I saw an interesting older video interview of a Hamas spokesperson conducted by Al Jazeera a couple years before the war. The interviewer asked the spokesperson that since Gaza received billions of dollars in aid over the years from a variety of countries, why they had used the money to build tunnels instead of bomb shelters for their citizens. The spokesperson went on about how important the tunnels were to protect Hamas, how it provides mobility for the Hamas leadership, etc. The interviewer pressed him several times about the bomb shelters with the spokesperson becoming irritable and evasive until he finally snapped that "the population of Gaza are mostly immigrants so their safety is the responsibility of the UN". This gives you some idea of how much Hamas values the life of it's citizens and the reason they think nothing of using them as shields.
I believe you as that was also reiterated by IDF spokesperson. It would be nice to show links of the video for the world to see.
If you have a link please share it. Aljazeera will never show this video, as they are aligned with Hamas. I never thought Al jazeera can be so biased in reporting. I used to recommend that station.

1) Conflict is always between islam vs other religions
2) Other islamic countries will not accept those affected muslims as their refugees, but they somehow sneak into non-islamic countries. (Russia, whole EU problem with refugees: France, Germany, Spain etc., India divided into 3+ countries, Iran was not an islamic state initially)
