmit Tiger & as for Charles collection, I'd like to have that Olds Toronado. A man came to the cemetary when we buried my Dad in Dec. 1984
& he drove an Olds just like Charles car, and we never found out who he was... but he knew my Dad & of course, that man is now long gone as well.
This was one of the best episodes. Love the owners’ humble attitude as well. Best of luck !
Such a cool collection!! Thanks for sharing!
This is more than a car collection. It's a museum.
Amazing collection, man! Equally amazing owners! Great feature!
