Hi, I like your blouse/shirt what's the brand/label please?
My grandmother made these candies in the depression. She kept the tradition of a handful of nuts in the shell, a couple tangerines, and a LifeSavers book in our stockings.

Yes!!! My grandmother made beautifully painted marzipan fruits and candied orange and grapefruit peel. We always got a quarter and a tangerine in our stockings. During the Depression citrus was very hard to get, so these were a real treat. We still do this in our family. ♥️
I like how she talks. Very confident and experienced

Same! Crisp, polished and to the point👌🏼

Didn't know this, I always felt bad to throw away the peels. You explained so calmly. Subscribed.
I would imagine that the leftover sugar in the pan would have a wonderful citrus flavor that would be WONDERFUL for sweetening tea or something similar too!!!
There will be a bit of syrup which would be great in a lot of things, mocktails, dessert, iced tea etc.
I use the leftover orange syrup in my black tea a lot. Goes well on overnight oats too
Hi... I live in Brazil and started doing this because I missed the typical candied fruit and Chocolate cover orange peel from my Portuguese homeland; here it is difficult to find Candied fruit. I use them most for other fruit cakes, fruit jams or shortbread like cookies. So, because I need to keep them longer or add some flavours, here are some tips that work nice for that (if just consuming them immediately or for covering in chocolate the above is perfect):
1 - If you're not in a hurry, it is best to allow the sugar to penetrate slowly in the fruit substituting the water, because it helps to conserve it better. This is achieved by making 3 to 4, 5-10m boilings alowing to cool and rest at least a couple of hours in between boils. So , for 300-400 grams of peel it usually takes me 2 days (one boil in the morning, another in afternoon). The peels become very translucent and golden in the end.
2 - You can substitute part of the water for lime, lemon or orange sifted juice or both, Citric acid helps conserving and adds more pectin.
3 - I like to add a pinch or ground nutmeg or cinnamon to the sugar sirup if using this in cakes.
4 - Being from a Mediterranean country, I like to add a tsp or tbsp of fruity extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of salt. Olive oil combines exceedingly well with any kinds of nuty or citrus flavours.
I end up with something very similar to a thick 'chutney' of orange peels with a thin film of citrusy and flavourful gelatin in between them, which conserves very well in the fridge.
+Jorge Bizarro Thank you for the tips!
Cakes And More i
Jorge Bizarro Thankyou for your suggestions, I will have to try them I have not made orange slices before, disappointed I through the peel out. I knew there had to be a use for them. did you see they can be a facial scrub also. You can find it on internet also.
Thank you . Thus was very informative.

You can scrape the inner white part of the peels to remove some of the bitterness. Then boil them once for 5 minutes before sugar syrup coating them.🤗
This was a lot of fun to make with my 10 year old son! Thank you so much for the easy straight forward recipe! The oranges cooking filled our kitchen with the most wonderful aroma; one I will always attribute to the fall season and the holidays.❤️ After coating our dried orange peel in the granulated sugar we chopped some of them up into small pieces and added them to a batch of Yogurt Bark. Just 2 cups Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup honey and 1 tsp vanilla extract mixed and spread 1/4 inch thick on a parchment paper lined baking sheet, then sprinkle the top with the chopped candied orange peel, black sesame seeds and mini chocolate chips. Freeze and, once firm, break into pieces and enjoy. It makes a great Halloween treat!

I love her!! She's a great teacher, very detailed and easy to understand!!
We had these on a cruise ship several years ago and they were amazing. I've been on the lookout for instructions to make them ever since. A sincere thanks to you!
I grew up eating candy orange, grapefruit, lemon, and lime peel and this the exact way my mom made them. She made several different types of things to coat them in so we'd have a wide variety to munch on... my favorite was when she made flavored sugar dips in all different colors.. that thin coating with that little crunch made these one of my favorite Christmas candies. ♥️
Thank you so much for easy directions! I am in the process of making mine now. Will let you know how the candied peels turn out 😉
v nice recipe

Good tip. I tend to save up my orange and lemon peels and dry them in the oven. I use them for cooking dishes such as peking ducks.
